The US took control in the 3rd quarter of the 1st period and when Canada finally had a chance to ease the pressure they tried to finesse the puck out and up the ice and instead lost it and gave the US a quick continuation of their attack and it cost them. 1-0 USA through 1.

 

Good 1st period .........Canada just has to play their game.

 

Same story as the first goal. Sloppy, lazy defensive clearing lacking urgency results in a turnover and another goal. 2-0 USA.

 

Congrats. Knights was a beast.

 

They made Bowen Byram give out his team's silver medals. That is just cruel. It took all he had to hold in his emotions and then when he finished he broke out it tears.

 

Congrats to the USA........good goaltending by Knight and Excellent Defense....Canada had very few scoring chances in the slot.

Congratulations to the USA and to Canada too for a tough hard fought tourney. You brought real hockey back into our lives in memorable fashion.

 

Quite frankly, I was surprised the US won... tip of the cap to Canada, great team.

 

Amen, Dan... pucks in our life was a good thing and these kids fulfilled that.

I agree with Will..........watch out for Buffalo Sabres.

 

Dan and Will...........another team to watch for in 2 years is Florida Panthers.

New GM Bill Zito is walking into a good future.

 

Leaman wont get the kudos that he deserves but he was the main ingredient in this gold medal. He got everyone to buy into the team structure, had them ready for Canada but not afraid of Canada (long been my belief that this is the biggest obstacle in overcoming Team Canada) and he made an extremely ballsy move going back to Knight after the Russia game and subsequent shutout by Wolf.

Knight, Zegras, Boldy, York and Beniers were real standouts for the US throughout in my opinion. Cole Caulfield left me wanting more from him. Same with Turcotte but to a lesser degree. Also expected more from Byfield, just didnt bring the jam when it was needed most. Byram is a stud.

 

100%. Nice team win for the US but we all know how strong that Canadian roster was. Realistically speaking, it is every year. You gotta just capitalize when the opportunity is there and youre standing toe to toe with the opportunity to fight them. Dont blink and dont think about how good they are just play inside out and keep pushing. As mentioned earlier in this thread, this may have been the strongest US team ever in terms of NHL potential and they were still the heavy underdog.

I dont like Zegras spouting off about Levi before the game but I gotta give the kid credit for backing it up.

 

I missed that. Zegras was running his mouth? He'll learn to let his ice play do the talkin'... I hope. Levi was phenominal in the tourny.

 

Cole Caulfield left me wanting more from him.
