I used to plan city wide conventions early in my career. I'm surprised they are not just planned by three 25 year olds who just don't sleep for 3 weeks.

The superbowl is an insane deal though. I imagine the actual planning cycle for a super bowl is longer then the year between games. You probably only need a few month window to plan most of these things though.
