How can you be over the Cap by $20M and be within the rules of this exercise? I'm trying to understand, but I'm confused. Please help, lol.

It is with some regret that the Eagles announce the trade of TE Brent Celek to the Cincinnati Bengals. He was the longest tenured Eagle and despite years of trade rumours he always stuck around and was a key player on route to the Super Bowl. He is still clutch at receiving but he has adjusted his game to be a great blocker with the bonus of being able to catch the ball. His hometown of Cincinnati, where he grew up and went to college, came calling to bring their boy home and, while it was a tough decision, the Eagles feel that letting him go home after keeping him around for a Championship is doing him right. In return the Eagles receive the Bengals' 4th round pick in the upcoming draft.

I meant under the cap. I started over the cap. We are technically still in the 2017 year until next Tuesday at 8am. Teams over the cap need to get under before then. I believe the Chiefs are the only team still over the cap still but they'll get it fixed before the deadline.

    lol

Yeah, that reads upside down. I think Joe meant to say that he was under the cap now.

lol... I look up to Joe when it comes to this stuff and that threw me for a loop... I was scratching me head.

I thought that's what he meant but wasn't too sure.

By the way... I'm enjoying this exercise and have plans for the Vikings... I've been quiet, but the wheels are turning, lol. I'm learning a lot and kid you guys not when I say; I'm reading and examining every post that pops up in this section of the web-site. So, I am paying attention and learning some things. :notes:

Free Agency is really got my attention... cant wait for that part to open up. :PC:

Chiefs, not Falcons like my avatar may suggest, are open to trading and whatever. Smith may be gone but I'd consider trading almost anybody else.

Well the 49ers paid more than the tag amount on the average price for Jimmy G. $27.5M per year.

I wonder if Cousins would accept anything less. As expected the NFL owners are screwing themselves by allowing QBs to take almost all if not all or more than the share of Cap increase. If QBs continue to make so much just for being QBs and owners continue to need QBs in such a limited market it's going to cause worse issues at other positions.

The rookie contract QB just keeps getting more and more valuable. $27.5 for a guy with 7 starts? Crazy. $90 million in three years... And I have to think Cousins beats this. Imagine what Rodgers is going to get...

I don't understand how they can keep escalating the percentage of the cap that is dedicated to QB's. There just isn't going to be enough money to go around at some point. Eli's number is $22.2 and he certainly isn't worth that kind of cap hit in his current form. But when guys like Mike Glennon and Tyrod Taylor get $15 APY how can you try to tell Eli that?

We aren't counting the Cassius Marsh and Jimmy G extentions right?

No. You gotta hope you win them yourself if they go to our FA. If not then what's the point of this? We set the real life deadline to last Tuesday.

Alright no problem. The franchise tag is cheaper anyways.

When you edit on Google Docs, the changes you make are auto-saved. As IrishDawg pointed out there is a delay in transfer to this web-site. I tested it and it works for me, but you have to refresh your browser on the Roster and Cap page after a few minutes or open and close your browser. The changes you made on Google Docs will eventually be reflected here at l4SN.

I have 43 active players on the roster and 20FA's... I've got work to do.

Holy Moly...I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. I have no UFA that I truly care about, no RFAs to tender..I only had (3) ERFA. Sashi Brown cut nearly every man with experience in this league over the past two years. I am simply building on the EXTREMELY young foundation he has set. BUT, when you look at where we are as far as veterans, you can start to understand how this team went 1-31 over the past two seasons. Only so much you can do with 21-23 year old backups that have to play significant playing time, and really don't belong on a 53 man roster. Many of these kids would have to be thought about to sign to some teams practice squads. Sashi truly implemented money ball and in football where you only play 16 games in a season, that simply doesn't work. I love his analytical mind, but his "addition by subtraction" principles simply don't work for this sport.

So, in a way I have a lot of work to do also, but not because of the talent that is leaving, it's the talent that every other team relies on for their experience and leadership that I need to find.

Well, good luck. You do have your work cut out too. The browns need leadership, hell, every team does. There is something to be said about having a healthy mix of the young up and coming mixed with veteran leadership... its the key to success in todays NFL, in my opinion. You must have a solid core and build around it... cant just have the youthful studs across the board and win. Winning is earned and acquired through experience, also in my opinion.

I'll be placing my tenders over the next couple of days. I haven't made a move for the Cowboys and Ravens yet but I'm not really actively looking to trade with them. At least not for anything major. I will listen to offers though.

I have to admit I was curious to see how the Sashi Brown experiment would turn out. It seems like it worked exactly the way everyone who follows football expected unfortunately. I guess his incessant trading down has left you in an interesting position this season at least. Dorsey has assembled a real stable of talent in the front office and you have a bevy of draft picks.

I keep thinking the is FINALLY the year the Browns fans have something to be hopeful about. Good luck pulling this together you have your work cut out for you!

See, I think Sashi was failed by his scouting staff and coaching staff. He did a very good job of signing good free agents to vaguely reasonable contracts and a great job of moving around in the draft (and getting good value for it) when the guys available to pick weren't worth the pick they had. If the scouts really thought Wentz, Watson or Trubisky were worth the picks, they should (and would) have been banging the table to take them. Yet there have been no reports (so far as I've seen) of former staff saying "we wanted to take X, but moneyball Sachi overruled us.

And anyway, Hue would have ensured that anyone they picked would fail, because he's an awful HC with an awful staff.

He was never supposed to be a football guy, he was supposed to be a getting value in deals guy. Yeah, he sucked at actually picking staff, that's on him, but I feel like they could have done better by keeping Sachi and overhauling the scouting and coaching staff, rather than (as it seems) keeping those two parts and getting rid of Sachi.

The reason the coaching staff stayed and Sashi went is simple....

Sashi parted ways with too many veterans and Hue let Haslem know that it is very difficult to win in the National Football League without any semblance of veterans...and he was right.

He was also a terrible head coach. I attribute that to his inability to focus on one main aspect, either focus on the OC duties and have an assistant HC to game manage or hire an OC and effectively manage game day and all of your coordinators. He was willing to cede defensive duties for obvious reasons, but had way too much on his plate otherwise.

He remedied that with the hiring of Haley, so my hope is he will concentrate on the HC duties and do a lot of studying this off-season of good coaches in game coaching and preparation. He needs to make a major leap in order to keep his job, but I think it is doable.

Sashi was a great asset acquisition guy. He was a great draft manager. What he didn't understand is the game of football and how important qualified players were at EVERY position, not just the 22 starters you put on the field. I could argue the other 30 players on the roster is what actually wins you games...the teams that consistently make the playoffs are some of the deepest rosters in the league.
