mine hasn’t changed… Stefanski as play caller. he called 16 running plays against the worst rush defense in the league, despite Ford averaging over 7 ypc.
16 rushing plays using actual RBs.. that’s what their job is… even if you want to count the QB, WR and TE that had running attempts, ( I say attempts because except for DTR, the other 3 players netted -1 yard) they still had 24 to 42 pass plays… yes, that’s with a 5th round rookie backup QB at the helm… GREAT game plan. How can you defend that?
I wasn't defending anything. I simply took exception to someone cherry picking stats to make a point. If Stefanski deserves some heat, it's for trying to get too cute with the gimmick plays. Two of them resulted in turnovers (on running plays, BTW). Of greater concern to me was the failure of the defense to execute whatever it was that Schwartz dialed up. It almost looked like Joe woods was calling the shots.
I watched the game, as did all of you... How many of the 3 and longs were due to passing on 1st and 2nd down? Look, even adding in the QB scramble runs and the 2 ridiculous trick plays, they ran the ball 24 times total... You want to talk about cherry picking, how about taking out 25 of the 42 pass plays to "try" to make a point. By the way, 4 of the Browns run plays were in the same 2 minute drill that the author is adjusting above, shouldn't we remove those plays too, if you are adjusting the pass plays? We can argue, or debate, or what ever you want to call what we do on here. Stefanski has too many other duties to call a good offensive game. He has proven it time and again. When you have a "new" left tackle who is getting destroyed play after play after play, you need to get that guy some help. He ignored it the entire game, which led to a safety, turnovers, sacks and incomplete passes due to unnecessary pressure in under 2 seconds. If they are getting to the 2.5-3.0 second range, then damn, the QB needs to understand the pressure and learn to get rid of the ball faster. Yesterday, Christian looked like an amateur player getting owned at the line of scrimmage. He does not belong on the field and Stefanski's play calling did nothing to alleviate those issues. Again, I don't have a problem with Stefanski, I actually like him and want him to remain the HC. I just want him to give up play calling, it's hurting the team. From this I would take it you want Schwartz to take the blame in Denver, not as far as "firing" him, but taking the blame... 2 of the first 3 drives were horrible, I admit...They were running at will. I don't know when Myles shoulder popped, but he seemed pretty ineffective for the majority of the game. After the 1st Quarter and two bad defensive drives to start the game and give them a 14-0 lead, the Broncos offensive drives were: 14 yards - punt -1 yard on 1 play (kneel down) to end the half 6 yards - punt 70 yards, stopped inside 10 held to FG 20 yards - TD -2 yards - punt 42 yards - FG -6 yards - punt -8 yards - punt Russell Wilson has had a resurgence in 2023. On the year, 68.3% completion, 6.9 yards per attempt, 200 yards per game, 2 TDs per game On Sunday, 59.1% completion, 6.1 yards per attempt, 134 yards, 1 TD Denver rushing the ball, average 4.65 yards per carry On Sunday they averaged 4.3 yards per carry So, not earth shattering, but the defense held them below their average. Sorry, but this one is more of an excuse than a statistic or something that can be measured... The time of possession was Broncos 32:48 to Browns 27:12, so the defense was on the field 5.5 minutes longer than the Broncos defense. Normally, you would say, so what.. you have to play the game. However, it does make a significant difference when it takes the human body 3 days to acclimate to Denver's atmosphere and the Browns arrived there on Saturday, giving them just about 24 hours to acclimate. Denver really does have home field advantage over the other 31 teams in the league... He obviously made adjustments and the defense improved as the game went on... What do you want him to do differently?
Let's take it a step further... On the Browns first two possessions, Stefanski called a pass play on the first 6 plays. first drive: Scramble pass pass punt second drive: pass pass pass run pass direct snap to Harrison, fumble third drive: Hunt 3 yard run pass pass punt forth drive: incomplete pass run for first down incomplete pass complete pass for 9 yards run for first down scramble for 9 yards run for first down DTR fumble, Browns recovered incomplete pass incomplete pass FG So on the Browns first 4 drives, he called 16 pass plays and 6 run plays.. The first 4 drives were not obvious passing situations... THIS PLAY CALLING led to obvious passing situations.
Yes a direct snap, to a TE of all things... and a double end around reverse, which is a common "gimmick" play in this league. It was actually executed perfectly, except his third string RB who has only taken 88 snaps in 2023 let the ball hit him in the hands and never had possession of the ball. The TE direct snap should be held against Stefanski, but the double end around would have worked with the right personnel group. There was a lot of green in front of Pierre Strong and only 1 defender on that side. The odds were in our favor for a positive play.. the personnel group, however, is another Stefanski call....
I don't have the time or the inclination to get into another pissing contest with you. But . . . Isn't it the job of every backup player in the NFL to be ready to perform at any given moment? And do you really think that Strong hadn't run that play in countless practices with a whole Quadri of coaches (including Stefanski) evaluating how he executed that play? Do you really think Stefanski put Strong in on that play call if Strong didn't (or couldn't) execute it? I'm out.
I don’t know what to tell you Lym, you drop a stink question to get the ball rolling, then get pissed off when someone answers. What do you want from me, to just ignore your taunts? You should know better…
Happy Friday Lounge Houndz Once again we have a different starting QB. Hopefully Stefanski does a bit more of grinding it out on the ground. Down to the 3rd string LT we'll see how well the O-line can manage Aaron Donald. I've been pleasantly surprised so far this year. Here's hoping for another!
