Side note -- I think the move is to 3 with the Jets. They have made it clear they want to move back and the niners are sitting there waiting for the cardinals to let them take Bosa...
Probably right. Makes sense... man if I was 49er GM, as much as I love Bosa, I'd be lookin for the trade that can set us up for a couple drafts....
I appreciate how you are trying to play it in the reflection of your real GM. I’m trying to do that more myself this year. Really enjoyed the Kyler, Hockenson, Udoh, and Sutton Smith picks.
Well aside from the QB LOL. Gettleman has a LOT of history in the league and quite a bit with the Giants. He has always been a huge measurables guy. He mocks analytics and he still believes a lot of the 90's and early 2000's football mantra's. I really struggle to believe he could bring himself to pick Murray. I think he is still trying to save himself for Herbert. Overall It's hard to trust he is going to fix the mess he had made marvelously worse. But there is also enough history to know he has a pretty good eye for talent as long as it is the kind of talent that fits what he wants to build. He has a coach that is on the same page as him when it comes to roster building as well. So as down as I am on the Giants with Gettleman in place I think he is going to build a really good base roster for whoever the next GM is to take over. Gettleman is 68 years old and just beat cancer this season. He was never going to be a long term hire.
I'm a big believer in a modified version of the BPA approach too. Drives me nuts that real Falcons GM came from the Patriots but is (in his own words) a "pure need-based guy" when it comes to the draft. BPA is better from a mathematical standpoint. I'm not too big on trying to apply the Moneyball-style goofymetrics to football, but roster building is truly a mathematical exercise.
I was originally planning to talk with you all about hosting the middle mock and experimenting with some different rules just for that draft. That idea went out the window when work suddenly got really messy. Maybe next year. Just as well since there wasn't a first mock anyway.
I like them in the order posted. Close between the Panthers and Redskins but I think this draft helps the Panthers while the Redskins are leaning on a bit more hope. But 2 QBs, Metcalf and the other guys has a good chance of getting Washington back on track. Some solid picks, especially early, by the Colts and outside Ferguson and Hill, maybe Edoga, I don't care about the Cowboys too much.

Eagles were my only team I did non-draft GMO things with while the Jags were the only one of those other teams to have done anything at all before I took them over. They signed Nick Foles before disappearing.
My draft ? Admittedly it wasn't too sexy. But, IMHO, it fulfilled my objective of the entire exercise - which was to: (a) improve the starting positions through free agency and (b) to add players through the draft that could compete for backup roles in 2019 and then develop into starters in 2020 and beyond. And . . . I ended up with about $22.4M in cap space.
@Lyman I know you said you didn't want to be in the official mock but what about an easy team like the Saints. Only 1 pick in the first 4 rounds and 5 in the last 3.
Thanks . . . but I respectfully decline. The amount of time I've spent on this has put me dreadfully behind on real life responsibilities. I do wish you and @RTTRUTH well in your upcoming mock and I'm sure all the participants will enjoy it without me.
And the amount of time you put into this has helped me not be epicly screwed on real life responsibilities. Actually I wouldn't have been able to really force myself on here much more than I did and if you weren't here RT would have been hard-pressed to essentially run the draft by himself. So thanks again. Don't be shy and peek in and tell TopDawg how he brought the Browns back to the Hue Jackson era.
