2017 NFL Draft the Wide Receivers

Believe me, I don't want to pull a "Matt Millen" and spend high on WR every year, but I just don't think I'd let Ricardo Lewis or Kenny Britt stand in my way of adding a talent like Corey Davis...Teams get negatively affected when need starts to trump talent evaluation...

The real key, for me at least, would be; what is the situation with Josh Gordon? Can he get back to his all Pro form and contribute?

Only problem with that is, even if his situation is ideal at the moment, how do ya trust him? I don't think ya can...

Having the trio of Corey Davis, Corey Coleman and Josh Gordon would be lot of fun, but I agree that it's probably not the way that the Browns will go, because of other signings and so many other pressing needs...Not saying it'll be wise to pass on Corey Davis, just agreeing that Cleveland probably will opt to go another direction...

I have my doubts that Davis will still be there at #12 anyway...

    My top 12 WR's

    1. Corey Davis (a clear #1)
    2. John Ross
    3. Mike Williams
    4. Curtis Samuel (debatable on what he is, but I'm calling him a receiver.)
    5. Chris Godwin
    6. Zay Jones
    7. JuJu Smith-Shuster
    8. Dede Westbrook
    9. Ardarius Stewart
    10. Cooper Kupp
    11. Noah Brown
    12. Josh Reynolds

That's a pretty solid group of WR's. I think all will factor in this league..... Three of them though, really stand out to me. I think they are special, and certain to become NFL stars. That would be Davis, Ross and Samuel. All three just phenomenal talents...Curtis is obviously the wild card because he's not the traditional wideout, and that's why Williams sneaks ahead on the list, but I really see Samuel as being a tremendous weapon out of the slot...Whatever team gets him is gonna get a helluva weapon.

Zay Jones is lower here than I've seen most places. Has he fallen in your view, or do you think he may be over-hyped? Otherwise, have some of the other receivers on your list been risers in your view?

  4. Stewart shuld b higher and Josh Malone will b a steal

I like Jones a lot, if anything he's risen on my list to be honest. He wasn't in my top 10 a couple months ago.... I think maybe I'm just a little higher on Godwin than some others, but I have Jones at #6. Some might think that's a little high...It just depends on how ya see it I guess. Jones is an athletic freak, and he has the production to back it up. I like him a lot.

I keep going back and looking at film of Corey Coleman. The dude is a player. He suffered his rookie year more because his QB was Bob Griffin, than the broken hand that cost him 6 weeks...

I'm just not used to things working out for the Browns, but I must admit that a trio of Coleman, Gordon and Britt, would be really solid....

I guess the WR position in Cleveland is still clouded somewhat because of the never ending saga, that is Josh Gordon...

    1. O.J. Howard

With Corey Davis coming in for a visit, the Browns will have hosted three first round prospects at the position for private workouts (they get 30).

    1. Corey Davis
    2. Mike Williams
    3. John Ross

Still have 16 more of these to go that they haven't announced, but that is more than any other position group.

Quarterback: (2) Deshaun Watson, Mitch Trubisky
Safey: (2) Malik Hooker, Josh Jones
Cornerback: (2) Gareon Conley, Quincy Wilson
Running Back: (2) Joe Mixon, Dalvin Cook
Defensive End: (2) Myles Garrett, Takkarist McKinley
    Guard: (1) Sean Harlow

Not to say they will use No. 12 overall on a wide receiver, but that seems like an unnecessary pick to make at this point after willingly let Terrelle Pryor walk.

They made a multi year offer to Pryor which he rejected . Pryor only wanted a one year deal which he got from the Skins . He came back to the Browns after the Skins made there offer . the Browns didn't budge and I cant blame them .

I don't disagree with the handling of the Pryor situation.

I do think it's curious, however, that they would go back to the wide receiver well early on in this draft having let him walk.

They did draft 4 last year and got at best mixed results . Higgins has hands of stone that was the info on him before the draft . Louis played sparingly and Peyton got suspended . Coleman was hurt .

It takes time for WR to develop . if they go WR at 12 it has to be either Mike Williams or Brown .I hope they don't pick another WR early but I also agree we need more playmakers .

  13. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

    Mixed results?

    123 targets, 58 catches (47.2%), 698 yards (12.0 YPC), 3 TDs, 3.6 RPG, 43.6 YPG

Those're pathetic numbers for a single player... that was all four combined.

Combined yards per game ranks 75th in the NFL.
Combined receptions per game ranks 77th in the NFL.
Combined catch percentage ranks 190th in the NFL.

Higgins was rated the most pro-ready receiver and offered the "best hands of the class". He's a classic Brian Robiskie 2.0.

He played in all 16 games and was the best of the four we drafted, TBH.

For four games... not sure why the disappearing act happened in the other 12.

    For six games.

Michael Thomas, Mike Evans, Odell Beckham Jr., Amari Cooper, Sterling Sheppard, and a crap-ton of others would respectfully disagree.

Guessing that was supposed to be Davis (Corey Davis) and not Brown (Noah Brown)?

I'm not crazy about going first rd WR two years in a row, but Corey Davis is worth it. He's one of those rare talents, that just blow you away when you watch the tape...If we decide not to use #12 for a QB, I'd love for the selection to be this guy...

We need playmakers, and I think he's the best playmaker in this draft....

Other than Coleman, we kinda drafted scrubs last year, and our best WR is now a Redskin. So I think a case can easily be made for going after Corey Davis...

Word is, he's in Cleveland now for a two day visit with the Browns....I hope the earth moves under Hue.

lol! I know who you like SAS....

I'd be happy with O.J. Howard....Just not quite as excited as I would be about Davis.

Like I said months ago, if the intent is to be a smash mouth running team, then I think a better fit would be a TE who can block than a WR who can act as a decoy.

  18. TopDawg Legend

I think you gotta have balance to be effective these days. If you aren't able to throw it and run it, you are gonna be in trouble at some point. A good defense will take away your strength, and if ya can't adjust, it'll be a long day.... Dallas is an example of a "smash-mouth" football team, but they can finesse you through the air as well, which makes them extremely dangerous and difficult to stop. You can't just stack the box on Zeke, or they'll just throw it over ya all day...

In the end, I just think Corey Davis is the more valuable weapon and better playmaker than OJ, and with the departure of T.P to the Redskins and the uncertainty of Josh Gordon, I think an easy case can be made....but I'd have to agree that if the intent is to simply put him out in the flat as a decoy, then that would be a waste...and it would also be incredibly stupid. Corey Davis is no decoy.

  19. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

    As excited as Hue Jackson?

  20. TopDawg Legend

    if smash-mouth is what ya want, this should be the guy;

He is the one offensive player that I would take over Davis...
