^^^^^ Among the cuts: Danny Vitale (injury settlement), Nate Orchard, Devon Cajuste, and Matt Dayes. Simeon Thomas, sixth round DB drafted this year was also cut. Traded a 2019 seventh round pick (we have several) for Devaroe Lawrence, DE from New Orleans. EDIT: With the Vitale cut, we're not carrying a FB but we retained Charles Olson (who?) who's listed as TE... so I'm guessing blocking back?
Me, watching Jon Gruden destroy the Raiders. I don't think a team has ever had a worse offseason than Oakland. Then that they would follow that up with arguably the worst preseason, too. Whew. Tough to be a Raiders fan.
As the article alludes to don't write any of this in stone. With first priority on the waiver wire there are probably still 3-4 guys on the bubble.
It gets even better . . . Because they traded for him, they inherited his contract as well. In essence, the Bills gave up a 7th round pick to eat $2M in dead money this year and $1.5M in dead money next year.
Crazier things have happened. It's not like it's big bucks and the extra year, although guaranteed is appealing to teams if they can turn him around. I bet Belichick has a big enough ego to think he can straighten him out. He definitely has the need at WR.
Interesting stat that unfolded after yesterday's 53 man roster cut down; Of the 31 NFL teams not named the Browns, 8 of them (25.8%) have a back up quarterback who was a prior Cleveland Brown. Robert Griffin III ~ Ravens Cody Kessler ~ Jaguars DeShone Kizer ~ Packers Colt McCoy ~ Redskins Josh McCown ~ Jets Brian Hoyer ~ Patriots Brandon Weeden ~ Texans Brock Osweiller ~ Dolphins So, as bad as the quarterbacking has been in Cleveland, think of this . . . Over a quarter of all NFL teams are only one snap away from that.
They made five waiver claims (and likewise, five more cuts): https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/new...ers-in-latest-moves-to-reshaped-53-man-roster
It was funny over the weekend that Browns twitter had 2 main thoughts: 1. Sashi Brown really killed this team, acquired no talent, and the team is still feeling it 2. How dare the Browns cut rotational guys that Sashi acquired I was about 50/50 on my fringe roster predictions. As of right now, they are carrying 4 TE with 0 FB (even though I thought it was going to be Cajuste), Denzel Rice made the team (will still be seen if he contributes as a starter as I said in "bold predictions"; Jannis did get cut, I thought it would be in favor of a vet/someone better than Scott. ::side note:: Odenigbo and Vallejo had the most claims (or were 2 of the top 3) against them. Davis should contribute as well. Not sure about the other guys, but they're probably bottom of the roster/gameday inactives.
I must admit. Heading into Steeler week, I am VERY glad we have Tyrod on board. Especially considering the uncertainty at LT. As much as I want to see Baker play, I think the Browns are handling the QB situation well. It's exactly the way they said they wanted to do it. Now all Tyrod has to do is win some football games, starting this Sunday. He'll be fine, because unlike Kizer, Taylor won't give it away and suck the life out of the team.... We need to set the tone. Nobody is coming into Cleveland anymore and pushing the Browns around. I think it really starts up front on defense with Myles Garrett. If he dominates the way I think he can, it's gonna be CRAZY in the Dawg Pound this year....Can't wait till Opening Day.... Only 5 more days! WOOF WOOF!!!
That's what makes a rivalry. Not a bunch of false bravado. Knowing the other team has a guy everyone fears and is going to go up against your best. Can't wait for Sunday.
