From WalterFootball Curtis Samuel*, RB/WR, Ohio State Height: 5-11. Weight: 197. Projected 40 Time: 4.44. Projected Round (2017): 1-2. 2/25/17: Sources have compared Samuel to Percy Harvin in terms of being a fast, explosive play-maker who is a hybrid wide receiver/running back. In 2016, Samuel had 74 receptions for 865 yards with seven touchdowns. On the ground, he averaged 7.9 yards per carry for 771 yards and eight scores. Samuel has play-making upside for the NFL. As a pro, he will be more of a receiver than a running back. Samuel runs quality routes with the speed and suddenness to get separation. He can stretch teams vertically and is a dangerous run-after-the-catch receiver. With his speed and bulk, Samuel could line up as a slot or outside receiver to produce mismatches. He also could operate out of the backfield at times. If Samuel goes to a creative offensive coordinator, he could be a real weapon. From Draftscout - Current rank him 37th on big board Samuel moved to a hybrid H-back role for Ohio State as a sophomore and became the centerpiece of the Ohio State offense as a junior, separating himself as the most dangerous weapon on the roster. He grew up modeling his game after Percy Harvin and filled a similar role in Urban Meyer's offense, lining up in the backfield and as a receiver -- only player in Ohio State history to finish his career with 1,000+ yards both rushing and receiving. Samuel was the rare New York City recruit to receive attention from all the top-tier programs, committing to Ohio State the moment Meyer offered him a scholarship. With Ezekiel Elliott to the NFL, Samuel became the featured weapon of the Buckeyes' offense in 2016, leading the team with 74 receptions for 865 yards and seven scores and finishing third in rushing with 771 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. He was a First Team All-Big Ten selection at receiver and also received several All-American honors. A natural ball-handler, Samuel is a balanced athlete with the explosive traits and natural acceleration to produce chunk plays in various roles. Similar in many ways to Stanford's Christian McCaffrey, Samuel is ideally suited for a hybrid offensive position that highlights his instinctive run qualities as an inside rusher, but also his strong hands and route-running as a slot receiver. Now that I think about it, Curtis Samuel is already there...I don't know what to tell ya stopper...but I'll still take $$$. lol! how much did we bet?
Actually, the bet was that we would start hearing talk of him going in the first round after he dazzles at the combine, but evidently that chatter has already begun... Samuel will blow it up in Indy.... The man is a dynamic weapon.
Here's a couple more I like that haven't been mentioned on this thread yet, but should have... Jeremy McNichols*, RB, Boise State Height: 5-9. Weight: 212. Projected 40 Time: 4.50. Projected Round (2017): 2-3. 2/25/17: McNichols doesn't have great size, but he was a tough runner for Boise State in 2016. McNichols averaged 5.4 yards per carry for 1,709 yards with 23 touchdowns. He also had 37 receptions for 474 yards with four touchdowns. As a sophomore, McNichols averaged 5.6 yards per carry for 1,337 yards with 20 touchdowns. He had 51 catches for 460 yards with six scores. McNichols could at least be a back for the passing game in the NFL. Wayne Gallman*, RB, Clemson Height: 6-1. Weight: 205. Projected 40 Time: 4.54. Projected Round (2017): 2-4. 2/25/17: In 2016, Gallman averaged 5.1 yards per carry for 1,087 yards with 16 touchdowns. He tacked on 17 receptions for 113 yards as well. Gallman also missed some time with a concussion. He is more of a quick slashing runner with some athleticism as a pro, but he doesn't have a lot of power for the NFL. 9/3/16: Gallman was the workhorse of the Clemson offense in 2015, averaging 5.4 yards per carry for 1,527 yards with 13 touchdowns. He also caught 21 passes for 213 yards with a score. Gallman is a quick runner who could stand to add some weight for the next level. Gallman has impressive feet with the ability to be elusive in the open field. He has tremendous lateral quickness to dodge tacklers and a burst to accelerate running North-South. Gallman also has some power to him to pound the ball for some tough yards and finish off runs. It would be good to see Gallman improve his knee bend and pad level. He is a taller back, and as a result, he can run a little upright at times. That can lead to issues with injuries and ball security.
Could DeVeon be as good as LeVeon? De'Veon Smith, RB, Michigan Height: 5-10. Weight: 220. Projected 40 Time: 4.59. Projected Round (2017): 3-5. 2/25/17: In 2016, Smith averaged 4.7 yards per carry for 846 yards with 10 touchdowns. He made 16 receptions for 66 yards as well. Smith is a tough downhill runner who also has some vision and cutting ability. His numbers suffered in 2016 because he split carries, but he is a talented back. At the East-West Shrine, Smith was excellent and sources raved about him. He showed some real receiving and blocking skills. The performance in St. Petersburg earned Smith an invitation to the Senior Bowl, where he put together a solid week.
RB NEWS: -Due to age and injury concerns, (among other things), don't expect demand to be huge, but 30 something year old RB's Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles will be free agents.... -Browns put 2nd rd tender on Crowell...
Charley Casserly loves this guy. Called Foreman, "the big dude, with feet like a little dude"...Says he's far better than Lacy coming out of college, and is easily in the top 5 of this years RB crop. Thinks he'll come off the board near bottom of first or top of 2nd round...Could be the next Jerome Bettis. It'll be interesting to see his 40 time, and how he runs at the combine...
lol! you got a one track mind stopper....There are some other good RB's in this draft. I like Cook too, but Foreman is a 250 pound battering ram. He will draw some attention.
I agree I want a power back in the mold of Hillis , Kevin Mack . I love a big back that can punish people . then let the Duke do his thing . Thunder lightning backfield . love me some smash mouth football !
Man wuldnt the Browns love to have Winston, Benjamin, Timmons, Freeman, Ramsey, Jernigan, Edwards Jr, Goldman, etc
Fournette was the biggest to weigh in (240 pounds), although he attributed five pounds of that to water weight. If he can run a somewhere in the 4.4 range (he says he can), then he's a lock to go Top 5. Foreman came in at 233, down 16 pounds from his listed weight at Texas. That's honestly good for him because he wasn't a athletic-looking 249 last season. I was about to come up with some far-fetched draft trade where we could move up and select Fournette in the Top 6 after taking Garrett at #1 overall. Bucky Brooks has him dropping cleanly to #12 and us picking him up. I doubt that happens, unless he runs slowly tomorrow.
