If you are thinking of putting Oliver at nose and leaving him there you are playing him wrong. Oliver doesn't have one position. Need to have a plan how to use him.
I won't. Something unexpected always happens and the top QB (whomever that may be) almost never slips out of the top 5 if he is worth a damn as a prospect. I just was surprised to see it happen here. Oakland has so much in the way of draft resources I am not sure trading down even makes sense for them. Gruden tends to coach his QB's hard and doesn't seem to like having a young guy at the position but he certainly doesn't feel tied to Carr. It would be interesting to see what happens with Carr if they take a QB -- do they keep him around or just try and trade him? His contract is easy to move from Oakland's perspective.
I know. One reason I'd probably lean Wilkins for the pick but Oliver has a higher ceiling IMO. That being said Wilkins is a guy some have falling to the 2nd round and I'd consider him for the Bills as early as #4 if the draft unfolded like ours.
If the Raiders take a QB in the first, Carr is gone. Even if they have to cut him. Wouldn't want a rookie QB looking over his shoulder every time he makes a mistake.
I have seen a lot of Wilkins moving up the boards lately. There is so much talent in this draft class I imagine team's boards will look wildly different from team to team based on preferences and scheme fits.
I edited it to Wilkins. Made a typing mistake. I'd probably put Williams at #1 among the "DT" guys and Oliver and Wilkins next depending on what you are looking for. Maybe even Oliver at the top if you want a more versatile guy.
And I see you were thinking the same as me on Wilkins but I confused you into typing Williams. I see your edit now lol.
I disagree.....Alex Smith had the best year of his career after the Chiefs went all in for Mahomes. It's pro sports. Competition is good at every position. Carr starts in 2019 and we bring Dwayne along exactly like KC did with Patrick. It's what Cleveland wanted to do with Mayfield, but he ascended past Tyrod in short order, and it didn't work as planned.. Of course, they didn't have an Alex Smith or a Derek Carr ahead of Baker...You've got a highly motivated Derek Carr, playing with a huge chip on his shoulder....Plus his contract is set up better to move on from him in 2020.
Doesn't work like that. Motivation? Carr is playing for his next team's tryout unless he kills it and the rookie doesn't flash when he is brought in for one reason or another. Too much invested in that time for GMs to give a shit about Carr.
Haskins is a one year college starter. I don't think it's crazy to think they may start him day 1 but they also may simply want to get him in camp and see if he can handle it before declaring him the starter. If that's the case you need to keep Carr on the roster to start.
Maybe your right on Haskins elevating past Carr, but I don't see why people think it'll be easy for Oakland to move Carr. I couldn't find anyone to offer me anything over a 5th round pick in this exercise....
APPROVED Broncos Trade 1(10) #10, 3(8) #72, 5(18) #149 Steelers Trade 1(20)#20, 2(20)#52, 3(2)#66, 5(3)#142
From a dead cap perspective he's movable but yeah I don't think you are going to get much in the way of assets in return.
This is confusing...but what do you mean it doesn't work that way? Did we not just see the KC Chiefs do this?? Why wouldn't Carr be motivated to prove to his own team that they made a big mistake? I'd think he's highly motivated. As Xinik pointed out, Haskins has about the same number of starts as Trubisky did coming out. I don't expect him to be ready day 1 of his rookie season..
