https://www.yahoo.com/sports/far-ma...-free-pass-dugout-surveillance-052243047.html Astros cleared of cheating, but questions remain....
That's all I'm sayin'...it was close enough it could've gone either way and the replay wouldn't've overturned the call on the field.
That's why fans need to do whats right and stay out of the way. Im not sure Betts makes the catch in the first place, but the blame is clearly on the guy's in the front row. I believe the right call was made on the field.
Agreed...you go to the game to watch great players make great plays...stay the hell out of their way and let them to do what you paid them to do.
it was in Houston and 2 of the 3 fans involved are wearing Astros gear. go figure. CBS analyst said something interesting - you can't assume even without fan interference Betts' makes the catch. Much like Moises Alou diving up a brick wall and the Bartman ball. Just because you're close doesn't mean you will catch it. The moment his body hits the wall could ajar his glove or something else from Betts' catching it. CBS says West made the wrong call as you can't assume Betts' would've caught it without the fans interfering with him.
the bigger thing for me and we spoke of this before is these start times. it was 10:15 EST and the game was in the 4th or 5th inning. that's late. now on saturday there's a 5:10 start time if the game is needed, but these games start later and later. im happy MNF doesn't start at 9:20pm on the East Coast anymore. Can't stay up till 12:30 or 1 am watching football with work the next day. i think the next dodgers-brewers game is 8:40 Central Time Zone. That's not too bad.
I can buy that logic to a degree, but it can also be a judgment call by the ump to assess whatever penalty he feels will nullify the interference.
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/joe-west-explains-fan-interference-114728385.html Yahoo Sports and CBS say the call was wrong and how West explains what he saw is wrong as it didn't happen that way...wow.
I mean, theoretically, sure, but obviously nobody would ever really do that on a play like that one lol...but the larger point is if you're operating under the premise that just because he's close you can't assume he'd catch it, the ump still would have to by rule make an assessment of what he thinks would've happened without the interference, and rule accordingly. I mean I guess we're maybe splitting hairs between "judgment" and "assumption" here, but other than situations where the interference "clearly prevents" a player from making the catch, the umpire is required to make a decision of what he thinks would've happened.
i guess because of this they may take it under review for an off-season change ? seems like we both make points here and the ruling doesn't clearly express the rule itself. after the Jeffery Maier and Steve Bartman incidents, i gave up on replays and MLB rulings.
108 wins + playoffs wins, they better win. another but the WS title is a waste after the season they had. they were smart to get JD Martinez. they have a great young core too. scary for years to come.
