I'm fully on board with this. Regardless of Tannehill, rebuilding schedules or the run/pass makeup, Brown was about to become extremely expensive on the cap. His replacement is much cheaper. If they keep Brown for this year but then have to watch him fly away for a megabuck contract in free agency, the best they get out of it is a pick at the end of round 3 - in 2024. And to get that, they have to limit their own free agent signings next offseason. By trading him now, they got a first (to replace him) and a third (regular, not comp) THIS year. It's forward-thinking, but it makes a LOT of sense when you take the long term view.
Hoping 3rd time is a charm. Pulling a page out of the Bengals 2021 draft book with the mid round PK. If York is as good as McPherson, he's worth it all day. This is the our third drafted PK since 2017 (Zane Gonzalez). The other was 2019 (Austin Siebert). Obviously those didn't work out so well, but this is by far the earliest point in the draft that we've taken a shot. It's been a serious problem since Phil Dawson retired.
In other years it would be dicey to risk a 4th on a kicker. This year? Anything goes on day 3. K or P in the 4th, sure. LS in the 5th, water boy in the 6th, cheerleader in the 7th.
After trading down the Buffalo Bills select Matt Ariza, P - San Diego State That is who I wanted them (or the Eagles) to take. Both teams need a punter.
Kyron Johnson, DE - Kansas I'm fine with that. I don't like that it was a trade up but I like him. He wasn't drafted or a UDFA signing by us but I must admit I thought he was gone in the 5th or something so I didn't even check if he was still there.
