In a week where people raved about Kizer crushing it in interviews and sounding confident in media sessions, it stands in contrast to how Trubisky came across. Meeting with a media on a regular basis is part of the job description. Meeting with a hostile media is part of the Cleveland experience. Projecting confidence goes a long way. More importantly, this is his job interview. Wentz, a Division II prospect with a limited amount of tape and a hitch in his delivery solidified himself as a Top 2 pick by killing the face-to-face aspect.
Joe Montana was always awkward with a microphone in his face. Everyone is different....I understand what you are saying about confidence, but don't read too much into his nervousness. This is a different stage for all these guys. Last year nobody knew who he was, and now he's in the major spotlight as perhaps the nations top NFL QB prospect. An adjustment period is needed I imagine...I remember thinking Derek Carr seemed real nervous in his interviews, and he looks to be developing just fine....
[twitter=https://twitter.com/TonyGrossi/status/838003591587762176][/twitter] For Irish... it says, "Deshaun Watson won the title and wins the interview in competition for No. 1 quarterback of the draft".
Weaknesses Benefits from an offense that is predicated on simplified reads. Offense able to create wide-open receivers after busted coverages at times. Needs to improve resetting feet when maneuvering pocket to improve accuracy and power. Tends to "see" pass rush too often. Will drop eyes and look to escape pocket rather than stepping to available pocket space. Frequent trips outside pocket increase opportunity for injury. Pocket feel is very average. Stepped into sacks he had no business taking. Didn't have to throw to tight windows often. Average processor on field. Still learning when to get rid of the ball and move to next play. Slow to make anticipatory throws and can improve patience in allowing combo routes to mature rather than rushing the read. Missed obvious pre-snap blitzes. Drive accuracy needs work. When cutting it loose, ball tends to sail on him a bit. Arm strength is adequate but inconsistent to field side. Needs to bring hips through throws to increase zip into tight windows in NFL.
Man the more I hear Hue talk, then more I think they are all in on getting a QB this off season. I'm not sure he would be publicly talking constantly about bringing in guys to try and find "that guy" if he was even curious if one of the one's currently on the team could be. I'm fairly certain, they will be drafting a guy..if that's the case and they are hoping to get the future QB in this draft, then THIS GUY...must be... OUR GUY imho.. I started watching all his tape last night, and the more I watch, the more I like. I'm not enamored with his entire skillset and I truly believe he would need a lot of help, but it also sounds like Hue would like to give someone that help. I think he has the best chance of becoming a THE top QB out of this class.. I'm not so sure he won't become the #1 overall pick of this draft, because I don't believe he will be there at #12 and neither does Hue, he has said so several times now(he said his top QB prospect, not Watson specifically).
There wouldn't be enough bleach in the universe... [twitter=https://twitter.com/ProFootballTalk/status/839274736710467590][/twitter]
I agree with you, Irish. Unfortunately, I believe the Browns (or at least, Hue) are targeting Mitchell Trubisky. I keep reading more and more how much Hue loves him.
With some of the potential QB moves this offseason, there could be a clear-cut path to a guy the Browns want/need being available at #12 overall. San Francisco: trade #2 overall to Washington for Kirk Cousins. Washington likely wouldn't trade away a QB for a draft pick to get a new QB, so that could become a safety, cornerback, or Leonard Fournette. Washington would need to address the position later in the draft. Washington: if Cousins is traded, they'd need to address the need in free agency or the draft. They would still own #17 overall (their pick) and they could address it there (Mahomes or Kizer). Chicago: being reported a deal between them and Mike Glennon is all but done at this point. This would seem to indicate they think he's the future of the franchise and would address defensive needs at #3 overall. Then, Jacksonville (#4) and Tennessee (#5) would be out of the market. New York Jets: could be where the first QB comes off the board. Initially reported early on that Trubisky was their choice. Also reported that Christian Hackenberg has improved "behind the scenes" and they feel comfortable with him and Petty going into the season. Could also be in play for Tyrod Taylor. Los Angeles Chargers (#7) only goes with a QB if they think Philip Rivers is at the end of his road. Doubtful, unless they trade him. Carolina (#8), Cincinnati (#9) wouldn't have a need there. Buffalo: assumed at this point that Tyrod Taylor is released. That would leave Cardale Jones as the only QB on the active roster. Unlikely that they can convince Tony Romo to sign, so this is the most likely spot for a QB to come off the board. Deshaun Watson is the best prospect and makes the most sense, but is he too much like Tyrod Taylor from a play-style and they want to move away from that? New Orleans (#11) can then basically name their price if one of the top two (Watson, Trubisky) are on the board with Cleveland one spot behind. If a team wants one of those guys, they'll have to offer the Goff deal to get there. Otherwise, Cleveland gets either Watson or Trubisky, whomever doesn't go to the Bills at #10.
It's now being reported Tyrod Taylor is staying in Buffalo. Also, something been haven't discussed much... Mary Kay Cabot(unreliable) is reporting the Patriots said no to the #12 pick for Garoppolo, want #12 and 2018 first, just to consider a deal. She said she believes they would consider the #1 overall... NOW, if the #1 overall is in play for a trade for QB, wouldn't a trade for Cousins make more sense than Garoppolo? It's being reported the 49ers might be sending #2 overall to Skins for Cousins...
Beat me to it (I was needling stopper over on the DPL). [twitter=https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/839548728763641856][/twitter]
Also, saw that the Jets are a potential landing spot for Hoyer. [twitter=https://twitter.com/AlbertBreer/status/839553462023176193][/twitter]
CBS Sports draft analyst Rob Rang wrote that Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer's "inaccuracy during [Combine throwing] drills was frightening." Per Rang, Kizer "looked like he had never taken a five- or seven-step drop before." That shone in stark contrast to the work of some of the other big-name quarterbacks in Indianapolis, as both Deshaun Watson and Mitchell Trubisky showed off well in those same tests. Rang passes along that "ome longtime NFL evaluators after the workout asked me point blank, 'What has he been working on all this time?'" Prior to the Combine, NFL Media's Mike Mayock tagged the Notre Dame product as his No. 1 quarterback in the class, but he did not help himself, at all, during Combine work
I've been saying this for a while now...Finding a QB is the main reason Hue is here. He does not speak confidently about Kessler at all. Then the other day he declared that a starting QB in this league must be at least 6'2".....Which leaves us all wondering why we drafted the 6'1" Cody Kessler last year... *DONT_KNOW*
I think Kelly has him all messed up, he didn't look nearly as bad in 2015, then all of a sudden his release is screwed up, his footwork sucks, etc...I think getting with a good QB coach in the NFL will do wonders for him...however, it's a huge risk based on his 2016 game film. Kids extremely smart though...
