That's a defended ball, two totally different things.

And we will disagree on whether or not a ball is "catchable" if the receiver gets two hands on it. We aren't talking about high school kids...

Stopper, I can appreciate your position. Like, SAS, I played 6 years of organized football and was a CB and Wingback, so I know how difficult it is to adjust to a poorly placed ball and/or high velocity ball...BUT, I wasn't getting paid $8M a year to hone my craft so delicately as to be able to make those adjustments look easy...And I am guessing you aren't either...

That is the fundamental difference here, you want to hold the QB to a much higher standard as a professional, you want to hold the coach to a much higher standard as a professional...yet you are doing the same thing with the receivers as you are accusing TD and myself of doing, making excuses.

I'm sorry, if you are a professional and get two hands on a ball, I expect it to be caught. Now, that is much different than having a defender make a play on the ball, a much different scenario SAS...I am talking about a ball that hits both hands and either bounces off or goes through them, without interference from another player. Now, that said, I would also look at plays that a defender is involved and see whether that defender had influence on the ball coming out or if it's simply a concentration issue. There are a lot of scenarios that need to be looked at.

Simply saying a ball was on his back shoulder, to me, is not a "REASON" to give a player a pass on whether to say it was dropped.

    Update to 2018 Mock Draft:

#1 (Cleveland) - Saquon Barkley, RB Penn State
#2 (New York Jets) - Josh Rosen, QB UCLA
#3 (San Francisco) - Arden Key, DE LSU
#4 (Cleveland f/Houston) - Baker Mayfield, QB Oklahoma

I was thinking this when you posted about Barkley getting taken at #4 a couple days ago.

    He's a legit #1 overall prospect.

This running back class has some solid talent in it that is slowly gathering some buzz. I mentioned to @LAOJoe prior to the start of the collegiate season that I would not be surprised to see Kalen Ballage sneak into the bottom of the first round if he blows up the combine like I expect him to.

Easy to get excited about the 2018 when the Browns are losing games. I've had Barkley as a Top 5 guy since the 2017 Draft ended, but I agree he's got the talent to go #1 overall. What happens with the QBs is going to be interesting.

I may be in the minority, but Sam Darnold is a fringe prospect (first/second round). Josh Allen and Jake Browning I'm not fans of. The clear-cut best of the bunch has to be Rosen. Mayfield is my #2 dude. Arden Key has been a consistent Top 5 guy by most analysts, but he's off to a slow start - hindered by injuries - and even at his best was not in the Myles Garrett, Solomon Thomas or even Derek Barnett class.

  8. Im not saying a WR cant make that type of catch, but I dont think its the norm in certain situations...can you imagine Marino throwing a 5 yd slant from the same hash and it being behind you where you have to twist your body but get 2 hands on it....that to me is not a routine catch but according to your definition of a drop is a drop....I would tell my fn QB to throw the ball out in front of me instead of behind me to give me a chance

I had Mayfield potentially going in the top half of the 2018 draft prior to his idiotic move post-season (discussing it with Joe and a couple other prior to the 2017 bowl games). His play this year has definitely started to push him back up the board but we saw just a couple years ago with Dak how quickly a player can take a major draft hit off of a PR issue. It will be interesting to see how much that sticks with him in a class that has scouts focusing in on a lot of different arms.

The scouting community is moving forward with their glossy assessments of Darnold and Allen but their play so far this season should be raising some flags. Rosen is going to be the hot/cold fish in the sea for most GMs. They are either going to love that kid or hate him. Browning and Rudolph are going to get a lot of pub pre-draft and I wouldn't be surprised if both of them were able to sneak into the first round. Jackson is a wild card in this process.

Right now, I think 4 quarterbacks are locked into the first, but depending on how the order of the round shakes out we could see up to 6 signal callers go on day one.

I'm still doing preliminary evals so my rankings are extremely fluid right now. I won't have any kind of relative scoring for a few more weeks.

If I'm guessing what the NFL thinks by the information available to me I believe the list goes similar to -

    1a Darnold
    1b Allen
    2 Rosen
    3 Jackson
    4 Browning
    5 Rudolph
    6 Mayfield

I'm not sure where to place Falk on that list, but I have a sneaky suspicion that GMs and scouts are not as excited about him as the draftnik community is.

Falk's system isn't one that produces good NFL QB's. I've seen scouting reports lauding him for his ability to go through progressions, but that's easy to do if you're taking nearly every snap out of the shotgun. His arm talent is a major question mark.

I think the majority of GMs are going to have this exact view on it.

    He's not wrong.

  14. Allen on most nights will be lighting up teams cause hes that good vs lesser opponents or he will look mediocre vs high quality opponents cause the guys around him wont matchup...I think he will be a guy that will make or break himself at the combine and pro day

He's going to get the same type of treatment Wentz did based on school bias, schedule and talent around him so his pro day probably will have a big impact, especially if it's positive.

Have to go all the way back to 2011 for the last time that happened, right? I don't disagree with you... I just also think the results will be similar to 2011's.

    Newton
    Locker
    Gabbert
    Ponder

Three busts and an All Pro.

Lamar Jackson's my #3 and it's going to be interesting to see him measured. He looks 6'0" and about 185 but he's listed 6'3" and 212.

Man, if it's as bad as 2011 there will be a lot of scouts collecting unemployment, lol.

I'm also interested to see where Jackson measures in at. He has the type of talent that is going to make someone want to move up and take him a bit earlier than a lot of people suspect, but if he comes in underweight with questionable height he could see a draft day fall.
