The year I went early in free agency I went back and cut all of the players I signed prior to the start. I was using an incorrect source for time, which is my own responsibility, so I made it right be correcting my mistake. That would be the correct solution here as well. A mistake was made, so the guy making the mistake should be the first one to step up and take responsibility for it.
I was gonna do that the moment one person said something but when you added early wasn't it much earlier and not a clock error that we really had no control over? It's just really annoying when you think you've done everything properly.
It was something like 8 minutes early so it was clearly my fault. With something like this, everyone already had their rosters near max and I believe only you and one other person (RT) were on right at/near 6 to make moves, so I'm not seeing a major issue. Future options that I have considered in the past would include giving the last place team from the previous season the first crack at filling their roster, followed by next to last until we get to the champ being the final guy to fill out his roster. That my actually be the easiest, and most fair, way to handle the opening of FA.
Did you see the suggestion I made before? If there is one guy that doesn't need FA they can volunteer to be the FA starter. Sometime around 6pm they go to the forum on FF and declare FA open. No one that adds in the first couple minutes can add players until they reply to that post first.
If I would have needed to be involved in FA last night, I was shit out of luck, lol. Once the storm set in yesterday I was removed from the digital world. I'll bring this back up next off-season prior to the draft and we'll see what everyone thinks.
Well I’m the one giving Joe a hard time. And yes, Zach Vigil was my #1 target. But once I’m over the initial “Fuck!”, fact is I had 10 rounds worth of draft picks to take anyone important to me. And he apparently didn’t meet the threshold. So this debate suddenly has me wondering if we’ve reached the point where we’re taking this league too seriously, if such a thing is possible. I think I might like Tim’s idea of letting the last place team from the previous season fill the roster first. Kind of adds some intrigue and pressure to the last few rounds of the draft for the guys who did well the previous season
As for the rest of what he said, along with Jean, we could actually have untradeable picks after round 10. They are only made if you aren't at 40. It would also be everyone's only opportunity to get to 40 without a DST on their roster as it's mandatory to add through FF first. If you want certain guys you just gotta prioritize picking in the first 10 rounds. It's not like it would add too much more time either. It may even be quicker because we don't have to wait for FA to start. As soon as Tim updates the teams FA at that time is w/e and he declares FA open. It doesn't matter who gets in first then.
Actually kind of perfect. All picks after round 10 are untradeable and go based on last year’s standings. 30 minutes per signing from round 11 on so we’re not waiting too long. Last pick has to be your PST if you don’t have one. Boom!
I was talking with Joe about this yesterday and after considering it for a few hours, I think you guys have hit on the easiest and best fix to work with. It doesn't have a net negative on anything roster related and still puts a priority on the parity ideal. I'm on board with this, I'll be adding it to the rules and it will take affect in 2020. Well done, gentlemen.
One thing we would have to clarify is if we have to draft a DST to get to 40 and if so then do people at or above 40 by the end of the 10th round get an 11th pick reserved for DST anyways?
As long as DST are part of the starting line up I would think you would be required to carry one on the 40.
Well technically we don't have to comply during the offseason, but FF won't let you add normally without one on your roster.
