McAvoy & Carlo are a very strong blue line for the next decade.

Good luck "giving" away Backes. No, Boston is going to have to pay to clean up that gaffe.

Of course, McAvoy's contract takes a huge pressure off Sweeney to dump Backes' contract. They have room to sign Carlo - I think Sweeney should press for a long term deal to lock him in. It'll be interesting if he can avoid any movement clauses if he goes LT; I know a lot of teams would love snagging that Colorado kid.

If Sweeney can lock up that pair without having to pay for cap space (through a Backes deal), then he deserves Beantown's gratitude.

Boeser signed a three-year contract worth $5.875 million annually with the Canucks on Monday.

Boeser had been missing from training camp while he settled his contract negotiations with the team so he should be ready to go now with the new deal. The 22-year-old notched 26 goals and 56 points in 69 games last season. Should he stay healthy, Boeser has a good shot at reaching the 60-point mark for the first time in his career.

Point signs three-year contract with Lightning
Forward gets $6.75 million annually, was restricted free agent

Brayden Point signed a three-year, $20.25 million contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday. It has an average annual value of $6.75 million.

"We are very pleased to re-sign Brayden today," Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois said. "He is the consummate professional with an unwavering commitment to team success, growing as a player and improving every day. It is that mindset that makes him an outstanding role model, teammate and person, on and off the ice. We look forward to getting Brayden back on the ice with his Lightning teammates as soon as possible."

The Lightning have three preseason games remaining, against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. They open the regular season against the Panthers at Amalie Arena on Oct. 3.

Talk about two time zones apart, how is Point worth $4M less than Mitch? Even though it looks like a bridge.

The Point deal now changes thing up a bit.

How much is Laine really worth?

Gotta think Laine signs a shorter term deal. $7 x 3/4?

Totally agree, he has so many weaknesses besides that he scores over 30 every season.

I’d think both sides would want short term. Some obvious red flags in his game, especially last year. And then from his perspective if he can pot a couple 40+ goal seasons he’ll break the bank when this hypothetical short term will have ended.
