Wow speaking of free agency, the Ravens are going on a shopping spree. Yesterday it was reported that they are signing Pernell McPhee and today it's Shane Ray and Michael Floyd. I'm fine with all these moves as they should all be short term and low risk deals. I don't think any of them are a lock for the team. With Ray and McPhee it seems like they want a rotational guy to come in and get to the QB 7 or 8 times. Floyd has been everywhere in recent years but hasn't been able to recapture the potential people thought he had with the Cardinals.
They are also talking to Jon Bostic. I don't think Floyd is more than a camp body. McPhee and Ray won't both make the team. Bostic is strictly a thumper, Bart Scott type so idk how they vjew him. Maybe a guy for obvious running downs, if he makes the team
It wouldn't be an off-season if we didn't have an article about how Chris Moore (or some other receiver) is poised to make a big splash. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if somehow after all these years, Moore suddenly started becoming starter material. I'm just not holding my breath on it after being burned so many times in the past.
I think in an ideal world Brown and Boykin are starters, but it's asking a whole lot for two rookies to be that productive. I can't believe the Pierce news. Guy is in his "get paid" year and he's too fat to practice. Welcome to the doghouse.
Pierce is likely gone after this season. That's not something the Ravens should even play with, and I'm a big Pierce fan (not as big as Pierce). Unless he had some unreported offseason injury thay kept him from any cardio, it's a disappointment. And we have too many younger players behind him. Mack, Sieler, Willis and he better hope Henry can't stay healthy. Plus next year's list of unrestricted FA d-lineman is loooooong
Hearing the news, you just have to wonder and connect the dots if that was why they made such a run at McCoy.
I will say this. We did something this past draft that the Ravens RARELY do. We drafted WRs early in the draft that can actually catch the ball. Look at the previous 1st through 3rd round WRs: Travis Taylor Devard Darling Mark Clayton Torrey Smith Breshard Perriman With the except of Clayton, these are all bad catchers who are "athletic" or "matchup nightmares." Those two things are great, but they don't matter if you can't catch. Hollywood Brown has great speed and very good athleticism. Miles Boykin has size, decent speed, and good athleticism. What separates thwm from the list above is that both of them can actually catch. That's why I can't truly compare them to previous WRs......for now anyway
This has me pumped up! https://www.baltimoreravens.com/new...-movement-could-produce-golden-age-for-ravens
I just read the absolute shittiest article I've ever seen written about the Ravens, and I'd suggest you guys not read it as to not bother giving the hack another web click. The "article" was basically an insinuation that Lamar Jackson is now a balloon who has Michael Pierced himself this offseason and will now have no ability to run or scramble. For reference, here is a picture of Lamar off the Ravens website today.
I saw that article. It's 100% clickbait and should be enough to blacklist that writer from any real journalist, or sports writer, jobs. He had 1 strange angled pic that might have been stretched. We've had players coming in saying they are shocked by how fast Lamar is (McPhee), and we've all seen various clips of him doing offseason workouts or in camp, yet this hack still tried to convince people that Lamar should be a TE now due to getting fat. It was a shame
Yeah I was honestly beside myself when I read it. I can't believe any person would purposefully make themself look so stupid AND that the website editor allowed the piece to be posted. Way to shoot any attempt in having credibility on anything. Is this the garbage we get to look forward to reading with Lamar? Don't get me wrong, I'm as concerned as the next guy about him taking the next step as a NFL passer, but let's not pretend that his rookie year was some abject failure with no highlight moments.
Josh Allen came in with the same kind of concerns and after one year everyone is on him. This is obviously a black thing so it's no surprise.
Who said Josh Allen is out of the water? A QB that runs too much has no tie to his color. Usually the ones that run too much are the ones that don’t throw the ball very well.
Do you guys think Seth Roberts is a roster lock? I don't at all, and when I see people posting about "locks", it makes me seriously question their thought process and validity. It should be simple, but to me "lock" means that barring injury or extreme circumstance (see Ray Rice), that person is making the roster. Yes the team may have picked up Roberts, but they have truly nothing of value invested in him, and we have all of 0 games of Ravens data for him to judge his production in the organization. It's not like you're talking about a Hall of Fame calibur player like Steve Smith here either. This is a general league jabroni who hopefully could come in and produce some yards, but he's far from a roster lock to me.
It looks like Quincy Adeboyejo has been released. I don't know how many people realistically were placing him on the roster, but I wonder what the story is. He wasn't at practice, so did he know he was already being released, or was he released for not being at practice?
I never thought he had a chance tbh. I know he was a fan favorite for some, but as soon as they drafter 2 WRs and added 2 more in free agency, he was done. On the WR topic, it seems Miles Boykin is looking great out there. I've seen a few of the clips on twitter as well as comments from people at the open practices. One said he is leaps and bounds the best WR out there. Jaleel Scott and Antoine Wesley have been getting a lot of praise also. Considering all three of these guys are 6'4 or 6'5, it would be nice to finally hit on one of these taller WRs. Wesley still likely ends up on the practice squad or phantom IR, but Boykin seems to be a lock and Scott is carving his way onto the 53. Can't wait to see them in preseason
Keeping with the WR talk, has anyone heard even 1 positive note about Chris Moore as a WR in practices yet? I get that you don't need to talk a lot about Snead or guys in the past like Mason or Smith because you know and have seen what they bring to the table. Moore has done nothing as a WR in the league though, and we've heard nothing about him yet. I cannot wait to see how these guys perform in the preseason. Right now (and until proven otherwise), Moore has an absolute ceiling as a WR 4. If Boykin really can put it together in game, he could easily supplant the role Moore was penciled in for. On another note, did you guys read about Carr being moved around the defense? On the surface it sounds nice to add flexibility to a good player, but I started thinking that it could mean more. With the probable need to keep 3 QBs again, roster spots are at a premium. They could be grooming Carr to take over flex duties like Levine did. Granted Levine also worked as a LB, but we have a lot of guys in the secondary who are younger and potentially have more upside. The writing could be on the wall for him.
