This is exactly why we all decided on it. If you were given a choice, which would you choose?

The current situation where Brees remains under contract for 2018 and you have a $23.5m cap hit, or he is deemed a free agent, your dead cap penalty for Brees contract ending takes effect and you are at a $18M cap hit and no QB?

This was a decision based on our thoughts that the Saints will do something prior to letting Brees just go and getting hit with the $18M cap penalty.

It was the most realistic scenario we could come up with, but due to the timing we needed to Implement it before free agency started.

Maybe, maybe not. In our simulation the Broncos GM placed a 2nd round RFA tender on Barrett (in the RFA thread), costing him $2.9 million, but ensuring he gets right of first refusal and gets a 2nd rounder in compensation if he refuses to match the offer.
