This guy was a Rimington award finalist. Our starting center, J.C. Tretter, is getting a little long in the tooth and he played through an injury virtually all last year. I think of Deiter as kind of a John Grecco, in reverse (Grecco was a Guard who could play Center). Besides . . . I'm a sucker for O-linemen out of Wisconsin.
I was wondering when he'd go. I considered him for 2(13) before trading up. The potentially major knee injury didn't bother me as stashing him on IR for his rookie year would solve a roster logjam. But the video of him assaulting a woman will liikely cause even more teams to drop him from the draft board than the injury. He's held it together since entering college, but it's hard to paint over that one. Ultimately that was what pushed me away from him for this mock.
Adderley (Devin McCourty clone) and Deebo would both be perfect fits for the Patriots. I considered trying to make an earlier move up for Deebo.
That's a worry for me as well, the team would certainly have to take a deep look into his character at school (something we sadly can't do here) and see if he turned himself around as well as advertised. For purposes of this though I was happy to take a top 10-15 talent in the mid 2nd and risk his character.

I'm never going to say "you get a pass for hitting a woman." But Simmons was basically a kid, his family had significant issues and history with the women and she was fighting his sister at the time. The video is absolutely brutal though... Apparently everyone says it was a one time incident and he is a complete model citizen... but yikes.
