Probably a good thing I didn't trade down. Those 2 were on my short list although I probably don't go Booker because of scheme fit with the new coaches. Green is a beast but there is those red flags. Eagles probably have him off their board but this wasn't for them. I didn't want to go guard this soon unless it was for someone like Banks but on the trade down he was on the table.
TRADE! Dallas Cowboys and the Tennessee Titans have just completed a mega, blockbuster trade! Dallas Cowboys are sending round 6 pick 211 for QB Will Levis
Dallas might as well keep swinging for previously high potential flops. Eventually one should be the next Sam Darnold or Geno Smith, right?
So, along those lines... Does this mean that the Titans are now in the race for the likes of a Carson Wentz or even Russell Wilson? Or, just going gung ho 100% on the shoulders of the rookie? Joe Flacco is still an option as well, I believe.
I definitely understand the sentiment. From the angle of a GM trying to save his job and investment on Richardson, it makes a ton of sense. But…one TE was already unavailable. And our WR room is pretty solid (Pittman/Downs/AdonaiM./A.Pierce/Dulin). I think they’re expecting a big leap from Adonai this year also. I didn’t think a 1st to replace our #4 WR was the move. As a Colts fan I don’t think the IOL is as much of a concern as people think. We drafted the C, Bortolini last year as a pre-emptive strike in preparation to lose Ryan Kelly. Will he excel? I don’t know. But I believe the team intends to find out. As for the Guard spot, we’re the same team that took a castoff Mark Glowinski and made him a starter who then got paid big and left. Then we turned 7th rounder Will Fries into the next beast, who then got paid and left. Our Tackles consist of B.Raimann(starter), Braden Smith(starter), Blake Freeland(4th rounder), and Matt Goncalves the 3rd rounder we just took last year. Aside from us having kept Danny Pinter who I don’t love, I’m assuming between Braden Smith and Goncalves we can fill the RT/RG roles. Still rounds 2-5 in which I could add competition also. So despite the outsider view that there’s a big hole, I’m not convinced it exists. All that said, we did interview Tyler Booker. But he’s a little big for my taste personally. And maybe that’s where I’m drafting for myself and not the real world here. I look at our depth chart at DT, and if either Buckner or Stewart gets injured for a length of time, it’s not pretty behind them. Plus, they’re both over 30. So it’s good depth and preparing for the inevitable reality those two can’t star forever. When Banks was falling I had considered him for the G spot. Miami made that one less decision for me. I then waffled on James Pearce a little bit. But my tie-breaker was the lack of depth on our roster and the measurables on Harmon. He’s the kind of length/athlete we seem to covet. And I believe there’s a tier drop after him. We also have a brand new defensive coordinator, and we know sometimes new coordinators get some extra attention year one to roll out their scheme. One other little thing I read prepping for this was that of the nine picks we’ve spent in the top 64 over the last two drafts, six of those nine went to offense. I kind of feel like if it’s not working, there’s no saving him. LoL Might be time to build up the defense so it can be top 10 once more. In RL there’s a good chance you’re right on them targeting offense. But as I analyze my drafting over the years, I realize I have a tendency to try to build the roster by improving the weak spots, until each position is above average or better, including depth. In this case I thought DT qualified. So while I appreciate a good back-and-forth, I stand by my decision on the Harmon pick. But I always enjoy a good conversation about front office perspective or approach
It wouldn’t hurt to bring in a veteran to bridge the gap, but as rookies go Ward has a ton of games under his belt at various levels so there’s worse things than him playing right away. As for Levis, I was upset when we drafted him and he hasn’t done much to change my opinion of him over the years (final nail in the coffin was him being shocked a 30 yard shovel pass was a pick 6, absolute zero confidence in his decision making). I don’t want him around giving any bad habits to my new QB when I could probably get a savvy “innings eater” type veteran QB for cheap.
Yup, Dallas just keeps taking shots at old traits that could benefit from a change of scenery. Most likely levis never really develops but he has the tools to take a shot on. Now I don't have to take one in the 5th or earlier and can play the board more freely.
Guys with starting experience and talent they never lived up to are usually about as good as you are going to do as a backup anyhow. They can usually step in for a few games and at least run the offense when a start goes down.
If I don’t make an earlier move and a target is still available I’ll be in touch. PM me if you want to discuss parameters ahead of time. Thanks
The Board is updated except for the Dallas Cowboys Block Buster Trade... not sure how to word or insert those trade moves correctly, so Im leaving that for @Campbell at his leisure.
After 24 picks, Michigan leads all schools with 4 drafted, PSU and Oregon tied at 2. Details at 11... stay tuned.
