Last year I thought we saw bids that were impossible. I was wrong more often then not. But 36 million for Kurt Cousins? I fear for what real franchise QB’s will get moving forward if he hits that mark.

Glad Stafford signed last year instead of this year. To any team that doesn't have a long term franchise QB, good luck. Part of what happened with rookies making less money is star veterans will make more.

  9. I think that may be on the high side, Brees has talked about lowering salary to help bring in talent and he offered to cut his salary from $24.5 million last year to bring Malcolm Butler in. Of course there's also a chance he holds the team up and asks for $30. Brees is a weird guy and there is no telling which way he jumps.

By throwing this at the last second you changed my cap picture, I may need to change a few things and lowering the Delvin Breaux offer is one possibility.

Since you are creating random fair value contracts are you going to settle arbitration on the Nick Fairley deal as well, and give me a final cap number?

lol! are you saying I would be responsible for giving up two 1st rd picks if I sign Richardson? Because that was definitely not my intention...

Okay, since I'm an idiot, and I have I no business attempting this exercise, I looked up "NFL transition tag" and this is how it was defined:

A transition tag is a tool used by National Football League teams to retain unrestricted free agents. It guarantees the original club the right of first refusal to match any offer the player may make with another team.

Where does it say anything about giving up any draft pick considerations? Two first rd picks or otherwise?

Here is a snip of an article about that topic: (This was an article from nfl.com on feb 15th 2017)
Let's run down the three options:

Non-exclusive franchise tag: This is the most commonly used tag. When most people refer to the "franchise tag" it's generally the non-exclusive version to which they are discussing. It is a one-year tender offer to a player for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position over the last five years, or 120 percent of the player's previous salary, whichever is greater. The player can negotiate with other teams. The player's current team has the right to match any offer, or receive two first-round picks as compensation.

Exclusive franchise tag: A one-year tender offer to a player for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position for the current year, or 120 percent of the player's previous salary, whichever is greater. The player's team has all negotiating rights to the player. The bump in pay scale (current average salary versus averaging past five years of data) means only the crème de la crème get this tag (think: Drew Brees or Von Miller).

Transition tag: Think of this as the "you are pretty good, and we might want to keep you, but aren't willing to put a ring on you ourselves" tag. The transition designation is a one-year tender offer to a player for an amount that is the average of the top 10 salaries at the position -- as opposed to top five. It guarantees the original club the right of first refusal to match any offer the player might receive from another team, but no compensation if the team chooses not to match.

Each team can only use one of the above tags in a given year -- meaning they can't designate both a franchise and transition player. A player can be tagged up to three times by his team, with a bump in pay each time.

So if I'm understanding that correctly, I would not be on the hook for forfeiting any draft picks over to Seattle, if Chargers were to sign Richardson ? I just want to be clear...

From what I understand, two 1st round picks is only for the non exclusive franchise tag, a distinction which isn't in this exercise. A transition tag :It guarantees the original club the right of first refusal to match any offer the player might receive from another team, but no compensation if the team chooses not to match.

I understand it the same as you.
