    The Cleveland Browns have made the following roster moves:

    Waived (2):

    QB Kellen Mond

    DE Charles Wiley

    With Dobbs and Mond gone, who’s the #3 emergency QB?

    Looks like Mond is being pulled off waivers and placed back on the roster now that Dobbs has been traded.

    I saw Cards 4th, was it their 5th?

    It was their 5th round pick.

    Edit : The Browns will get the 2024 fifth-round selection Arizona had received from the Philadelphia Eagles in their tampering settlement; Cleveland also will send a 2024 seventh-rounder to the Cardinals.

    From Terry Pluto over at cleveland.com

    1. The Browns were not shopping Dobbs. They were set to open the season with him as their backup QB. They planned to keep three QBs on the 53-man roster: Deshaun Watson, Dorian-Thompson-Robinson (DTR) and Dobbs.
    2. Arizona called Cleveland late in the morning. Cardinals starter Kyler Murray is recovering from ACL knee surgery. They tentatively had Colt McCoy as the starter, with rookie Clayton Tune pushing the former Brown for playing time. Tune is a fifth-round pick.
    3. The Cardinals didn’t like any of their options. Hard to believe for veteran Browns fans, but McCoy will turn 37 on Sept. 5. The call for Dobbs shows they aren’t thrilled with either option. The media in Arizona doesn’t seem to want McCoy to start.
    4. Former Browns QB coach Drew Petzing is now Arizona’s offensive coordinator. He liked Dobbs last year. For a fifth-round pick, why not bring in Dobbs and let him battle McCoy and Tune?
    5. I hear the Cardinals believe Dobbs could emerge as the starter. Maybe not as the season opens, but soon if the others struggle.
    6. Dobbs counts $2 million on the salary cap. Not a big problem, but the Browns are shedding 2023 salary cap room by reworking contracts. Not sure if it’s to leave options open for a move this year, or to help next season’s salary cap. DTR counts $835,000 on the cap.
    7. The Browns believe DTR clearly out-played Dobbs. They believe he’s a better all-around QB. He has blown away the coaches with his maturity, ability to grasp different offenses and poise on the field. He doesn’t look like a fifth-round rookie.
    8. Teams had been calling the Browns for DTR. No way they are trading him. Trading Dobbs allows DTR to work full time with the second team and gain more experience in practice.
    9. They are OK with Kellen Mond as the No. 3 QB.
    10. They have been interested in adding draft picks since the Watson trade with Houston last year. A fifth-round pick is nice to have, either to select a player or use in a trade.

    Out of all of that, how in the hell did Colt McCoy last in the NFL until the age of 37? He wasn't terrible but he wasn't good either. And backup QB's are a dime a dozen and can be signed off the scrap heap on a whim. Is he just a good teacher for other new QB's and possibly a future position coach? Anybody got any insight on him?

    Well, that didn't take long.

    The oft-injured Jakeem Grant went down on his 1st kick return for the Browns.

    Not to be un-done, Jordon Wilkens punches his ticket for a trip to visit the Turk on Tuesday (or sooner).

    In all fairness, the handoff from Watson wasn't all that great. Actually, it sucked.

    Now, Cade York goes down with a right foot injury.

    And . . . Wilkens gets a do over. At least this time, he recovered his own fumble.

    Well, despite the early fumble and a missed PAT attempt , the starters looked fairly efficient.

    Cade York worries me. Just needs to get out his own head. Hope he can get over this mental block quickly.

    We have much bigger problems than Cade York. The Chief's future grocery baggers are much better than our grocery baggers

    @Lyman

    I keep looking at your roster picks. I’ve been impressed with Diabate and think he could deserve a roster spot but I can’t really find a spot for him. I don’t think I’d do anything differently than what you have on defense. We’ve got some good talent and it’s finally nice to see some tougher choices when it comes to cut down day.

    By the way, when is the 53 man roster due? Is it Tuesday?

    { I think }

    I'm going to take a final look at it over the rest of the weekend. There might be some changes, there might not.
