    If there is a rookie gaining steam, it's this guy;

    Pat Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech
    Height: 6-3. Weight: 219.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.68.
    Projected Round (2017): 1-3.

  2. An AFC senior personnel executive compares North Carolina QB Mitch Trubisky to Derek Carr.
"Call me crazy but I see a little Derek Carr in his game," he said. "From the poise, decisiveness and quick delivery to the precision passing and athleticism, he looks like the real deal. ... The inexperience bothers me and I can't stop wondering why he couldn't beat out Marquise Williams (for the starting job in 2014-15)." An AFC scout quoted in the same piece also brought up Trubisky's inability to beat out Williams: "He has all of the tools. I like his arm talent, arm strength, and athleticism. He is the prototypical quarterback that you draw up. ... I just worry about the one-year wonder deal and the fact that he couldn't beat out Marquise Williams for two years. I don't care what anyone says. If he was (that good), he should've been able to win the starting job. There's something wrong with that!"

  3. Players mature at different rates...Williams was a real solid QB in UNC's system and had the experience...I really don't see how it's a big deal he didn't beat him out

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports the Chiefs are expected to decline Nick Foles' team option for 2017.
Most outlets had Foles pegged for a $10.4 million salary for 2017, but Garafolo reports it's actually a more reasonable $6.4 million. Either way, the Chiefs aren't likely to pick it up, which would make Foles a free agent. It would save the Chiefs $6.75 million in cap space. Foles bombed out in his short time with the Rams in 2015 but looked good in limited work with the Chiefs last season, completing 36-of-55 passes (65.5 percent) for 410 yards (7.5 YPA) and a 3:0 TD:INT ratio. He could be a candidate to start somewhere come Week 1.

The line to get into the QB room is getting longer.

    No thanks on Foles, though.

I was pretty high on him coming out of college . not really wanting him either just putting it out there .

I agree. Not that big of a deal. QB's are an enigma at every level. Sometimes the "light" goes on and a guy elevates his game a few notches. College coaches aren't perfect either. Even the G.O.A.T. never locked down the UofM QB position until midway through his senior season. Lloyd Carr kept trying to give the job to the baseball player, Drew Hensen...It happens. Ohio State fans should remember Stanley Jackson inexplicably getting snaps over Joe Germaine in the 90's....Then under Tressel, about 10 years later, they kept trying to give the job to Justin Zwick, though eventually they just couldn't deny Troy Smith...It's far from a perfect science.

What's important with Trubisky is his physical talent and his mental acuity....Not the number of games he started in college...

Saw a mock yesterdsy that had the Browns taking The Texas Tech QB at 12...i damn near dropped my phone.

He's my #2 behind Deshaun Watson... I will be surprised if he doesn't climb the rankings leading up to the draft...This year's Carson Wentz

I still think Trubisky will be the first QB selected...Has anybody heard if these QB prospects are going to throw at the combine? Lately it seems a lot of guys are choosing not to throw until their pro-day where it's all scripted out for them, and the receivers are familiar...It sucks IMO. If I'm a GM, I'm giving a guy props for throwing at the combine when everything isn't perfectly comfortable for him, and I'm taking into account his unfamiliarity with the WR's....Unless there's an injury, these guys should all be throwing, though I fully understand it's a business call. It's easy to see why a guy that produced like Watson at the collegiate level wouldn't want to throw at the scouting combine, but it's still a red flag in my book just from the competitor aspect, for the ones that decide not to....

So far, Watson and Mahomes are the only ones that have stated publicly that they ARE throwing at the combine. I think more will end up throwing as well though.

That's good...Hopefully they each take part in all the drills. We're only a couple weeks away. I probably say this every year, but this really is a crucial draft for the Browns. They have set this offseason up to really be a pivotal turning point for the franchise. The more information they can gather on these guys the better. Clearly the Ray Farmer regime had major flaws in the player research department. Not sure what the hell they were doing???No doubt Browns nation is paying the price for that now....Moneyball certainly has their work cut out for them, but I don't get the feeling that, "lack of proper research", will be an issue with these guys...

    Important questions:

Did RG3 show enough to hang on in Cleveland for another season? I haven't heard any ringing endorsements from our FO...

Do we currently have any QB, outside of Kessler, that is sure to be here come training camp?

Bringing in David Lee obviously puts a connection to the Browns and Tyrod Taylor, should he become available, and I think that is a strong possibility if our coach sees that as an upgrade over Griffin...

  14. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

Big surprise! I don't think RGIII showed enough to be brought in LAST season.

We still have Kevin Hogan lurking out there. My gut still says Jimmy Garoppolo will be a Brown. That would give Hue three similar QB's around which to build an offensive scheme.

  15. TopDawg Legend

Yeah, I just think the fact that they haven't come out and assured everyone that RG3 is a part of the future plan, it just doesn't bode well for him...If I had to guess which way the Browns go, I'd say Garoppolo, but the hire of Lee does make me think Tyrod Taylor could be a target...

If they were to sign Taylor, I believe they would still draft a QB, possibly early....If Garoppolo is the plan, I doubt they would, since he will likely require a premium pick or so just to get him here. The main thing with him of course, is to have a contract extension in place.

Myles Garrett is the Andrew Luck of 2017

Garrett's brilliance aside, there's some good nuggets about the QB's, such as...

    • Tony Romo is expected to be released.[/*]
    • Jimmy Garoppolo could remain with the Patriots.[/*]
    • The 2017 rookie QB crop is "terrible".[/*]

It's getting harder and harder to ignore the narrative that this is a bad QB class. While it's extremely unlikely to go without a QB in the Top 10, it could be looking more and more like only one goes there (#3 to Chicago).

  17. TopDawg Legend

I think Trubisky will go #2 to SF, and Watson will go somewhere in the #3 to #10 range, most likely to Chicago or Buffalo....But I agree that Garrett is #1, and unless we move down, he's coming to Cleveland to put some bite behind the bark...

  18. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

That's been my thinking for some time now, too, although recent comments by Mini-Shanny and John Lynch are starting to sway my opinion.

Lynch: "You get in Kyle Shanahan?s system and you?ve got 15-word plays," Lynch said. "And the coach is in your ear but you still have to replicate that with confidence and authority. And so it?s a big challenge for this entire league."

    To me, that says veteran.

Shannahan: "You don't want to gamble. You want to find a guy who's going to be the future of the franchise."

To me, that says young veteran.

    Answer: Jimmy Garoppolo.

I do think Chicago will take a QB early because, unlike Cleveland and San Francisco, they have some stability in the organization. They've got a situation where a rookie can learn slowly or, if pressed, could have early success. Can't say the same for the Browns or 49ers.

I think Trubisky is the first QB off the board and he goes to Chicago.

Oh, Garrett's going #1... it's just the question of whether or not he suits up for Cleveland or if Tennessee gets stupid and unloads 2-3 first round picks for him.

  19. SAS M.V.P. Rams Chargers

Poll of the day: what's more gross...

    • Trading anything more than a single second round pick for Gar-crappolo (MKC reporting "at least" #12 required now)[/*]
