With the #7 pick the NY Jets select Tyler Warren, TE, Penn St.

Despite it's being "too early" for TE to some... I get it, but no. This offense needs more star weapons and the Jets have no one at the position but Ruckert, a former 4th rounder who is a so-so blocker and so-so pass catcher thus far. Conklin went to Chargers. Warren is who I want for this offense right now notwithstanding all the other needs. An immediate weapon for Fields.

Ahhh, correct you are. Yes I liked Thomas more than Neal now that my memory has been jogged. But Neal was a pretty consensus top 10 player anyways. Albeit not quite as high of a ceiling as Thomas appeared to have. But bookend OT's is a great thing to have, when it works out as planned anyways.

Kinda piggybacking on that. This OT conversation is starting to feel a bit like the QB one we're all having simultaneously, where it sure helps when the prospect is supported properly with surrounding talent and playcalling. Not asked to do too much too soon.

edit: personal opinion: This Jets owner and front office better step up and bring something worth watching on offense. Bastards hiked the ticket prices despite being utter failures and miserable for the fans. Love the OTs on the board here, but let's see some kind of passing attack with Fields and a TE like this is a solid compliment to Breece and G5.

I like it, honestly. And in the last 1-2 weeks you are seeing this mocked much more frequently. It's not THAT crazy. Although I feel like the Lions of old with Hockenson are a good recent example that that particular position just doesn't move the needle enough to justify it.

BUT...as seems to be coming up in current QB or OT conversations, it's funny what some really creative/efficient coaching might mask for you. The narrative can be oh so different if the win/loss column simply plays out 2 digits differently.

Pinged him in WhatsApp, for whatever it's worth.
I find a few guys are like me. If they're in WhatsApp for any fantasy league football chats, it seems to be a place they check frequently.

the alternatives (for me) absent a trade down partner would be OT before Tet or the Dart throw.

Neal was definately considered a rock solid top 10 tackle. I had a lot of concerns about him coming out though. Bama tackles have a tendency to come out sort of “maxed” out and he had plodding feet and was a waste bender. It was Schoen’s first draft and he was still using Gettleman’s infrastructure. (I have heard stories about what threat was like and woah boy…)

he basically only drafted players he himself had seen in person that year. I tend not to hold that first class against him too much as a result. But he is the biggest needs based drafter in the NFL so there was no way he wasn’t using one of those picks on a tackle. Seems like Charles Cross was the correct choice though…

I was kinda in the same place with the Raiders. But compared to years past, I'm unfortunately behind on my scouting. So I can't say I feel as organized as far as a comprehensive plan goes, position wise through rounds 1-6 as I would have last year or the year before.

Maybe so. But you guys still had Barkley. And as I recall it part of the knock on Cross was he came from a weird blocking scheme where GM's weren't certain what they would get from Cross as a run blocker. Coming from Bama, no such concern in the Saban era.

Bama tackles. Maybe this is the year Steen actually starts for the Eagles. He lost the job to injury and Becton didn't give it back. Guard though now, not tackle.

I continue to not understand why the Giants refuse to try and convert slow footed tackles to guards… rumor has it they may finally try Neal at guard this year.

A hallmark of the worst franchises is they make bad choices that compound into other bad choices. I feel like I have been watching the same low lights since the Giants put themselves into position where they *had* to draft Ereck Flowers in the top 10 and forced him on the field as a rookie. At least Thomas is a very good tackle on the rare occasion he’s healthy.

And I say that well aware that I just drafted Shaduer Sanders basically replicating the desperation move of drafting Jones… because this is what bad franchise do.

Sanders isn't the riskiest pick. He has the basic skills needed by a great QB and a little flair but he needs a good coach IMO that doesn't let his dad's attitudes and opinions drive him and divide a team or stunt development (definite red flag for some teams).

In fairness, even myself with the Colts, some years you play it out exactly how you think "they will" do it. Other years, you defer to what "YOU would do". Or some combination in between.
The best years you feel like you're leaning towards your own instincts. And the RL team hits a couple of the same names, which is amazing. I remember trading up for example for S Khari Willis in one mock. No info, I just liked him and we could use depth. Two weeks later, Ballard did the same thing in real life to take Willis. A round or so earlier than I even had. Better yet, he seemed to be working out too. Until real life injuries forced an early retirement. Unfortunate. But I still remember that moment.

If you do enough mocks, you get to try different things. I believe the year the Colts took Richardson I drafted A-Rich in one mock, traded up to 1 for Bryce Young in another , and even took Stroud at 4 in a third. Win-win-win??

Reminds me of like 2019 when i took Javon Wims in the 7th round and then the Bears did the exact same thing! Awesome.

I mean he was a bum who's most famous moment was being goaded into getting himself ejected by that prick Gardner-Johnson. But at least we were wrong together!

strongly considered Dart for jets at 7, but same vibe and I really liked my alternative. Hopefully it won't be a Fields of Nightmares season for the Jets, who should probably draft their future QB in the '26 draft.

Giants assistant GM Brandon Brown went to Colorado games to watch him play in person 8 times this season. EIGHT!

I see Sanders as a fine prospect. I don’t know that I see what I would call a franchise QB though. I have done this enough years now to start noticing trends in my evaluations of QB’s. My biggest hits and biggest misses are on the guys with elite traits. I have learned that believing in elite traits is the way to go because half these guys are not going to work out so you may as well bet on a guy who has something special to hang his hat on.

Sanders is a “sum of his parts” prospect. A guy who has had the absolute best coaching, support, etc his entire life. How much better can he get? His OC at Colorado was a two time NFL HC who runs an incredibly QB friendly offense and was once considered a QB whisperer…

What’s elite about Sanders game? I took him because I think it’s what will happen and I’m ok with doing that here because I want to see how the rest of this plays out now. But what’s Sanders ceiling? Brock Purdy? A guy who will throw with timing and rhythm and only take you as far as the talent and scheme around him will go?

Giants need to stabilize and stop being a door mat. Maybe Sanders is the guy who can do that. But I think the Giants massively overvalue the idea of “is he tough enough for New York?” And the city will not be too big or too bright for Sanders. But they should be asking themselves is this guy a winner because New York won’t give a crap about if he is “tough” if he just wins.
