You can’t be serious about Mayfield. Your team didn’t want Mayfield let alone anybody else. There’s no way that the Steelers would have ever considered signing him even as a FA.
Well, we know he's seriously better than any QB on the Pittsburgh's roster. But anyway, if Carolina did trade for Mayfield, how great would it be to see Steve Smith's reaction? lol!
Good read. I didn't know Newsome and Winfrey were friends since HS. Greg Newsome II on Browns DT Perrion Winfrey, his longtime buddy: ‘He’s going to be the steal of the draft’

They may have, Gid... just going by the media, which isnt much, the Steelers were a possible spot for Mayfied back in the beginning. Tomlin was open for any FA QB as is any NFL team in need. since then, the fire for him has dwindled.
Report: Deshaun Watson Takes Browns Offense to Bahamas to Build Chemistry, Work Out Well something tells me he can afford it...Good move though IMO. Secured a football field and everything, The biggest change is moving from Baker Mayfield to Watson at quarterback. The new signal-caller faces some challenges taking over a team with a lot of new players, so the Bahamas trip seems like a solution to build some chemistry before their season starts Sept. 11 versus the Carolina Panthers.
I'm wondering how bad Mayfield must have been for the Browns Organization to punish him this badly. If they had any respect for him as a player, they'd have made a move. Now he's going to end up joining a team after they've started camps, and come in well behind the team in aclimating. Leaving him almost no chance to succeed. I don't see the upside for Cleveland in this "fuck him, let him sit", in the hope that someone becomes desperate enough to do what? Take his salary (not going to happen), offer a 3rd or 4th round draft pick (also not going to happen). You'd have to have 2 teams to make anything work, otherwise there's no reason not to wait til you cut him, and pay him anyway. I just don't see the upside. Jimmy G is also out there, so teams aren't stuck for a QB, even if one goes down. All of this drama on the slim chance, some team will become desperate enough to make an offer? Seriously? It feels like spite, or a true lack of seeing what was obviously going to happen. That on top of the probablility that the Browns were probably competing with only themselves to get Watson. Did Andrew and company actually blow this one, by way overpaying, and failing to see the flip side of winning the Watson sweepstakes?
Mayfield isn't being punished by the Browns. He got upgraded. Unless you are elite, that's how it goes in any profession. This is business. Surely the million dollars per week he'll be making throughout the season, regardless whether he plays or not, will soften the blow. Boohoo for Baker. It's called pro sports. Are we in the Cleveland Browns business or the Baker Mayfield business? It's not personal and teams get desperate at the QB position all the time. Baker is a commodity. He would be an improvement for half the teams in this league, including our main rival. We owe him $18M for his services this season. It's makes zero sense to cut him...Worse case scenario, he sits all year and then walks when his contract expires. Then we get awarded a comp pick. I don't think it'll come to that, but it will before we just let him go. It's not the Browns' fault that Mayfield is so unpopular. Mayfield is the spiteful one that thinks he's beyond being upgraded. A big part of the reason he hasn't been traded yet is because he has tarnished his own reputation around the league among the players, GM's and coaches. How many of his teammates have come to bat for him? How many players around the league have taken to social media and claimed they want Baker Mayfield to come to their team? In fact, it's been exactly the opposite. When Baker get's rumored to a team, we are actually seeing players take to social media begging their respective teams to NOT acquire Baker. That speaks volumes. A lot of the problem with Baker is on Baker. He's talented, but so was Jay Cutler, if that makes any sense. The QB market is what it is right now, and granted, this is a strange situation. Look at Matt Ryan. He's been to a SB and won league MVP before. He got dumped for a 3rd rd pick. Carson Wentz has been dumped by two different teams already. Jared Goff has been to a SB, he got dumped for chump change, Jimmy G has been to a SB, yet Niners trying to get rid of him. Did Ryan Tannehill start ranting on Twitter when Tennessee drafted Willis a couple weeks ago? Who does Baker think he is? Do you see any of these guys crying about it on social media with rambling 90 minute pod casts about how they were wronged? No. When Andrew Berry said he wanted an "adult", that's the shit he was talking about. Berry knows what he's doing, and surely anticipated the backlash from his bold move. Patience is the key. We'll find a trade partner eventually. lol. C'mon, you don't really believe that. It was well documented that multiple teams were in the mix and none of them have denied being in it. Heck, the reason that Matt Ryan is a Colt now is a direct result of the interest that the Falcons had in landing Watson.
Andrew Berry's job is to build a roster that we can win a Super Bowl with. It's important to remember, Baker was John Dorsey's pick, not Berry's. AB has no attachment to Mayfield, and my guess would be that he never wanted him in the first place. He clearly doesn't believe we can win a SB with Baker, so he made a move to upgrade at the most important position on the football team. Obviously a ton of baggage comes along with DW, but that is also the only reason that he became available in the first place. QB's of Watson's caliber, in his prime, rarely ever become available. So AB had to weigh the pro's and con's and obviously felt it was worth it. We all know that this league is ALL about the QB. Let's face it, no team has struggled more in trying to find a SB caliber QB than the Browns. Time will tell if this epic move by AB will pay off, but there is no denying that we acquired the most talented QB we've had in the SB era. Once the smoke clears, and DW starts making plays like he does, this team is going to be unstoppable. We already had the best O-line and running game. Now we add a superstar QB and WR combo. The plan makes sense to me.
Browns Rumors: David Njoku Long-Term Contract Extension Offer Exceeds $13M per Year Chubb had highest explosive play percentage among RBs; Hunt, Johnson in the Top 10
So...Dalton Miller from ProFootballNetwork just put out an article today ranking the top 32 QBs in the NFL... Atlanta Falcons were the only team without a name on the list... Top NFL quarterbacks in 2022 The best quarterbacks in the league today are some of the most gifted passers of all time. The rankings also still feature the greatest quarterback of all time, who is still playing at an incredibly high level at 44 years old. 1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs For a season that saw “What is wrong with Patrick Mahomes?” as the title to more than one article before November, he sure didn’t have a bad season in totality. He ranked third in the EPA/CPOE composite. He was also fourth in DVOA and fifth in QBR. Statistically, only a slight bump in his interception rate was a blip on the radar. Then, we get to the physical talent that is Mahomes. The term “sneaky athletic” is a trope often associated with quarterbacks possessing less melanin, but Mahomes’ photograph should be beside the phrase in Webster’s dictionary. He’s a difficult target to nail down once on the move. He’s slippery on his way to the edge, and he’s faster than his 4.8 40-yard dash indicates. His arm talent speaks for itself. He can make any throw from any platform in any situation. What truly sets Mahomes apart from the rest is his vision as a passer. While he probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves for playing within the scope of the scheme, his real party piece is seeing the field while on the hoof. The way he processes through layers of coverage and finds angles to attack downfield is an otherworldly trait. That’s why the Chiefs have ranked in the top three in explosive pass plays every season since 2018. Tyreek Hill’s unique talent certainly helped, and his loss creates a void. It will be interesting to see what happens to the narrative surrounding Mahomes if his production dips without his superstar receiver. 2. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills Josh Allen is the middle schooler who hit puberty before the rest of his peers and just absolutely dominated the culdesac football game. Standing just under 6-foot-5 and weighing close to 240 pounds, the slang term “thicc” is perfect for the Bills passer. He used that frame and his impressive athletic ability to take over the back half of the NFL season for his team. The Bills couldn’t consistently find success rushing, so they used him as a Buffalo. He averaged 6.25 yards per carry on 122 rushes, which trailed Rashaad Penny for the league lead. The scariest part about Allen is that he’s not done progressing as a passer yet. He still has days where things aren’t always clicking. That means he hasn’t yet hit his ceiling, which as Michael Jordan would poetically say, “is the roof.” Could Allen overtake Mahomes on this list of top NFL quarterbacks by the end of 2022? 3. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers When the back-to-back NFL MVP is sitting as the third-best at his position, one could be upset that he’s not at the top. However, he’s a 38-year-old quarterback who just lost arguably the best receiver in the game, with less to fall back on than Mahomes. While he can still freestyle, he doesn’t possess the athleticism of Mahomes anymore, which limits his ability from outside of the pocket. While he’s on the downturn of his career, Mahomes and Allen should theoretically continue to improve as they remain in their athletic prime while seeing the field better by the rep. Rodgers still might be the most naturally accurate passer in the game. His ability to teeter on the fence between conservative and aggressive is unmatched in the league’s history. The two top guys in these QB rankings simply have more physical upside than the grizzled vet. 4. Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” is hogwash. While Tom Brady may not actually need to learn any new tricks, the old dog is still outperforming many of the youngins’ in the league. In fact, nobody has been more productive over the past two seasons when looking at more traditional “counting” numbers like yards and touchdowns. He hasn’t lost any of the velocity in his arm, even as he approaches collecting social security. In fact, he may have as much juice as ever. And with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Russell Gage as his top three options, it’s unlikely he slows down much in what will probably be his final push for a championship. 5. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert is arguably in the same tier athletically as Josh Allen. Their Relative Athletic Scores are incredibly similar. While Herbert isn’t the runner Allen is, he’s a more natural passer, at least comparing how they both left their college teams to the join the professional level. Herbert’s arm is a cheat code. Some of the things he accomplished with his arm in 2021 didn’t seem possible. His touchdown throw against the Giants and his honey hole throw against Dallas were throws arguably nobody else in the league can make. While it was difficult to decide between Herbert and Burrow, Herbert’s analytical profile and athletic upside gave him the advantage in our list of top NFL quarterbacks heading into 2022. 6. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals Joe Burrow is already beginning to hit mythical levels of reputation. The Cincinnati Bengals playoff run and Burrow’s “style” have put some lofty expectations on his future. The team didn’t seem like a Super Bowl contender. They finished 12th in offensive DVOA and 24th on defense. The LSU legend came into the league an already polished product. He had more than enough upside to be a fantastic NFL QB, and his floor was high because of his particular skill set. Burrow produced the highest CPOE in the league last season. He’s an accurate passer who manages the pocket incredibly well. Getting his LSU running mate in Ja’Marr Chase was all the Bengals needed to unlock the offense. 7. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys Dak Prescott’s transformation from what he was in 2018 to now has been incredible to witness. He went from being sacked nearly once every 10 dropbacks (9.6%) in 2018 to 23 times (3.7%) in just one offseason. But he’s also incrementally improved his accuracy by the season. That said, what makes Prescott unique is his mind, leadership, and drive to improve. Between his pre-snap autonomy and post-snap command of the field, few see have better vision. Despite not having the howitzer arm or overly impressive athleticism, Prescott consistently wins from the pocket, attacking tight windows. He flourishes over the middle, attacking the seams and intermediate areas on deep crossing patterns. He sees through layers of coverage and doesn’t get fooled by complexity. 8. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens Lamar Jackson is unique. There is no talent like him in the NFL, and only Michael Vick had similar abilities during his NFL career. However, Jackson is more accurate than Vick ever was, and his rushing ability is right on the same level. And despite being a four-year NFL vet, he’s younger than Burrow. He won an MVP in his age 22 season, making him the youngest ever to win the award. His athleticism has made the Ravens’ rushing attack the most efficient in the league in 2019 and 2020, his two most healthy seasons. Jackson is more accurate than he’s given credit for. He’s had a positive CPOE in every season since 2018, despite consistently lacking high-end receiving help outside of Mark Andrews. 9. Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams Few in the league have the high-end plays that Matthew Stafford can obtain. His arm teeters on legendary status, and his arm talent helped propel the Rams to a Super Bowl victory in just his first season with the team. However, with those highs come nearly inconceivable lows for a player with his natural gifts. It isn’t easy to understand the why in his actions at times. He either has so much arrogance in his arm that it leads him to attempt impossible throws, or he simply gets some ADHD from time to time and loses focus. Those mistakes are the only reasons he remains outside of the top five in this list of the top NFL quarterbacks heading into 2022. Of the “star” quarterbacks, he had the highest turnover-worthy play percentage in 2021, despite leaving a poor situation in Detroit for a Super Bowl roster. 10. Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns We haven’t seen Deshaun Watson play since 2020, but he was arguably one of the five best quarterbacks in the NFL when he was playing. The Texans’ roster was appalling in 2020, and he put together a Herculean effort to keep the team afloat. The allegations of sexual misconduct are infinitely more appalling than that Texans’ roster was, but the Browns felt comfortable trading for him and then giving him $230 million guaranteed. They should compete in the AFC North and in a challenging conference with their roster. What keeps Watson lower on this list of the top NFL quarterbacks in 2022 is the same thing that makes him a special on-field talent. He will consistently hold onto the football to try and make the play, which has led to a high sack total during his career. He’s averaged over 51 sacks in the three seasons he was the primary starter in Houston.

I'm not really arguing the list. Everyone has their opinions on things... My immediate thought goes to the fact that 12 teams are listed with a QB rated lower than Baker Mayfield and Mayfield is available. REGARDLESS of the perception of him... GMs jobs are at stake. I am shocked a team hasn't made a move for him.
Me too. It's become a popular thing around the league to hate on Bake, and that's a shame. I honestly think much has to do with all the commercials, and the simple fact that most people don't think he's was worthy of such a deal. I don't blame him for taking the money, but clearly the NFL's other insurance selling QB's, Rodgers and Mahomes, are a bit more accomplished. To be honest, It almost seems like a racial thing to me at this point. I watch all of the coverage outlets (ESPN,NFL,FOX,NBC etc) and I've never heard a black media member say anything positive about Mayfield. Steve Smith, Marcellus Wiley, Shannon Sharpe, Ryan Clark, Ladanian Tomlinson, Michael Robinson, MJ Acosta-Ruiz - it goes on and on. Nobody likes him at all. Folks speak of Mayfield as if he said something bad about their mothers. I'm not sure why he is despised so much, but I'm guessing it's just the way Baker comes across. Priveledged, self centered, spoiled...
