We'll agree to disagree on this. He clearly had his man beat. If he is the first read (and there is no way any of us know the progressions), then the other players are irrelevant. The defense is clearly biting underneath, which was more likely a good read on Baker's part, leaving the one on one to the upper outside. The upside to this route is a lot higher than the other options. We can argue all day, but the ONLY thing wrong with this play is that it was a terrible throw. If he leads him outside or up, either one, he has a much better percentage of completing the play. You can NEVER under throw that play, which he did. That is what should be argued here, not his inability to read the defense and find an open receiver. In this play, they were BOTH open receivers... Gotta make the throw.
Well, Beach does have an unprecedented level of enthusiasm and optimism in regards to the Trubisky acquisition. We'll see. I think that's just a fan being a fan though. There's been plenty of QB's worse than Trubisky roll through Cleveland over the last twenty years, and I always find a way to get excited about em....

Data says 98% of QBs are historically bad in crunch time. There are very few QBs in the history of the game with more game time winning drives than failures. Making excuses for the front office on this... How many comeback winning drives vs. failed drives does Deshaun Watson have?
Amen brother! To my recollection, there have only been (3) that I have openly criticized while the hype was still in play: Derek Anderson Brandon Weeden Deshaun Watson Out of those (3) Watson is clearly the best one and shows there are underlying factors to my criticism.
He's an ordained minister, maybe they are trying to even things out in the locker room just a tad. He's been a pretty good punter over the last few years though. Should be the best we have had in awhile.
The only one I can remember criticizing (after we made the pick) was Deshone "trojan man" Kizer....He was awful. I knew in my heart and soul that he was going to be awful. In spite of the worst Combine performance I've ever seen in my life, I somehow STILL found a way to convince myself that he could be good after the Browns selected him. lol! Good one Sashi. FTR: That was just a memory. I'm not putting Trubisky in the Kizer category. I like Trubisky, truth be told. Ohio boy and one of the best HS QB's I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure I ran this one on you before Irish, but it was definitely me this time, with the Kizer thing...
Imaging seeing we were competitive in 14 of 17 games with a broken QB and thinking the problem wasn't the QB's injury.
It's just weird how much he has been criticized compared to what he's done. 57 games, 34 wins, 23 losses, 64.1% comp pct, 64 TDs, 37 Ints, 1081 yards rushing, 9 TDs Playing for a really bad franchise for a really bad coach.
I like MT.. Kinda reminds me of another QB... At the end of the day, the GM has to ask himself, "can this guy get me to a Super Bowl?"
Who knows? Obviously needs to play to find that out. He has the arm talent and mobility. Let's see if he has the brains.
I mean, we've seen him play. And he has never shown that he has the brains. Great kid - we'd all love to see him succeed. But unless he had some revelation over the last year, he's the same guy that couldn't make reads on basic high school plays. Sure, Nagy sucked - but so did Trubisky. One does not excuse the other. Your statement literally reads like he's a rookie QB. He's in his 6th year with lots of starts. We know who he is.
Look, I enjoy all of the banter back-and-forth. But could we please take this time over to the Steelers thread? Not sure how the Browns free agency thread got hijacked with all the talk about Pittsburgh’s quarterback. Thank you
Yeah, that guy came on here waving his erection around. But it's my fault for pointing out how small it is. I'll drop it. He can find out for himself.
No big deal, I mean I would read about it on the other boards anyway, but just figured we should stick to the subject matter at hand for this thread.
To the subject matter, I will say this: I'm glad that I'm not in the position of Browns fans. I understand that moral dilemma. Outside of the moral issue, Watson is clearly the best QB they've had. I'm sure guys like SAS will do gymnastics to try and prove Baker is THE BEST, and Watson can't come close, but... Watson is a better QB. Whether or not he gets to shine in Cleveland with that staff, I don't know. But the team did upgrade the position, everything else aside. I'm probably not watching football this coming year. I wouldn't blame Browns fans for doing the same. Just remember, you've got a life outside of football - whether you choose to watch them or not doesn't change everything else.
I may have missed it but does anyone else get the feeling Berry & Co. are planning to shore up their draft pics by trading Ward? It feels somewhat similar to the Haden move, but Ward hasn't shown any signs of being washed up. If anything he's steadily improved and less injury prone. Still I can see the FO looking at Ward as their ticket to recouping thier draft position going forward, and trusting Newsome to be an number 1 guy. I don't like it, but I can see it. From a draft perspective, it mitigates the "selling our future" part of the Watson deal. It doesn't do anything to minimize the embarassment of locking the team to a QB who's character is at best questionable, and who will likely miss no less than 6 games at some point, but from a "future" standpoint it makes Watson our #1 pick this year and quite possibly buys us a #1 next year and maybe more. What are your thoughts.
