Minnesota Vikings: As up against the salary cap as the Vikings were at the start of free agency, it's still staggering to see just how much of a toll their roster has taken mostly as a means to clear space. Stefon Diggs (63), Xavier Rhodes (97), Everson Griffen (88), Trae Waynes (53), Mackensie Alexander (10), Linval Joseph (134), Andrew Sendejo (60), Josh Kline (13) -- that's 518 Vikings starts between them. The fallout leaves the team with an abundance of needs in the upcoming draft; fortunately, Minnesota has an abundance of draft capital with 12 total picks, including two late in Round 1 (Nos. 22 and 25). The most pressing concerns are along the offensive line (Kline was a starting guard), cornerback (although the group struggled last season, replacing three CBs at once is a tall order) and defensive end. And, of course, with Diggs gone and seemingly everyone touting the 2020 class as the year of the wideout, the Vikings now have a need at that spot, as well.

It is a mess and Spielman needs to own up to it, maybe have a killer draft or get a FA or two.

I don’t really understand what the Vikings are doing. The Steelers were in cap hell too. They restructured a bunch of contracts cut a couple of overpaid backups and we our now on PFFs list of top five contenders going into this upcoming season.

The Steelers always seem to find pretty good players, the Vikings have to have a good draft nobody knows what the hell is going on with the Vikings

I saw highlights of Isaiah Wright Temple on YouTube he looked more rb than wr,then i saw Laviska Shenault Jr Colorado he looked pretty good, with him and Irv Smith Kyle Rudolph Dalvin Cook it would take the pressure off of Thielen no disrespect here can't see him as a no.1 wr

The point I was talking about was that after the players approved the CBA the Vikings should have moved money around in restructuring and kept more of their players

Well the Vikings FO and Tricky Ricky are stuck it never changes its been the same old same old for years Zimmer can't win big games he's always getting out coached hey is a sad situation ( sigh )

Kirk Cousin said the Diggs trade was a win win situation for both teams why would he say anything your not all that, you will miss Diggs IMO

I think Diggs is good, but he was turning into a headcase and becoming a distraction on the team and on the sidelines during the football games. Im just about satisfied he's gone. I think the Vikings can replace him, either in FA or Draft.

Kirk Cousins on the other-hand has said some head-scratching things as of late and needs to just shut-up and play football. He needs to show me and Vikings Nation that he is worth the money... I don't want talk, I want positive results. In my opinion, he has not earned the right to shoot off his mouth just yet.

What a mess in Minnesota, for sure. This should have seen this coming, but they let it go and now are in deep shit. Half the team left and that's not going to bode well as the guys who were let go or opted out are a pretty talented group and there's just too many to replace. The Vikings are going to need GB, Chicago and Detroit to play like crap and maybe that extra Playoff spot might help too, but im not excited this season at all and that's highly unusual and rare.

But, I got their backs no matter what and am not jumping off the purple bandwagon at all, lol. Go Vikings ! :vik:

Danielle Hunter getting used to new-look Vikings defense

Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter‘s biggest challenge might not be switching sides, it might be learning the names of all his new teammates.

The departure of veteran defensive players from Minnesota has been extreme, leaving Hunter to adapt to an extreme makeover around him.

“It’s a business,” Hunter said, via Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com. “It would be very unrealistic if you were able to keep a team the same way for X amount of years, but it’s a business. Guys have got to do what’s best for them, and sometimes the team has to do what’s best for them, and it’s just a part of life. We can only deal with the situation we have now, and that’s to make progress and change.”

While there were some different situations involved (age, salary cap, injuries), the net result is that eight guys Hunter were used to playing with are gone — Linval Joseph, Everson Griffen, Stephen Weatherly, Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, Mackensie Alexander, Jayron Kearse, and Andrew Sendejo.

That’s an incredible amount of turnover for a good defense, but the 25-year-old Hunter knows he has to become a leader know after playing next to Griffen and Joseph for the last three years.

“I learned a lot from [Griffen and Joseph] and I’ll definitely pass along what I’ve learned from them to the other guys in the group and the new guys that are coming in,” Hunter said. “I definitely see myself as turning into the leadership role of passing on the knowledge of what I’ve learned and teaching the younger guys that we get or the people in the future that we get the roots and the fundamentals of becoming a good defensive end or defensive lineman.”

Hunter became the youngest player in league history to reach the 50-sack mark last year, and a lot of that had to do with the cast around him putting him in good positions. It’ll be harder now, putting more pressure on him — beginning with needing nametags in a shortened offseason.

Let the browns keep him. Diggs was a lot more of a team player
