@IrishDawg42 Don’t leave man. We’ve hit a large bump in the road for Browns fans but we’ll get through it no matter who the QB is. We’ve put up with a huge pile of shit since 1999. What’s one more divisive subject. Once the season starts we’ll be talking performance and not give a damn about anything but wins and losses. We’ve all been arguing for decades about what’s best for the team and we’ve all disagreed a whole lot. This may be more divisive in nature but in the end we all want a trophy. Be patient my friend and don’t take every typo heart so much.
Seemed like we were talking civilly, until that. Pretty dramatic, but I don't see the fan base being split in half at all...It's just not true. Every Browns fan I know is still a Browns fan.
You guys would be a good team with Garoppolo, he’s a really good QB. I don’t know how you could recoup the draft picks from the Texans. I really don’t think you could recoup the bonus money from Watson either. Your owner needs to be suspended so someone with half of a brain can make decisions. I could see a judge telling Jimmy that you knew that Watson had 24 lawsuits before you traded for him and signed him to that ridiculous contract. The Browns might have to stay with Watson just because they jumped off the bridge with him. I couldn’t possibly see Watson winning any lawsuit against the NFL . The CBA has a agreement in it cover this situation. No judge can rule against the league when the players gladly signed it.
@TopDawg @IrishDawg42 Thought i would chime in, FWIW. I like the both of you and every Browns poster on this site. I hope you were just a bit pissed and will let this go. I dont want either of you to leave, period. Stay... be yourself, fight , argue if necessary, but dont go. I really like all of your input and ideas. This thread is interesting/entertaining and wont be the same if the chain gets broken and has missing links. Please reconsider and stick it out. Thats my 2 cents.
All in-fighting and bickering aside, does anyone know what the time frame is for this appeal by the NFL and when do we expect a ruling from Goodell? And I'm assuming as soon as he starts to open his mouth that the NFLPA will officially file their lawsuit that may take who knows how long to reach an end. Didn't Tom Brady's suit over Deflategate take almost year? Watson could play this whole year if that's the case.
I certainly dont have the answers, but this might help a little... from PFT. Although both Tom Brady and Ezekiel Elliott lost their legal wars against the NFL, both secured important initial victories. They were permitted to keep playing while the lawsuits challenging their suspensions proceeded. This experience has caused many to assume that, if the NFL Players Association files a lawsuit on behalf of Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson after (as expected) the NFL dramatically increases the six-game suspension imposed on Watson by Judge Sue L. Robinson, Watson will be available for the regular-season opener at Carolina, and all other games until his case is resolved. That’s unlikely to happen here, for two reasons. First, unless the NFLPA files by Thursday an appeal of the six-game suspension, the six games become a given. The question becomes whether Watson will be able to play as of Week Seven, at Baltimore. Neither the Brady nor Elliott cases included the wrinkle that Watson presents, with the player not fighting an existing suspension, but objecting to something longer than that. Second, a court order allowing a player to play while litigation proceeds is not easy to get. The judge looks at various factors, including the likelihood that the player will prevail on the merits of his case. If the NFL files the first lawsuit (more on that in a separate post) in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York before the NFLPA sues in a forum that would be more inclined to be favorable to Watson, the controlling precedent (thanks to the Brady and Watson cases) will bolster the argument that Watson is likely to lose his case. Remember, judges like it when private parties create their own system for resolving disputes. Judges, who aren’t paid by the hour or by the case, prefer not to get involved. The NFL and NFLPA have created a system for imposing and resolving discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy. Barring evidence that the NFL in some significant way deviated from the agreed-to terms, the case really should end with the NFL’s appeal ruling.
Read a pretty good twitter thread on Watson's appeal (if it happens): One thing to consider here. Even if Watson were to win a stay on the suspension until the appeal can be litigated, as Brady did, he will almost certainly lose in the long run. In 2022 his salary is 1 million. That's a very small amount, one they undoubtedly negotiated in preparation for his suspension. In 2023, that salary becomes 46 million. I know he and the NFLPA have already come out and said they will file a lawsuit against the league but that would be a 45 million dollar gamble on what is probably an unwinnable case. I understand why they would make the statement, but I'm not so sure I believe them.
Actually I did read somewhere today, sorry for no source, that Watson would still be on the hook for the 6 games since that was the punishment agreed to by using the arbiter. It also stated that it was highly unlikely that a judge would grant an injunction for that since Watson and the NFLPA stated that they would abide by the arbiter. It just depends now on how much is added on to the 6 games. That part is what they will be suing the NFL for.
Well if this thing were to stretch into a couple seasons it could be tough. Otherwise, the Browns are a pretty young team. A year will go by pretty quickly. On the brightside, if he's gone for the year maybe Sammy comes back??!!
I'm still tryin to figure out where I got uncivilized, or deserved the F.U., but cooler heads will prevail I guess. Granted, I'm pissed off about the entire situation more now than ever. What was the fucking point of appointing Sue Robinson to dole out the discipline, if the commissioner was going to over-rule anything he didn't agree with anyway? Seems like a colossal waste of time. It's like somebody made a deal with the devil back in 1995, and Browns fans have suffered mercilessly ever since. What a shitshow this has become. Browns should be on the phone with the 49ers right now. It doesn't look like there will be any football being played by Watson anytime soon, and this roster is way too good to call this a washout season.
