Also.. You state you can't put Ward above those 5 players.. You don't have to, you just have to ask yourself if he is comparable talent wise? If you are honest with yourself, you will come to realize he is in the conversation. When you make a list of ten to narrow down to five, would Ward be one of those ten? If he is, then he can be argued to be in the top 5 most likely. No one is saying he is the best CB in the league without question, which is what your statement would elude to. I would certainly argue that he is in the same company as your list though, even if YOU would put him somewhere near the outside of that list, he is right there.
I've already posted my #1 Browns tandem, but I agree with @IrishDawg42, filling out 2 through 5 is harder to do. So, without further adieu, here's the rest . . . 1. OG - Bitonio & Teller. Snap counts not withstanding - BOTH were named to the All-Pro squad in 2021 (Bitonio,1st team, Teller, 2nd team).2. CB - Ward & Newsome. {See Irishdawg's post} Keep in mind most offenses use a 3WR set more often than not which means you better have a good Trio of CB's and Greedy Williams (when healthy) ain't too shabby.3. RB - Chubb & Hunt. No further narrative needed - but, keep an eye on Jerome Ford. He could quite possibly make Kareem Hunt expendable. 4. DE - Garrett & Clowney. I keep wondering what these two could do if our Interior Defensive line wasn't so mediocre. One only needs to look at the Steelers with Tuitt and Heyward and the effect they have had for T.J. Watt & Highsmith.5. OT - Wills & Conklin. Someone had to be 5th.
In no particular order... Bitonio and Teller - Unquestionably the best Guard tandem in the NFL. Very easy to argue this as not only the Browns best tandem, but perhaps even the best tandem at their respective position in sports. This probably should have been my #1, but.... Chubb and Hunt - The numbers speak for themselves. The beauty of it is how well they get along and co-exist in this system. The Cleveland Browns have had more great duo threat RB's than probably any team, and I'll make that a point in a later post. Chubb and Hunt are the best 1-2 RB punch in football, and rising in Browns history. I comfortably put that duo ahead of Kevin Mack and Ernest Byner, as well as Mike and Greg Pruitt... Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney- Besides the fact that these are two of the most freakish athletes the NFL has ever seen, it is an amazing thing to have them lining up on the same team. Everyone knows they can both get after the quarterback, but I love how good they both play the run. Two #1 overalls on the same defensive line is pretty special. Garrett still ascending and Clowney thriving in the dawg pound like we knew he would. This combo is legit. Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome- Easily the best tandem the Browns have had since the all time NFL best tandem, Hanford "top dawg" Dixon and Frank Minniefield....Ward is arguably the most instinctive and athletic CB in the league. He might put your lights out, or he might jump the route and take it to the house. QB's shy away for a reason...Greg Newsome is just getting started but already well respected throughout the league for his stellar play in his rookie season. Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin- Let's face it, this duo is #5 on everyones list because of Wills. It's time for him to step up and prove worthy of his draft selection. He's great in the commercials with Bake, but we need more. Jed is already among the best OT's when running the ball. He needs to put it all together.... When healthy, Jack Conklin is one of the best RT's in the NFL.
Just for fun and because it's June, I'm going to throw out my (all time) top 5 at any given position throughout the week... Hopefully it spurs some football conversation. Doesn't have to be the statistical best. Looking for the players you enjoyed watching the most... Today we go with my favorite: Cornerback. 1. Lester Hayes 2. Darrell Green 3. Rod Woodson 4. Hanford Dixon 5. Mel Blount honorable mention; Champ Baily, Deion Sanders, Frank Minniefield, Darrelle Revis
Running back 1. Barry Sanders 2. Earl Campbell 3. Walter Payton 4. Tony Dorsett 5. Eric Dickerson Not necessarily the top 5 hall of famers, but damn were they fun to watch!!!
Emmitt Smith wasn’t fun to watch, not asking just stating the facts. He didn’t do anything to make it fun to watch. He just ran through holes that a Mack truck could have cleanly gone through. The oline was something awesome to watch but not him.
Yep. Why does it seem like the RB's we watched in our youth seem more awesome? Earl Campbell and Walter Payton were my favorites growing up. It was an era when RB's were king...I'd have to have Bo Jackson on my list somewhere. He was must see TV.
Larry Ogunjobi is in Pittsburgh looking to get signed. That would be a nice pickup. How come you guys didn’t keep him?
If you want my honest opinion.. I don't think they value DTs enough either in this front office or Joe Woods system. I liked Ogunjobi. I thought he plugged the middle well against the run. They let him go to free agency after his rookie contract and he signed with the Bengals. I didn't follow him last year, not sure why they didn't re-sign him, but honestly, I would love to have him back. I think he would improve our roster if we could... Unfortunately, I think it would be a nice pickup for the Steelers if they sign him... Then all he would need to do is play for the Ravens and he will make the cycle.
The Cleveland Browns announced they have signed LB Dakota Allen. Allen (6-1, 232) is a fourth-year player from Texas Tech. He was selected in the seventh round (251st overall) by the Los Angeles Rams in 2019. Allen served stints on the Rams' (twice) and Oakland Raiders' practice squad in 2019 before signing to the Jacksonville Jaguars' active roster during Week 15 of the 2019 season. Over the course of his career, he has appeared in 32 games, collecting 19 stops with one forced fumble. Last season, he appeared in 14 games with one start with the Jaguars. CLEVELAND BROWNS . com
I thought you guys would want to know that Brissett will have to perform if you want to beat us this season. TJ is licking his chops now.
Hey, whatever makes ya feel more comfortable.... In his defense, Ogunjobi is the only one that touched Chubb on this play.
