Man, we have gotten some serious goaltending displays this offseason. I hate that this one was on too late for me to watch. Demko looking damn promising for VAN's future.
I was thinking before the game that if Lehner goes, this series is over. Good solid win for the Nucks... good luck, VV
but, it begs the question: With VAN's cap situation, how are they going to be able to keep both Markstrom and Demko? It's more likely that Demko is some other team's future ...

Bang on Dan..........I say let Markstrom go FA route.........Thatcher is the Future......and the Future is here now. .........Go Canucks Go........wear your hat tomorrow night Dan.......lol
Yeah, I was thinking about this after I posted. Do you re-sign the older UFA and trade the valued RFA, or re-sign the younger guy that has shown flashes and let Markstrom walk for nothing? I haven't watched enough of either to know which is the right answer. But yeah, looks like they'll be hard pressed to keep both.
Got to have 2 goalies that can start and 1 in the bank for those 'just in case' times. Its a nice situation for the Nucks to be in.
On my phone I cannot copy & paste quotes. So I’ll just post a few comments and hope I’m coherent. First, I’m pulling out my classic Stick-in-the-rink Nucks hat, Larry. I’ll wear it proudly in your honor, and for Nucks glory! Every team needs a tandem in goal, but it has probably gotten too expensive for VAN to keep both. I think expansion plays into their thinking too. Normally, you keep the hot younger G, and let the older one go. But, that means getting nothing for Markstrom, and Demko would deliver a nice return in trade. They also have another young goalie in the pipeline who I do not believe would have to be protected in the Seattle draft. That all points to a decision to retain Markstrom and then get an inexpensive vet as a backup. On the other hand, Markstrom is huge but he’s been a bit inconsistent year over year. Demko strikes me as a probable Vezina candidate for years. The Canucks don’t want to be the cause for derision for decades to come. If they trade Demko and if he turns out to have a Hazek-like career they’d become the new Blackhawks who traded him away. O.K., perhaps staying coherent was a pipe dream. All I know FOR SURE is that VAN has a tough decision to make, but it’s a good problem to have.

MacKinnon scores point in 14th straight for Avalanche to start postseason Center ties Messier, Orr for second-longest such streak in NHL history Nathan MacKinnon extended his postseason-opening point streak to 14 games for the Colorado Avalanche in a 4-1 win against the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of the Western Conference Second Round at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Wednesday. The center had an assist on Mikko Rantanen's third-period goal to tie Mark Messier of the Edmonton Oilers (1988) and Bobby Orr of the Boston Bruins (1970) for the second-longest postseason-opening point streak in NHL history. Bryan Trottier of the New York Islanders holds the record for the longest such streak; he scored in all 18 of the Islanders' Stanley Cup Playoff games in 1981. MacKinnon, who also scored an empty-net goal, leads the NHL in postseason scoring with 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists). He will look to extend the streak to 15 games when the Avalanche play the Stars in Game 7 on Friday. The time has yet to be determined. The only other NHL player with a point streak of at least 14 games in the postseason in the past 25 years is Eric Staal, who scored 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) during a 15-game streak for the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006. Great day for hockey! Go Avs and Nucks........ and then, Islanders???? I met Thatcher Demko when he was on a recruiting trip. Was blown away by size and how mature he was and then finding out he's from San Diego. Happy for his success. FWIW, which isnt a lot, when its all said and done I like Knight as an NHL goalie more than Demko.
Gabriel Landeskog will be a game-time decision for the Colorado Avalanche against the Dallas Stars in Game 7 of the Western Conference Second Round at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Friday (4 p.m. ET; USA, SN, TVAS). "I guess there is a chance, to be honest," Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said Thursday. "I don't know how probable it is at this point." Landeskog was cut on his right leg by Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar's skate with 2:06 remaining in the second period of their 4-1 win in Game 6 on Wednesday in Edmonton, the Western hub city. Landeskog returned during the third period, playing one 16-second shift. The forward has 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) in 14 postseason games and was fourth on the Avalanche in the regular season with 44 points (21 goals, 23 assists) in 54 games. "I don't even want to talk about that," Avalanche forward Nazem Kadri said of Landeskog missing Game 7. "Hopefully he's in the lineup. He's a big part of our team, he's our captain, he's a big voice in the dressing room and he leads by example. He's a big part of this team." NHL.com
