Just so I'm clear on this . . . Exactly who declared Calloway a 1st round talent? The talking head sheep herders? Was that before or after he failed a drug test at the combine knowing full well he needed to pee in a dixie cup at the combine? Or was it before or after he was suspended by his own college team for an entire season?
LYMOMETER BROWNS FANS IN GENERAL ------------------------------*--------------------LYMAN (AKA BROWNS FAN) I'm leaning just a bit towards Lyman on this subject just as an observer with an opinion and not taking sides, the Browns did take their top 2 picks of the first round outside of the general consensus of the top 5 overall. They marched by their own drummer and I think right off the bat that's going to create division/controversy and conversation. I think Dorsey allows 'how he feels' rather than 'what do the numbers say' on some of his decision making... hence he went against the grain with Mayfield over Darnold. The Denzel Ward pick is definitely out of the box thinking, which can cause a hate him or love him opinion of the guy. I see reasons on some of the picks to say to myself; 'wow, wait a minute, is that the right move?' Some think so, some think not. One thing that's clear tho, is Dorsey doesn't give two you know whats about 'Big Boards' and stuff, but I think he sincerely looks for the betterment of the team. Bottom line for me as an observer and well wisher for the Cleveland Browns, is that I think they definitely brought in top talent and they will have a positive impact, they seem, in my opinion, to be doing a bit non-traditional. Time tells and the proof is in the pudding...
Ummm TD??? which one is it? Nobody thinks like Lym or He's quite typical? How can you argue 2 different points in a matter of minutes? And Lym you are correct. It isn't easy being on an island.
Careful there, @Will . Posts like that ^^^^^ will turn you into a leper in Northeast, Ohio. Just so folks know . . . I'm not unhappy about Baker Mayfield being a Cleveland Brown. I've said on multiple occasions that, if someone put a gun to my head, I would have chose Mayfield out of the top four QB's in the draft. My point is, and always has been, that the difference between these top 4 QB's is so small that any one of them would have helped the Browns in the long term. Given that, plus the fact that they went out and secured a bridge QB for the short term, made the absolute neccesity of drafting a specific QB at #1 a moot point. When you are the worst team in the NFL, evidenced by a 1-31 record over two years and back to back #1 picks in the draft, simple logic dictates that you select the best player in the draft at #1. This is further augmented by the fact that you can STILL get your long term solution at QB with the #4 pick. Had the Browns done that, then they would still have the ability to possibly get a starting LT in the spot they used on Nick Chubb in the 2nd round. Like I told Tim earlier, I have no issue with the DE out of Miami in the 3rd round. But I went absolutely ballistic with the Calloway pick in tbe 4th. The only reason for the Browns to go WR in the mid-rounds was to get an insurance policy for Josh Gordon. So what does Dorsey do? He drafts YET ANOTHER Gordon. Fucking brilliant!!!
Thanks for budding in wazoo...I was referencing all the other posters and mock drafters on this thread. Nobody on this thread is putting the Browns on blast except Lyman. Ok??... Good enough????? On the other hand, there are plenty of asshole Browns fans hanging out at the bars, or groceries, or gas stations, or wherever the fuck else I go, that sound exactly like Lyman... Hopefully that clears it up for ya...my apologies for being vague.
Translation: If you don't agree with the rest of the flock, you're an asshole. Meh. I've been called worse things.
Well you are being an asshole....but the translation should have been; Snap judgements are ridiculous, perhaps we should see how this plays out before we burn the GM at the stake and declare a complete disaster....lol! Geezus. Plus it's been 4 straight days of bitching and slamming the team I love...It got old Thursday night. This is why people laugh at the Browns and their fans... If you're going to be so bold on your inane assessment, as if everything you spew is factual, I'm firing right back at ya, and reminding you that you don't know a god damn thing about how this draft class will pan out...none of us do. Dorsey has a pretty solid reputation as a talent evaluater....Just sayin.
Okay, TD . . . You want facts? Fact 1: the Browns are 1-31 over the past two years. Fact 2: the Browns, as a result of that steller 1-31 record have had the #1 pick two years running. Fact 3: according to your sheep herders, thee best player in the draft was Barkley. Fact 4: also according to your sheep herders, all four of the top QB's in this draft have the ability to become Tier 1 QB's in the NFL. Fact 5: also according to your sheep herders, IF there was a leading candidate for the QB picked at #1, it was Darnold, not Mayfield. Fact 6: fact 3 was evidenced by the Giants picking Barkley at #2 - because he was still there even though they probably had a bigger need for Chubb. Fact 7: Calloway was suspended by his own team for an entire season. Fact 8: Calloway did fail his drug test at the combine even when he knew he was going to be tested. Fact 9: I am an asshole. And you are right. I don't know how this draft class will work out. Do you? Did I leave any out?
Facts #1 and #2 have NOTHING to do with our new GM... "Facts" #3, #4 and #5 aren't facts at all...Simply opinions. And I don't know any sheep herders.... Fact #6 is just hilarious...NYG opinions aren't fact's either. lol! Facts #7,#8 and #9 - you will get no argument here.... Calloway was a gamble, as I've mentioned a number of times....At least Dorsey's not a pussy. That dude would rather go for greatness than settle for mediocrity...I'll take that ANY day over the safe play...
I was worried that you guys would become a formidable opponent with this draft, instead they pick players who are similar to what Sashi would have outside of Baker. Chubb should have been their pick @ 4. A great pass rush is better than good coverage. Some one will eventually get open if you don’t pressure the QB.
You are correct, TD. Facts 1 and 2 have nothing to do with Dorsey. But they had everything to do with how he was blessed with the draft ammunition he inherited. I obviously have dug up some ancient burial ground of TD's. So, in the future, I'll be sure to clear my opinions with him before I post so I don't continue to embarrass "real" Browns fans. I'm out.
The draft is basically all a gamble. GM's are betting on "their" guys...If Denzel Ward was JD's "guy", love it or hate it, it should at least be respected...Of course it's okay to voice an opinion of the pick. What I didn't like was the non stop bitching. So there ya go... No idea why I let people suck the fun out of one of my favorite sporting events of the year as if they freakin know anything. lol!....I think we can chalk it up to 25 years of bullshit for Browns fans...But it still sucks when ya got grumpy fans that gripe non-stop regardless of what the team does...Just my take.
I honestly don't even know what that means...And couldn't care less if you wanna run off with panties in a twist....I just explained. It was all the bitching on the draft thread that stirred it.. I personally don't know any other people outside of our little arena that are into the NFL Draft anywhere near as much as me. It's borderline 4 month obsession every year. I don't think about it much during the season, but I'm full tilt once season is over...So I got frustrated with all the bitching about our new GM and the most important draft in Cleveland Browns history, because I enjoy sharing thoughts and opinions with other football guys like me during day 2 and 3 of the draft....Sorry. I'm a die hard, and this was a big deal for the Browns....The negativity just sucked. You don't know how it's gonna turn out. No one does..That's all I got.
I don’t care much for the Steelers draft either TD. Outside of getting the two players from OK State, I really think they just screwed up royally.
Just imagine your 1st and 3rd round pick were reversed an it looks much better. I had to do that with Marcus Smith and Jordan Matthews years ago, but they both ultimately sucked anyways. Sidetracking, all players from that 2014 draft class are gone from the Eagles now except for 5th round pick Taylor Hart who hasn't been on the roster in years after switching to OT from DE. Smith released, Matthews traded, Huff released after weed, Watkins not resigned this offseason, Ed Reynolds just simply never really made it. Our 7th round pick and key UDFA were Beau Allen and Trey Burton. They were key pieces but gone now. At least they should get comp picks next years.
