I'll have to double check, but I'm pretty sure I had Coleman in my top 3 for that receiver class (I hate adding ink into that column). I wanna say it went - Thomas *Coleman *Shepard *(possibly Thomas, Shepard, Coleman) A lot of people missed on Corey, but I remember Irish pulling a Thurl Ravenscroft and keeping a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole between the first round and Coleman. I think Corey may end up being another Justin Gilbert. Tremendous physical gifts but the mental aspect of the game just doesn't equate to this level. It could be that three years from now he becomes a solid slot option or a good situational receiver, but his window for living up to that first round selection is closing quickly.
Actually, it was.. Thomas Coleman Treadwell... Then you had an honorable mention to look out for Shepard, he is one of your major sleeper picks. Another great observation on your part.
Was that my final rankings or was that one of the lead ups? I know at a point close to the draft I had Treadwell out of the top 5 altogether.
That was a lead up, when we were all "discussing" Coleman and it was basically me against the world in the debate.
That sounds right. And I do believe that you were the only person that I remember discussing receivers with in 2016 that did not have a top 64 pick grade on Coleman.
@IrishDawg42 I was going back and looking through some old commentary on the 2016 draft and I found this - https://live4sportnetwork.com/forum/threads/2016-official-nfl-draft-thread.8112/page-16#post-397883
Haha, that's awesome. I gave you a retroactive "like" on that post @Tim. I don't think there is anyone, ANYWHERE, that called it earlier than you did!
I remembered discussing Baker being undervalued as a projected third round pick with Joe in PMs, but I forgot all about that part of our draft discussion with my suggestion of Mayfield possibly ending up with Cleveland. Does that put me out ahead of even @SAS ? lol
I suggested it in the draft thread based mainly on the idea that I expected Mayfield to end up a mid to high first round pick when it was all said and done, but you two were the ones that were convinced the Browns would actually pull the trigger with the #1 pick in 2018. I'll take credit for being ahead of the curve when it came to Baker being a first round selection, but I got nothing on you guys when it comes to predicting Mayfield would be the first pick in the draft.
Joe deserves some credit too. The next post after Tim's he called Baker shooting up after another full season! Also, ID, good call (retroactively) on Coleman. The intent on my post was more in reference to "talking heads". It just goes to show that having someone that is generally accepted by "pro's" as a top level pick can still fall outside of the top 2 rounds of players overall. Like you had Coleman, and many have Josh Allen. Adversely how some had Baker as the top QB but some didn't. Only time will tell on these things, but it makes for good discussion.
Fun Fact Of The Day........ Corey Coleman's last official play for the Browns was a 4th and 2 dropped pass. In a highly defensive fourth quarter, the Browns tried to rally a comeback and win. However, on 4th-and-2 with 1:46 left in the game, Browns receiver Corey Coleman dropped a wide open pass from Kizer at the Steelers' 11-yard line, giving the ball back to the Steelers on downs and sealing the Browns' fate. Score: 28-24. Record: 0-16
Well......ummmmm.....Kizer and Coleman would really only be 3rd stringers if they were on a real team. Hah!!!! In your face!!!!!
Wow... that is good foresight! I put Baker at the top of the 2018 class after he thumped Ohio State (9/9/2017), well after your post.
