A lot of these guys don't want to go long term before the new tv contract.

  5. Catfish Guest

they better hope there isn't a damn lockout !

  6. skinny123 Guest

    Hopefully not.

2021-22 the new contract will bring in a winfall for teams on top of the $500 million from seattle. The cap could go up to $95M by that time. Some deals signed now will look cheap.

$95 mil cap? i'll believe that when i see it. i don't trust the powers to be in the NHL.

They already have a pre-set agreement on 50/50 split on HRR, so that cap has to go up. The current US tv deal pays $200M a year, the new one will pay about $500M.

Another two years, they have the new deal with Vegas, new tv contract, expansion fee

    $90-$95M cap.

Expansion fees do not count toward HRR that determine the salary cap. The $500MM (1/2 a billion!) was what Vegas paid to join the club. Seattle has to pay more - $650MM. But that is divided 30 ways, (Vegas does not get a cut), and 1/30th goes directly into each owner's bank account and bypasses the payers completely.

The big thing coming down the pike is the legalized betting that the NHL will sanction. That has to be considered HRR (hockey related revenues) and that should pad the salary cap more than TV revenues.

They went in partnership last year with MGM with some gambling products but aren't involved directly in the gambling.

Four teams are now worth over $1B and the average team is worth $630M. It all makes sense when you see teams showing losses ot hardly a profit as the value keeps rising.

You can make the +/- sheet work out however you wish. Accounting, it may be the world's second oldest profession.

The NHL is going to sanction betting, and when they do they will profit enormously. ENORMOUSLY!

Between Seattle and Vegas, 30 owners each pocketed $38,333,333.33. And, the players got zilch. Well, the NHLPA does get a net increase of 46 NHL roster spots. Like it or lump it but don't touch my expansion cut.

In our case it all goes to the corporation, with the sabres they get turned into pegulabucks.
Time for CBA talks soon, the players want to go to the olympics and it looks like it's non-negotiable.

The Leafs are optimistic Marner will be signed and in camp when it opens, reports TSN.ca.

Leaf's general manager Kyle Dubas said the team has continued to have dialogue with Marner's agent as recently as last week. "I don't think we want anybody to miss any day or training camp, period," said Dubas. "So we'll continue to work towards that and remain hopeful." Marner is among several restricted free agents around the NHL that remain without a contract ten days before camps open.

Marner's contract is likely the one that every other deal is waiting on.

Marner could take it to the last minute and not lose a penny, Nylander was paid for his two month absence.
If he signs, he signs, either way I'm watching hockey. I'm not getting caught up in this like last year.

It's PTO-signing season. A couple that signed today that caught my attention are Drew Stafford (Wild) and Devante Smith-Pelly (Flames).
