LOL no. I like Leo -- but frankly I expected to walk away from him in this exercise. He is a really good run defender who racked up 11.5 sacks playing under the franchise tag last year. But there is a lot hidden in that 11.5 number. 5.5 of his sacks came in 2 games. He had 2.5 sacks against Seattle. His average time to the QB in that game was over 4 seconds and overall he's around 3.5 seconds. The Giants secondary played it's minds out vs Seattle. The DC did an amazing job of disguising what was going on and forcing Russ to hold the ball to long. Carrol publicly criticized Russ after the game for not getting rid of the ball. One of his sacks in that game the tackle had him dead to rights the play had been going on for so long that Leo stopped rushing. The tackle had his back to Russ and stopped blocking and Leo ran around him for a sack. It was seriously like 4.5 seconds into the play lol. The other game was week 17 against Dallas when their line was a bunch of dead men waling and Andy Dalton was playing QB. Leo beat up on a 3rd string tackle in a game that didn't matter to the Cowboys. Leo is a very good football player. What Giants fans don't want to admit though is the DC game planned to put Leo in the absolute best position on every down. James Bettcher did that with Golden a year ago and Golden had 10 sacks. I honestly don't see that much difference in what happened here. Leo capitalized and got a bunch of clean up sacks so good for him... but MOST of the work he did was scheme based not just him eating the guy in front of him. (That also happened but not nearly as much as it would have needed to justify two freaking tags...) But he has had the Giants bent over a barrel for going on 2.5 years. Gettleman traded a 3rd and a 5th to rent him for 8 games. They tried to extend him then and couldn't work out a deal. Last year the tag was supposed to "to buy time for a long term deal" and he ended up playing on it. They are saying the same thing this year. Leo wants WAY more money than he is worth. He seems to be looking for Aaron Donald / top 5 edge kind of money. But he just isn't that kind of player. You give this dude 20 million APY and you will regret it. And now the Giants cap situation (with a QB on a rookie contract no less) ins in such a bad state they are going to have to cut their best lineman (Zietler) to make cap room for Leo's tag... I got Leo for 12 million APY here which is really the only reason I am bothering with him. I would be ok with the Giants going up to like $16 APY but what they are going to pay him is going to make me sick. I really don't understand why Giants fans refuse to acknowledge that Gettleman has been a freaking disaster.
