The Chiefs would have kicked the FG but the Eagles would have had enough time to try and tie it or even win it. That was a bad holding call.
I'm pissed the ref had to ruin that. Let us lose on the next drive. Nope Mahomes isn't allowed not to have last possession.
I would have liked to see other angles on that holding call. Mike Pereira said what I was thinking - from the one clip they showed, it looked like the holding call might not have been for the part they kept showing, but rather for a jersey grab right before the replay we did get to see. But they didn't show the other angles or the earlier portion of that same angle, so the regular TV audience will never know if it was legit or not. Seems fitting for the NFL 2022 season though. Just like so many other games all season long, the championship is a one score nail-biter that gets tainted by a dicey penalty flag.
Holding on recievers is one of those plays where sometimes slow motion does a disservice often making it look like it's not much but when you watch it at full speed it looks worse if that makes sense.
From a post by The Athletic: apparently Bradberry himself has said after the game that yes, he pulled the jersey and he understands the holding call. Tugging the jersey = the part Mike Pereira was talking about, which happened just before the replay they showed in the TV broadcast.
Eagles D should hang their heads in shame after that game, specifically the D-Line. They were fucking awful. Seriously how does a D-Line that talented put in that kinda performance, even against an admittedly good O-Line, but still. Eagles had the ball for over 10 1/2 mins more in that game. They owned nearly every metric other than T/O battle. People trying to compare that DL to the '84 or '85 Bears before the game lol gtfoh. Gave up over 6ypc on the ground, over 6y/p. 0 sacks, 1 TFL all game, didnt even register a QB hit after the 1st Q. And the best part, 4 KC drives in the 2nd half....TD, TD, TD, FG that would've been a TD if they'd wanted it. Unbelievable. Eagles DL completely shat the bed last night. Fair play to the Chiefs OL, they played well. And Reid helped them as much as they could with his usual excellence. But there were plenty of developing plays called in that game too and the Eagles DL simply couldnt get there. Honourable mention to the Chiefs DL. They gave up a lot in the air and too many deepshots, but crucially they shut down the Eagles running game which i didnt really expect. Hurts had a couple of nice runs but the RB's went for 3, 2.3 & 2.7 ypc last night on 17carries. It was enough to get the Eagles more 1 dimensional and it told in the 2nd half. Mahomes will of course get all the credit as he always does, but there was a LOT of talent on display in the trenches in this game, for both teams but more so for the Eagles, but it was the Chiefs that won it there.
Good stuff. I noticed over and over throughout the game that on short yardage runs or goal-line situations the Eagles o-line was blowing the Chiefs front D completely off the ball and in a big way. Its too bad they didnt take better advantage of that, but hats off to the Chiefs D-line for adopting and correcting accordingly. Looked to me the Eagles were more powerful, but the Chiefs had the speed.
I was pissed at the time it happened, I personally thought in that situation it was a nit-picky call, but good on Bradberry for his observation of the play.
The happiest man on the planet or at least the most relieved man must be Butker. I was holding my breath, lol.
No one is saying there wasn't a grab. The thing is that isn't ever called when there is zero affect on the play. It didn't slow him down, affect his stride, his timing, his direction or anything. Refs are supposed to let that go and they've been let go all game, even all season until that point. So "technically" it was a hold and Bradberry can't deny it and he wasn't going to sound like a bitch for saying he didn't grab him. But anyone can tell it was the ticky-tackiest of calls that guaranteed KC the championship minus a music city miracle type play. KC kicks the FG and then there is one drive for the Eagles to win, lose or force OT.
Ref said, "The defender grabbed the jersey with his right hand and restricted him from releasing to the outside. So, therefore, we called defensive holding." The grab was obvious from his view but I don't think I don't see the restriction he's speaking of. Juju actually released outside very easily without restriction. The ref panicked.
Instead of beating a dead horse about how the refs blew the game (btw they didnt) lets talk about how that was the best last grap play the eagles could come up with? Yes I know scoring was very unlikely but you have to come up with a play that at least has a chance. It seems like the play was go deeper than Hurts can throw and we will just chuck it up and head in the locker room. Shesh they would have been better off taking a damn knee that that crap. There was not a green jersey even near where the ball landed. Its almost like they never practiced or thought about what do we do if we need a desperation score. Granted maybe he couldnt throw it farther because of the shoulder injury but you had to know that going into that play. The cowboys zeke at center play was laughable but at least they were trying to accomplish something. Zero thats a big number in this game and much more important than a holding call (which the defender admited to btw). Zero is the number of sacks the eagles had during the game. Zero for a team that was supposed to be the best at getting to the QB this year. Thats not the only time zero would play a big role for theneagles though. Lets talk about how Toney waltzed into the endzone with zero defenders around him. Maybe just maybe you might want to have a guy out there to hopefully make a stop. As they say in the late night comercials though but wait there's more Zero defenders when the same play is run with Sky Moore to the other side of the field and he waltzes in for a touch down. Heck there was even zero guys out there when Mckinnon could have score and while it didnt matter from a TD stand point a player closer to him could have soved him out of bounce stopping the clock. Yeah if im the eagles im removing zero from all the uniforms so im not reminded about the number.
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni also wouldn’t blame the loss on the officials, instead crediting the Chiefs. “You know it’s not my job to. . . .,” Sirianni said. “I mean you’ll see me on the sideline. I’m going to argue with different things of calls here and there, but it’s not my job to make the call. Those guys have got to do that in split-second scenarios. That’s what he saw, and he called it. I know it always appears to be that it’s one call that makes [the difference]. That’s not what it is. Right? That’s not what it is. There are so many plays that contribute to the end result of the game, and today they were better than we were.” Thats a classy statement by; Nick Sirianni
