    Minnesota Vikings

Draft picks: LSU WR Justin Jefferson (No. 22 overall), TCU CB Jeff Gladney (No. 31 overall), Boise State OT Ezra Cleveland (No. 58), Mississippi State CB Cameron Dantzler (No. 89), South Carolina DE D.J. Wonnum (No. 117), Baylor DT James Lynch (No. 130), Oregon LB Troy Dye (No. 132), Temple CB Harrison Hand (No. 169), Miami WR K.J. Osborn (No. 176), Oregon State OT Blake Brandel (No. 203), Michigan S Josh Metellus (No. 205), Michigan State DE Kenny Willekes (No. 225), Iowa QB Nate Stanley (No. 244), Mississippi State S Brian Cole II (No. 249), Washburn OG Kyle Hinton (No. 253)
    Day 1 grade: A
    Day 2 grade: A-
    Day 3 grade: A+
    Overall grade: A
Draft analysis: GM Rick Spielman knew picking multiple cornerbacks (two on Day 1, one on Day 3) was a must, as was finding a receiver to replace Stefon Diggs and creating more competition on the offensive line. He hit all the notes in Rounds 1-3.

Wonnum was underappreciated at South Carolina, with Javon Kinlaw stealing the spotlight -- but the edge defender is athletic, tough and worthy of an early fourth-round pick. Getting Lynch in the fourth round was a steal -- his character off the field and motor on it will help him stay in the league for a very long time. Dye is a rare guy who led his college team in tackles for four years -- his selection addresses a position of need, as well. Hand, Brandel, Willekes, Hinton and Osborn will provide depth at minimum, but have the potential to have more of an impact. Getting Stanley in the seventh round could pay major dividends down the line. Metellus and Cole are safeties who can play in the box, maybe even at linebacker instead of safety.

Im pleased with what Spielman did this Draft, especially rounds, 1-3... I think he nailed the targets well and actually had targets that made sense and were flat out necessary.

Last Monday, NFL teams were permitted to launch virtual offseason training programs. This Monday, twenty more teams will be doing so.

Per a league source, these teams will launch stay-at-home sessions on April 27: The Cardinals, Ravens, Bengals, Broncos, Lions, Packers, Texans, Jaguars, Raiders, Rams, Dolphins, Vikings, Saints, Jets, Eagles, Steelers, 49ers, Seahawks, Buccaneers, and Titans.

Of those, the Ravens, Dolphins, Eagles, and Buccaneers will have virtual workouts. The other 12 will not.

The Bills, Colts, and Patriots launched virtual training programs with workouts last week. All teams were permitted to commence virtual training on April 20.

The NFL has allowed all teams to conduct a three-week virtual offseason training program. The actual offseason training program has not been canceled, but with all facilities closed due to the fact that most states in which NFL teams do business have stay at home orders, actual offseason programs are unlikely — unless all states with NFL teams open for business before the middle of June.

Plus there will be a lot of cracked computer screens when they try to pass the ball to each other.

Dalvin Cook to participate in Vikes' voluntary program...

Despite awaiting a new contract, Dalvin Cook is going to continue working from home.

The running back plans to participate in the Vikings' voluntary portion of their virtual offseason program, which begins Monday, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported.

Cook is coming off a career year at an ideal time as he enters the fourth and final year of his rookie contract. The former second-round pick earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2019 after rushing for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns in 14 games as part of a Vikings offense that thrived on keeping the ball on the ground. Cook's two rushing touchdowns and 94 yards helped Minnesota score a postseason upset over the New Orleans Saints on Wild Card Weekend.

Perhaps more importantly, 2019 was Cook's healthiest professional season. He told NFL.com in late January he's "just happy" that he's with the Vikings, who selected Cook after a first-round slide in the 2017 draft and are entering the new decade with plenty of optimism. Instead of discussing possible 2021 free agency back in January, Cook was talking about remembering Minnesota's playoff triumph with the hopes the Vikings can "piggy-back off of it."

His participation in the voluntary period isn't much of a surprise, then, but it should be encouraging for Vikings fans who hope to see No. 33 in their backfield for many more years.

I don’t know how virtual workouts are going to help players actually get a feel for playing with each other on the field. This virtual crap is just for teams to pull a big brother and make sure that the players are lifting and getting cardiovascular exercise in. This season is going to have some garbage looking games at the start. QBs need to get their timing down with WRs. Rookie players are going to have a harder time getting acclimated this season. You guys start could be pretty shaky with all the rookies that they are counting on to contribute. Teams with new coaches are going to really be screwed this season.

I don't know either practice gets you into football shape i also don't know how this virtual workouts for teams in the NFL will work

Rick Spielman on Dalvin Cook: Our philosophy is to reward our own players

Running back Dalvin Cook is heading into the final year of his rookie deal, but he isn’t letting that keep him from working remotely as part of the Vikings’ offseason program.

While he’s not opting out of the voluntary work, Cook does want a contract that keeps him in Minnesota for the long term. During a Wednesday appearance on ESPN Radio, Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman suggested the team feels the same way and gave an idea about the timeline that talks about a pact will progress.

“We’ve always had history in the past of once we got through the draft, a lot of the extensions we’ve done, our philosophy has always been [that] hopefully we’re drafting well enough that we reward our own players,” Spielman said, via Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com. “Dalvin Cook’s a critical part of our offense and not only is he a great football player, but he’s a great human being off the field on how he represents our organization out in the community. We’ll see where that goes. I’m sure we’ll be talking to his representatives here down the road as we get closer. A lot of our stuff has gotten done before we’ve headed into training camp. But we’ll see how everything progresses.”

Christian McCaffrey‘s extension with the Panthers earlier this offseason set a new high for running backs. It should also provide a framework for Cook and other young backs to use as they aim for deals of their own this offseason.
