Vikings Terence Newman starts new NFL career as Nickel/Defensive Backs Coach... After 15 seasons in the NFL, Terence Newman will now see the field from a different perspective as the Nickel/Defensive Backs Coach for the Minnesota Vikings Newman announced over the weekend that he would be retiring effective immediately but would remain in Minnesota as a coach. Newman started playing in the NFL in 2003 when he was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. He then moved from the Cowboys to the Cincinnati Bengals, and then to Minnesota. Most of Newman’s 15 seasons have been spent with head coach Mike Zimmer. Newman spoke today and said it’ll be a strange transition from player to coach, but being able to relate to and working with the team will make it easy, “I guess I kinda felt like, you know, helping out some of the younger guys is a form of coaching I guess. And I think everybody just assumed I would do it, so I would like to give a shot and see how I can help impact some young guys and teach them what I know.” And after 15 seasons, Newman knows a lot. He has played 221 games and has 205 starts, 42 career interceptions (with three of those he returned for a touchdown), a fumble recovery, and 2.0 career sacks. While he still feels his body is in fairly good shape, he knew it was time to walk away and give the younger players a shot at starting. ‘’Some of the younger talent, obviously, you have to either say, ‘I’ll be selfish,’ and maybe take the roster spot or get somebody else an opportunity to live their dream. So, it was pretty easy.” But it wasn’t just his selflessness that drove Newman to decided to move to coaching. “‘At some point, you have to be true to yourself and say, ‘Hey, do I want to keep going forward, have a chance to maybe tear up your back or neck or whatever?” His decision to move to coaching may have not been an easy one but Newman is happy to still be working on the sidelines, “Everybody’s asking me if I’m OK and all this. I’m good. I’m still in football. I still have an opportunity to chase a Super Bowl ring.” As his new journey starts he is unsure of how he’ll feel the when the Vikings play the San Francisco 49ers but he knows he knows he is going to make the best of it. “I mean, I don’t know what the feeling I’ll have or if I’ll have a rush of emotions, or be nervous as hell because I can’t do anything on the field depending on how the game is going or whatevr, That’ll be one I just let happen and just go with it.” (daily norseman)
Terence Newman should do just fine he has a lot experience to pass down,to help the young players to be all they can be
What's with the smoke and mirrors Danny Isidora playing center?,doesn't make any sense to me that's why you made a trade for Brett Jones to be the center, but hey what do I know I'm just a fan...GO VIKINGS
Minnesota Vikings 2018 Preview with Will https://live4sportnetwork.com/minnesota-vikings-2018-preview-with-will/
I read the preview...i agree the Vikings have to have home field all though the playoffs,if they stay healthy I see a very good year and a SB win Brian Robison hopes he he retires can't see him in another color but purple,is Mackensie Alexander trade bait? cause I think Holton Hill can take his place IMO
Vikings sign Bryan Witzmann, place Aviante Collins on IR The Vikings made a change to their offensive line group on Monday. Tackle Aviante Collins is headed to injured reserve after missing the season opener due to an elbow injury. Guard Bryan Witzmann will take his place on the 53-man roster. Witzmann was most recently with the Chiefs and made their initial 53-man roster out of camp before being waived when the team acquired center Austin Reiter. He made 13 starts for them last season and appeared in 27 games over the last two years. Collins landed with the Vikings after going undrafted in 2017. He played in three games last season. Witzmann will join Danny Isidora and second-round pick Brian O'Neill as depth options up front in Minnesota. Brett Jones will likely join them once Pat Elflein is given the green light to return to game action. (PFT)
Laquon Treadwell vows to improve... It’s a make-or-break season for Vikings receiver Laquon Treadwell. Through one week, the needle continues to point to broken. But Treadwell isn’t giving up after a lackluster debut, which included a drive-killing drop and only two catches for 18 yards. “I could have done better,” Treadwell said, via Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “I left a lot of plays on the field. The two catches I left on the field. I left some blocks on the field. I could have done a lot of things better.” The drop came on a play that Treadwell said he hadn’t practiced much. But he knows that’s not an excuse (even if it sounds like one). “First game,” Treadwell said. “It’s something you learn from.” Treadwell took 38 snaps in Week One, 54 percent of the total offensive plays. That makes him the clear-cut No. 3 receiver, a title he won’t hold for long if he keeps dropping passes. (PFT)
The Packers aren’t the only team in Sunday’s looming NFC North showdown with injury questions. For the Vikings, defensive end Everson Griffen emerged on Thursday’s injury report with a toe problem. Griffen was officially limited in Thursday’s practice. Because he didn’t appear on Wednesday’s injury report this apparently is a new injury. Also limited in practice was center Pat Elflein (ankle, shoulder). Fully participating in practice were cornerback Trae Waynes (knee), cornerback Mackensie Alexander (ankle), and running back Roc Thomas (ankle). (PFT)
Mike Zimmer on Daniel Carlson: Guys are supposed to do their jobs... The Vikings drew even with the Packers on a late Kirk Cousins touchdown pass and two-point conversion, survived a Mason Crosby field goal attempt at the end of regulation and then had two chances to add points to their total in overtime. Daniel Carlson missed both field goal attempts, however, and the Vikings had to settle for a 29-29 tie at Lambeau Field. Carlson also missed another field goal earlier in the game and head coach Mike Zimmer was asked about not trying to get the ball into the end zone before Carlson’s final miss. Zimmer said the decision on the sideline was to put the ball in the middle of the field because Carlson “drills them” in practice. Zimmer added that “guys are supposed to do their jobs” and was asked if he and General Manager Rick Spielman will look for someone else to do what Carlson failed to do on Sunday. “I don’t know,” Zimmer said, via the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “It’s too early. Rick and I have barely talked yet. Rick and I will sit down and we’ll talk about it.” Carlson, who was drafted in the fifth round, said he wanted to look at film to see what he did wrong, but did say the “last one was probably more just something with confidence after missing twice earlier.” He added that he wants to prove his ability to his teammates over the rest of the season, but it sounds like it’s no sure thing that he’ll get that chance. I think he's toast it's like he's can't handle it,the Blair Walsh ghost is strong here in Vikings nation, can't count on him what's going on in his head time for the Vikings to find a new kicker
I think he's gone and soon. He went o-fer 3 in a big game. Come playoff time that's not a doable thing. There's got to be someone out there that can kick a damn football.
