It still doesn't mean that there won't be another lockout, why?

Because they can and they will and they always do.

Living in a world where I dont care about relationships with other NHL GMs.............. Id take a shot at Marner for sure.

    RFA compensation-
    $8,454,872-$10,568,589: 2 1sts , 2nd, 3rd
    Over $10,568,590+: 4 1sts

Throw a $10.5 per deal at him for 7 years. Force the Leafs hand. 2 1sts a 2nd and a 3rd, from a contending team its worth every penny.
Not trolling, I just think that highly of Mitch Marner. Maybe on Point and Raantanen as alternatives also. Laine has me confused.

It's all up to marner, his dad Paul is playing hardball.

Ive read that he wants something similar to Matthews and his $11.63 deal

He's only worth $9.5M, top tier wingers are at about 11% of the cap. He's a 20.goal.scorer and saw his assist total skyrocket playing on a line with a 47 goal scorer.
Matthews has more PPG than marner and is twice the goal scorer.

Agree that Matthews is the better player. MM more durable though, still AM deserves more but he signed in a different market.
Skinner getting 8 x $9 changes things. prices are fluid and going up more than the cap is.
this is why i throw 10.5 at Marner and make the Leafs match or take the future compensation.

If you put Marner on a line with a 30 goal scorer, I would project him as a 70 point player.

It's very possible that a team would present an offer sheet in the $10.5 to $11M range. Skinners deal is based on being a 40 goal scorer. I can't see Marner ever getting there, his shot just doesn't have the same pepper.

    Marner > Skinner

Marners a good kid, that's the key word, "kid".
I heard that Paul Marner is a jackass.

    most hockey dads are.

Marner being a kid is what adds value to a deal i think more than just his numbers. his ceiling is so high.

At the end of the day, the leafs are in a cap crunch, so a trade or comp would probably work out better overall. If they could solidify a soild D core while keeping Matthews and JT, maybe it's better.

I like the most recent comment by skinny a lot. I just don't think the Leafs FO see things that way.

I also think they've had shitty luck in the meddling dad department with Bill & Mitch's father thing. Although I still remember that dance you posted of Mitch's mom, and think he gets points for the hot-momma category.

Now, if the Sabres can extract P.K. from the Preds, then it becomes a real thing to talk about Risto getting moved.
That ain't going to happen, so I'll ask you to notice that I said "IF the Sabres can ... PK".

Sanheim signs two-year contract with Flyers
Defenseman gets $3.25 million annually, could have been RFA on July 1

Travis Sanheim signed a two-year, $6.5 million contract with the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday.

The contract has an average annual value of $3.25 million. The 23-year-old defenseman could have become a restricted free agent July 1.

"I'm obviously really excited," Sanheim said. "It's a big step in my career. I'm looking forward to another two years with the Flyers. I'm really excited with the way the team's moving forward and the moves we've made this summer."

Sanheim had NHL career-highs in goals (nine), assists (26) and points (35) in 82 games this season. Selected by the Flyers in the first round (No. 17) of the 2014 NHL Draft, he has 45 points (11 goals, 34 assists) in 131 regular-season games and one goal in four Stanley Cup Playoff games.

"We are very pleased with the progress Travis has made in his young career," Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher said. "He is a skilled, two-way defenseman with excellent size and mobility. He is a big part of our present and our future."

The Flyers acquired defenseman Matt Niskanen from the Washington Capitals on June 14 for defenseman Radko Gudas and acquired defenseman Justin Braun from the San Jose Sharks on June18 for a second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft (No. 41) and a third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. Bobrovsky would be an outstanding pick-up for the Wings... hell, any team as far as that goes.

Bob and Panarin arrived in South FL yesterday morning. Leaving from here for NY, later today. Speculation is that they met with Panthers while they were down here - it was confirmed they were meeting some time this week. Wouldn't make much sense to meet down here and then fly off without speaking with FL first... Both players have been open about the fact that they want to test the market as much as possible. Can't blame them. We'll see whose pitch was best, in the next week.

    Edit:

COL, NYR, and FLA will be top contenders for Panarin, based on early accounts.
NYI and FLA will be top contenders for Bob, based on early accounts.
