2017 Season The Good, Bad and Ugly

My alternative is the offense is the worst in the league and my OL is vastly overrated...#70 and #66 either get bull rushed or beat on the outside speed rush....very bad players

 

So then... forfeit every game and just skip playing? Is that your solution?

Good

DeShone *gags* Kizer had *dry heaves* a *wipes tears away from eyes, gagging and dry heaving harder* very... very strong game *forcibly swallows own vomit*.

Yes... that DeShone Kizer. Yesterday was the first time that Kizer not only didn't cost this team a victory but actually led this team to a victory. If Corey Coleman hadn't dropped a sure touchdown pass, his line would have looked much better than it did. Posted his highest passer rating of the season (86.5), made some beautiful throws, and the three sacks are much more on the offensive line this time than it was on Kizer. He added another 43 yards on nine carries and a touchdown on the ground.

No, he still hasn't proven himself or done enough to keep the Browns from drafting a QB at No. 1 overall in April, but it's the kind of game that makes you wonder if he can give the free agent QB this offseason (A.J. McCarron) a run for his money in the training camp QB battle.

Browns tight ends. DeValve and Njoku combined for 6 receptions on 6 targets and 80 yards. In what should still be the featured pass-catchers, the Browns have two capable, chain-moving options who still continue to see a disturbingly low number of overall snaps.

Bad

Corey Coleman. Being taken at No. 15 overall implies a level confidence that you will become a dominant player. To this point in his career, he's proven to be slightly-below adequate. The drop in the end zone cannot be something your "premier" player at the position is capable of. For the game, Coleman caught 3 of 8 targets for 64 yards (a beautiful 44-yarder early) but that's it. For the season, Coleman's catching 46.9% of his targets - only besting Britt (45.7%), Louis (45.6%), and Treggs (27.8%).

Spencer Drango. The Bengals defensive line beat the brakes off of Drango and Coleman all game. Drango was especially abused in the game, surrendering three sacks at least (two on Kizer, one on Kessler) and follows up an awful game against Jacksonville. He's so, so bad that the Browns will have no choice but to invest in an offensive lineman fairly highly and/or sign another veteran in the offseason.

Ugly

Bryce Treggs. Wow. Taunting. On an 0-11 football team. Yes, Treggs should be cut. Yes, he's the likely cut candidate for when Josh Gordon returns - possibly as early as today. But how sad? That's on a player and a coaching staff.

Offensive Coordinator. The offense moved the football well in the game and the coordinator traded touchdowns for field goals. They mishandled another last-second of the second quarter which is on the QB and OC (the only knock on Kizer all game, honestly) and continues to underscore the need to add a qualified OC to the team. Hue Jackson is clueless.

Run defense. The Browns haven't had a problem stopping the run... until yesterday. The team found a new way to lose by allowing a struggling Bengals running game to have a field day. Yes, they were playing without Obgah and Collins but the players behind them need to step up.

Shizer

Hue Jackson. The category normally reserved for the QB gets to see the head coach/offensive coordinator yet again. Cue "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic.

This is a bad look, any way you slice it. It reinforces the notion that the team is moving on from Kizer and will aggressively pursue A.J. McCarron in the offseason. Worse still, the tea leaves are lining up (players interviews, reports, etc.) to retain Hue Jackson and give the boot to the front office.

0-11. The offense ran the ball well and Kizer played well. The defensive secondary had three or four dropped interceptions on Dalton, Briean Boddy-Calhoun's second drop was a walk-in six points. Add that to Coleman's drop and Zane Gonzalez's shanked 45-yarder and the Browns could have had another 17 points -- they lost by 14. For another week they found another way to lose a football game. It's on all aspects. Coleman drops passes (drafting/evaluation), Kizer and the OC struggle with clock management (coaching), Treggs gets a taunting call (coaching), Spencer Drango beaten like a drum (drafting/evaluation).

 

You do realize you can blame a player on every player....you keep pointing out how the Browns lost the game....Im sure you can find just as many plays where where Cincy could have made plays....lets just use this example....its 4th n 4 or 5 in the red zone if the LB from Cincy reads the play and makes the tackle at the 1 yd line the Browns dont score.....then the final is 30-9....these guys are human beings and not robots....not every guy makes every catch, block or tackle

 

Ugly
Another horrible challenge by Hue when it was as clear as day AJ was in bounds smh

1 - Browns blocked that QB draw well (video) and the read wouldn't have mattered... they were going to score.

2 - you've (once again) completely missed the point. Browns would be 11-0 if you could contest every single play. That's not at all what is being argued. What is being argued is that a Top 15 pick at WR should make a catch he's paid to make. A kicker, regardless of draft status, should be able to make a 43-yard field goal because he's paid to do that.

Even leaving the Boddy-Calhoun pick six out of it, the Browns defenders had four chances to intercept Dalton. Any one of those would have changed the outcome of the game.

Let's take your incredibly bad logic all the way. Browns execute their gameplan. Coleman makes the catch. Kicker doesn't miss. Browns intercept Dalton four times, only come away with 10 points (extremely conservative). Game over. Browns win 36-0 and move to 11-0 on a season.

 

You just made my point...their human and make mistakes, drop balls and MA...like I said you dont think Cincy is sitting in the film room and saying Andy your read did this so the ball shuld b going here? Dre the WR faked you hard inside therefore he's probably going outside on the fade route(comp 44 yds)...Cincy is so beat up on the defensive side of the ball right now that scoring only 16 pts is a joke....not sure what your trying to accomplish w all this

 

You seem to be the only one arguing for humans as robots. "If Cincinnati doesn't do x then y" is your stance. Not respect to a big, pivotal moment in the game, but with a simple read on a regular play. You are still missing the point.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly...I'm not sure our defense can keep us in this game. Rivers is on fire. (pun intended)

I don't think Josh will be effected one way or the other by the noise. Lots of opinions out there about Josh Gordon....I actually expect him to play well.

 

GOOD: Josh Gordon is back...

BAD: Gordon hasn't played since 2014....

UGLY: Joey Bosa vs. Spencer Drango....

Didn't they move him over to LDE? I could have sworn I saw him lined up against the RT in that Dallas game.

Not that Bosa vs. Shon Coleman is any better...

 

lol. yeah, either way it's trouble. Joey is a problem, and Melvin Ingram is no slouch....Our O-line has their work cut out.

 

There's no way this could backfire - especially involving a guy who's had a lifetime of addiction issues and relapses as recently as July.
