This post seems to be supportive of both Allen and Kizer. A poor run game (talent, playcalling) set them both up for failure. I’m in the Mayfield Camp, I just have a strong feeling that we’ll go Allen or That guy from USC that no one will remember on 4 years.
I'm with ya DvlDawg...NFL GM's can't get past the love affair for the perfect physique. I want Mayfield, but I fear the Browns are thinking something else...
The deeper into the thread, they break down the rushing efficiency and rates. Essentially, Wyoming was one of the worst rushing teams in the NCAA (106 out of 130) but dialed up the run way more than you would expect. It was suggesting that the coach thought less of Allen than an interview with him would suggest and ended up forcing the running game to try and have success. It's the opposite of Kizer, really, where Hue Jackson left the running game untouched for large chunks of game, despite the Browns being well-above average in terms of rushing efficiency across the NFL. Depending on the metric, the Browns were easily Top 15 and in some instances, Top 3 in the running game. And we called second-fewest number of running plays (excluding QB attempts) in the NFL. This not only hamstrung a struggling rookie QB from a defensive advantage standpoint, but also put too much on his shoulders in trying to do too much to win football games.
We're still seven weeks out from the Draft. A lot can and will change in the media and the narrative. Cleveland, New York (Jets), and Miami have shown more interest in Mayfield than any other team. My fear isn't that they won't take Mayfield... it's that they in fact *DO* want him but will try to get cute and take him at #4 rather than #1, allowing a Miami or New York to jump them and select him at #3.
Nice twist of words..the run game was so good that Crowell is gonna leave w/out even a fight to keep him
Not a twist of words, it was near the top of average per carry...the fact Hue refused to run more is on him. I keep defending Haslem for keeping Hue, but the number of rushes per game was an abomination considering what Crow and Duke were doing on average. Crow is going to leave FOR THAT EXACT REASON. There isn't a fight for a player that wants to go...let him go. I think the run game had more to do with the line than Crowell anyway. We can upgrade Crow.
I get it...FSU had a horrible yr for their standards but I don't go on warchant making every excuse in the book...they needed Jimbo and his stale ways gone......they got a guy who bleeds Garnet and Gold and doesn't want every last $....he is already changing the culture and the kids are having fun again....the defensive players would get drafted and play better in the NFL than college...coaching was at an all time low on that side of the ball and change was needed and we got it...look out come 2018 starting w you VT
