Cook has matured a lot...these Miami kids have a bad upbringing....he's a leader and has a great work ethic and one of Jimbo's favs he ever coached....what do I think of Jimbo the person?
Bullshit...forgive my bluntness, but I don't care WHO is telling you to not apologize, which is utterly ridiculous to even consider, for 2 and a half years...as a man, you have the decision to make to apologize. I'm sure it was not a unanimous decision to not apologize and he took one person's advice at some point in two years and used it as an excuse to avoid it. The "timing wasn't right", pfft...if he was remorseful, he would have never walked out the door in the first place, he would have stayed there like a man to make sure she was ok. And don't feed me the "environment" diatribe, he grew up in Oakley California, on the coast...It is a high end suburb of San Francisco population 35,000...not to confused with Oakland CA...in the least... Then there was this: So, to answer your question TD..No, I don't think he deserves a chance to be in the public spotlight and collect multi millions to play a game. He has paid his debt to society and I feel he can remorsefully live out his life working hard at being a decent human being, and hopefully heading a loving family, but my answer is no to a job in the public eye...that's my feeling on the subject..
Smh... That's flat over-reaction to the video. If there wasn't videotape, this incident that you feel Mixon should spend the rest of his life paying for, wouldn't even be a discussion... How do you tolerate Pacman Jones being in the league all these years? Tyreek Hill? Adrian Peterson? Not to mention countless others...Do you know how many players have assaulted people in their past? Johnny was in trouble for hitting his girl, you didn't demand his immediate release. Nor call for his permanent banishment... How are you okay with Kenny Britt joining the team? I agree that these aren't the Boy Scouts of society, by why just ban Mixon? Just an example, but IMO, Adrian Peterson's crime was worse, and he'll be in the HoF some day.. His son wasn't an aggressive drunk screaming obscenities at him and pushing him in a public place. He was 4! God only knows what a four year old does to deserve being whipped bloody with a switch, but I don't remember you calling for Peterson's banishment....Nor Hill...Nor Greg Little (don't forget his stupidity and parking ticket fiasco's)...Nor Pacman...Nor Vick...Okay, maybe Vick. lol! I know you despised him...But I think you get my point. I'm certain I could go on and on with examples of deplorable behavior committed by players, that you didn't call for their ousting... The video is everything, and it's damning, but they can't just ban Mixon forever....They let Vick back in for crying out loud!...Mixon's punch has cost him quite a bit actually, and you know something, it's never going to go away, thanks to that video. He's gotta live with it forever, and he'll always be on thin ice...He could've/should've been a first round lock.
My take is that yours is complete UNDERreaction to the video. He flat out cold cocked her and turned around and walked out the door, knowing she hit the floor almost as hard as his fist hit her face, then didn't speak of it again for 29 months...about the time he realized he wanted to enter the NFL draft... Kenny Britt had driving citations, and an alleged bar fight that no charges were brought against him, but it is a FAR CRY from blatantly striking a woman so hard that she falls like a sack of potatoes unconscious, don't try to convince me(or yourself) that it is the same thing. I don't like the guy, but at the end of the day, it just isn't the same thing as domestic violence, imho...we all have our opinions, apparently your opinion is that it isn't that big of a deal to violently assault a woman as long as it was over a couple of years ago and he apologizes two and half years later, only to blame "the aggressive drunk woman"...where have you ever gotten that she was an aggressive drunk? She was pissed because he was calling her friend homophobic names, she yelled at him, he yelled back, she pushed him, he lunged at her, she took a swing and he ENDED HER. In no reports was alcohol ever brought into the situation in any way. Not until his ill timed apology did anyone ever mention alcohol, now you are painting her as a drunk, and apparently deserving of this...You want to "shame" me for my thoughts on the subject, I say shame on you. Then you don't follow my posts very closely...I actually spoke out a helluva lot more about Peterson than I am Mixon. I had pages worth of posts on that thread. I don't know that I am the NFL crusader and need to speak out against every single player that has played the game and had domestic violence, but for your examples...you are flat out wrong..I have posted repeatedly speaking against Pacman Jones... As for Johnny's incident, I was the leader in calling for his release when that came out..I think your memory is shrinking. I was one of Manziel's biggest supporter until the domestic violence issues.. I think you need to spend A LOT MORE TIME FOLLOWING MY POSTS...otherwise, don't call me out... Now for any player being discussed to becoming a part of MY team, I damn well fall within my rights to speak my mind.
You need to phuquing re-read my post...SMH. Since you missed all of it evidently....and don't twist my words up to suit your post. That was ALL BULLSHIT! Better yet, just forget it....I guess I missed all your crusades against every player that ever committed an act of violence.....We have all "spoken out" against this type behavior. There's a huge difference between that, and calling for a lifetime banishment...Geezus christ. Talk about over-reaction... I can't believe you are okay with that Jim Brown statue....Where was your crusade against him??? Are there grandfather clauses on these crusades, or what?
My post was bullshit? You called ME OUT TD, not the other way around...What have I stated that isn't true? I would love for you to tell me... Again, it isn't my job to call out, or even discuss every freaking player in the NFL, I have a day job and a life and it would take every thing I have to do that. If it involves the Browns, I will certainly talk about it and in the case of Peterson, I felt compelled to talk about it as well. I'm not going to spend 8 hours a day talking about every player though...I don't have time for that. For the record, I have NEVER STATED lifetime banishment, I have stated quite clearly that I would not want him in the league....I guess that's what the problem is here, you don't understand the meaning of over reaction...since you are the one over reacting. I state I would be really upset if Mixon is the second RB taken in this draft and you turn it into "IrishDawg's crusade to banish Mixon for life causing him a lifetime of anguish and pain." Why didn't you just put that headline up there? LMFAO at the "Irish you are overreacting" The overreacting came in regards to YOUR overreaction... And for the record, when I get called to the carpet I stand up for myself. Had you not continued to do so, I would have walked away and this wouldn't have become "a thing". And...For the record, you REALLY don't pay attention to my posts, I HAVE written many times about Jim Brown's off field issues...MANY times, including when it was announced about the statue. I don't think he should be immortalized in bronze because of those issues..however, I also wasn't around when he was playing for the Browns so it really doesn't come up very often..I believe the greatest player the Browns has ever seen was a total piece of garbage..and it continued after his playing days. I discuss this at length with my children when they bring him up as being a great player, every time they bring him up...
Here's just a few of the lines I wrote in my last few posts in regards to Joe Mixon's punch: So what does Irish make of those remarks? Evidently, Just that I'm completely okay with beating down women...smh. It looked obvious from the tape that she was pushing and yelling...The way I heard the story, she was drunk and yelling homosexual slurs at him...THAT DOES NOT MAKE IT OKAY TO PUNCH HER. I want to make sure I'm CLEAR AS A BELL about that.... Either way, regardless who was yelling what, if you are gonna call for a BAN of Joe Mixon, then you need to call for a ban of all domestic abusers...Not just "speaking out" as you put it, which was a complete cop-out anyway... My whole point from the beginning is WHY JUST MIXON? If you were truly calling for the banishment of all abusers, I wouldn't even have commented to begin with... And don't kid yourself and act like you aren't on your high horse because of the video... We all saw it. It's disgusting....It's an image that is impossible to forget. Without the video though, we aren't even talking about Mixon...That's just an obvious fact. Mixon has to live with it. The entire world saw what he did. He spent a year away from football, went through the law process, and it's impossible to determine how much it's cost him financially...He was an idiotic 18 year old that phuqed up bad. He made a terrible decision in the heat of emotion, but no, I do not think he should have to pay for it for the rest of his life...He's paid his price. It's never going away. Banning Mixon from a football career for life is ridiculous....
Look TD, I'm not going to let an argument over a player ruin our friendship in here... But you need to stop calling me out before this gets ugly...That's the last warning
[notify]top dawg[/notify] & [notify]IrishDawg42[/notify] Fellas, fellas... can't we just all agree that Dalvin Cook is garbage? *THUMBSUP*
LOL! Thanks SAS... shhhh, I've been warned. Look guys, Irish and I have had similar conversations to this for many years. He always wants pro sports to be full of Boy Scouts and Choir Boys, and I'm always around to remind him that, that's not realistic... I think it started with Michael Vick, way before the dog thing.... Anyway, I'm sure we'll survive the Joe Mixon crises... I don't really even care. I got pissed when he insinuated I'm okay with what Mixon did, and that I somehow painted it as "she had it coming"... So I fired back, like I do...Not calling him out. Just dishing some back while explaining my stance on the issue... Bottom line: I'm not going to go back and find it, but Irish did say something to the extent that Mixon should never be aloud in the public eye, and he should spend the rest of his life out of football, trying to become a better person...Then he says, "he never said anything about banning him for life"...a complete contradiction. Who knows? Who cares? I'm done with it... I'm just glad the NFL isn't going to hold it against him forever and deny him a chance at redemption...
Irish, your friendship is important to me. Maybe it would be easier to understand my stance on this issue , if you understood a little bit more about me... Born with a condition known as CMT, and raised in an upper middle class, loving environment... I was never able to play organized sports past 6th grade. Getting into my teen years, I made up for that void in my life, by being the craziest kid in school. Not an exaggeration. There was nothing that I wouldn't do. No dare I would refuse. I have no idea how I'm even still alive. I did so many crazy things... Don't get me wrong, i was smart and always got good grades, but pushing the envelope was my thing, especially when it came to partying and getting wild. My parents were naive, and always thought it was just a few bad influences in the crowd I ran with, but they were wrong. I was the bad influence. I was the risk taker.....They had no idea how dangerous I was to myself, and potentially to others... Naturally, this led to some trouble with the law. Nobody ever got hurt, other than me, but I was facing some pretty serious accusations. In the most serious fiasco, i was in a car wreck (not driving) with a couple friends. We were all drunk. We slammed into a ditch and I went from passed out in the back seat to straight through the windshield. I was severely concussed and don't remember any of it, but evidently I shoved one cop and took a swing at another, when they showed up....All I remember is waking up in the hospital, with a police officer handing me my house arrest form, to sign. He was pissed because he had to fill out two of them, due to the fact that I signed the first one, Ozzy Osbourne...That should give an idea of how obnoxious I was... Needless to say, I was in deep shit, and since I had juvenile record and I just turned 17, they wanted me to go to adult court on this one... For me, once I sobered up, and the reality of my actions hit home, it changed me forever. We actually totalled two cars that day! We could have easily killed somebody, it was only for the grace of God that we didn't. I was SO out of control.....But this time, they got my attention...I entered rehab. I straightened my life up, and I'm thankful to this day that the judge had mercy and gave me another chance....I got to spend my entire Senior year on house arrest, but it could have been way worse...I learned my lesson. In the 30 years since then, I've never had more than a speeding ticket. I don't stand up for Joe Mixon....I stand for second chances. I can't speak for all young men, but I know that a lot of them just don't think about the consequences of their actions...They react in the heat of the moment, especially if drugs or alcohol is involved, and face the music later...I was like that. Young and dumb...Mixon's crime was awful. There's no denying it...If he was 30, believe me, i'd have a completely different outlook.. My thoughts...Punishment has been served and he should get an opportunity to pursue his dreams....Should he re-offend in any manner, then let the axe fall... Just thought maybe that would clear things up a bit, at least from my perspective....
I know your background TD, I'm not judging you...or your stance. You asked about my stance, I explained it and then you attacked my integrity by stating I wasn't leading a crusade against every player in the NFL, and if I didn't lead a crusade then my opinion basically doesn't matter.. What ever, I'm over it, I could care less at this point...As I stated before, I'm not going to let an argument over a player effect a friendship.
smh....Irish, we still friends. I'm not letting this fiasco stand in the way of that, but... *WALL* I don't know what to say man. This is a miscommunication from hell evidently....I welcome anybody to go back to post 157 on the last page, where this all got started, and judge for themselves...I wasn't on any attack and I've never inferred your opinion doesn't matter...How can I walk away from this, when you throw that out there? Most would agree, this is an extreme stance on Joe Mixon ; I don't even know how you can make a statement like that and NOT expect somebody to come with the obvious Q's...Why only Mixon? .What about all the other degenerates playing in this league? Are you calling for their permanent ousting? ...Still don't understand how that was taken as a personal attack on you, but I'm sorry that you did, it certainly wasn't my intention to offend you. I've heard you speak out against many guys that deserved it, but I simply don't remember you calling for anybody (other than Vick) to be banned forever... It absolutely was not a personal attack, and I don't think anybody else saw it that way either. You were the only guy calling for Mixon to be permanently stonewalled from the league. Who was I supposed to direct my questions to?....Seemed an obvious response to me. The thing is, I know you too Irish. I know you don't like these guys with checkered pasts, and that's fine. It just seemed bizarre to say that about Mixon, when we all know there are lots of guys in the NFL ,with felonious assaults and all kinds of deviant behavior on their rap sheets. Maybe it wasn't your intention, but it sure seemed like you were just singling out JM....So I had questions... Just for the record: If there was an "integrity attack" in this ridiculous thread, it came from you (post 164), directed squarely at me; Was there any doubt this thing was going to spin sideways after that zinger?
Holy phucque TD... BECAUSE WE ARE DISCUSSING MIXON, in regards to the upcoming draft as it relates toy Brownies... What in the hell does Pacman Jones have to do with the draft and/or the Browns?? I don't know what to tell ya bud, I guess your going to lose sleep over this one. I'm not on a crusade against ANYONE...I am staying my opinion that domestic abuse PEOPLE should not be in a public profession...Not just football players, that includes actors, politicians, etc... Its my view and no matter how many times you tell me I'm wrong, that view isn't changing. I'm not going to New York to pickett the league offices to ban ANYONE from the NFL...Get over it already
lol! You can rest assured I'm not losing sleep...I was ready to drop it, and then you continued on with the "td attacked me and said my opinion doesn't matter" bullshit, so I responded... I never said you had to go on a crusade for anybody, Irish. lol! ....Your comprehension skills have escaped. I just explained it...I don't know if you are trying to read between the lines or what...Know matter how you try to spin it, my question's to your thought's on Joe Mixon were legit...Not an attack on you in any way...You started the nastiness....I don't know what else to tell ya, bud.... *DONT_KNOW* Obviously there is still a disconnect...I never told you that you were wrong about Mixon. I completely disagreed with your take, and thought I explained my position on the matter rather clearly...But I have respect for your opinions, Irish....We are aloud to disagree and converse on such matters...I still have no idea why you took it so personal. If anybody should have been offended, it was me when you said to me, "We all have opinions. Obviously you are okay with a man brutally assaulting a woman, as long as it was over two years ago"....nuff said. It got phuqued up after that... I'm done with it...
