ALDS Matchups: BAL vs. DET

Discussion in 'Baltimore Orioles' started by Sesshomaru, Oct 1, 2014.

  1. Hehe, well, at least the bird got out of it alive.

  2. I'd love to know what the jawing is between Cruz and Cabrera.

  3. I can hardly believe that we swept the Tigers like that. Unbelievable! By the looks of it, the Royals may also sweep the Angels and meet us in the ALCS. How unlikely was that one in the minds of baseball analysts? If so, Baltimore/KC should be a hell of a series. The Royals are good, real good. Wow, just amazing. Britton made me nervous in the ninth, but Buck completely outmanaged Brad Ausmus and it didn't help that the Tigers bullpen pretty much blew the first two games.

    Looks like Orioles & Royals.

I think the Royals scare me a lot more than the Angels because they are so similar to the O's. Starting pitching is equal. Bullpen is equal. Defense is equal. Sense of being a team is equal. Biggest difference is O's use power and the Royals use speed. Reminds me of the Earl Weaver led O's vs. the Dick Howser led Royals.

  5. Indeed, the Royals are a much better and more complete team than the Angels. I can see Joseph getting more starts just because of his arm, but we better be practicing holding runners and working on the pick off throws leading up to Friday. Gonna be one hell of a series and yes, they definitely scare me more.

  6. Congrats Sess. Good luck the rest of the way

  7. I'm still a little shocked - it just hasn't set in yet that we are going to the ALCS - just wow!

I went to Friday's game, and was able to witness Delmon's base clearing, go ahead double in the 8th - I have NEVER seen that place rockin like that before!!

  8. Anybody notice the lack of enthusiasm at Comerica Park yesterday? It was NOTHING like OPACY!!

I didn't realize the announcers were really going to be that bad. Royals have no offense. If the Os pitch against them like they did to the Tigers I wouldn't be shocked if the Royals averaged less than a run a game.

  10. I think Tigers fans were just shocked that their team was struggling so badly, but I think it was more that the Orioles were that good as opposed to the Tigers being that bad. They just had no bullpen and Ausmus kind of screwed them too with bad decisions and Buck didn't hesitate to capitalize on it.

Yeah, they really were terrible. Cal would have had some things to say about what they were saying and not saying about the O's. It just goes to show that some people still feel that the Orioles success is a fluke and not taken all that seriously.

The Nats are facing elimination today, but once again, it seems the game is only on MLBN. What is up with this crap? I didn't really dislike the Nats until I saw how some of their fans act. They said the Angels were a superior team to the O's and they weren't even better than the Royals. We swept our series and the Nats are choking again. Nats fans don't seem to know baseball all that well. lol

  11. I was thinking the same thing. Not everyone gets that channel right? I even think one game was left off TV on Friday

  12. No, you have to pay extra to get that channel. Game two of the LAD/STL series was also only on MLBN. I don't get it, really. They can't possibly be getting better ratings airing it on a pay channel since fewer people get to see it then.

Edit: Actually, I stand corrected. I had always thought MLBN was a premium channel, but apparently, it's not. I have Comcast and MLBN is channel 738 and the channel works. Huh, learn something new every day. The MLB Extra Innings channels are all premium channels, though.

You'd think a TV station in the home markets of teams involved would be allowed to televise the games because not all households get these stations, either with their own announcers or the same feed as the cable station it is on. I think the NFL allowed this when the Thursday night games were only aired on NFL Network.

  14. Yeah, I don't know why we have to give up our local coverage for inferior coverage on TBS, FS1 and Fox for the World Series. Just about every single announcer on there ends up being horrible. Matt Vasgersian is doing the PBP with John Smoltz I believe on MLBN and they aren't bad. Vasgersian did the announcing for MLB: The Show video games.

Anyway, for those who are wondering about the SF/WAS game, it was a scoreless game through six. In the top of the seventh, Bumgarner threw a ball away down the third base line on a sacrifice bunt and allowed two runs to score. He just allowed another hit to make it 3-0 Nationals going into the bottom of the seventh.

  15. Frustration set in. The fans in my opinion actually believe that their starters have to throw complete games for them to have any chance of winning. Although Price threw a pretty decent game they fully knew that they were done.

  16. i'd be willing to bet the answer is simple - namely, that the networks u just named negotiated for exclusive rights in their contracts with the league.

  17. I may have misunderstood, but I could have sworn that I heard one of the guys on 105.7 the Fan say that MASN would be allowed to carry the ALCS. I really hope so!!

I didn't hear this one, but Ken Wienman was tweeting out another mistake that they had. Apparently there was a close play at first. And two of the announcers (dont know who they were, but they were former players), kept on saying "tie goes to the runner". Wienman kept on tweeting out that there is no such rule, and he was surprised two former players would constantly make that comment. Hell, I think Viviano also tweeted out how wrong they were.

    Its kind embarrassing.

  18. Yeah Lulz, I just hate that the MLB playoffs is hijacked by these stations and does away with the local coverage. Orioles announcers are always unbiased AND knowledgeable of the other teams; always. The coverage is just so horrible come playoff time. Even the former players that do the commentating don't know what's going on half the time. It's sad.

Skeet, I couldn't find anything about MASN carrying the ALCS, but I hope it's true too. It is embarrassing with the announcers TBS and FS1 has.
