What do you know about the kid from UMass?

 

So around this area when you say UMass you're referring to UMass Amherst. It's the biggest of the bunch, UML is typically just Lowell. Just thought you'd want to know as a hockey guy Dan.

As for the kid, tough SOB that was a thorn in the side of every HE team. He kinda surprised right off the bat by scoring immediately. "Thorn in the side" probably doesn't do him justice, he was one of the leading scorers in the league. I'd think that you're right projecting him as a possible bottom 6 candidate in Buffalo.

Nikita Zaitsev has signed a seven-year extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The deal will have an annual average value of $4.5 million and will run through the 2023-24 season. Zaitsev averaged 22:01 of ice time per game during his rookie year and he collected 36 points in 82 games...

 

Excellent deal, will be a great to lock him up for 7 years, raise the cap!

 

I really like Zaitsev. I think that will be an easy contract to see a good return on.
I like that extension. He looked worse than I think he was because of his situational workload imo, in a couple years I think this will look like a steal.

 

A lot of upside to Zaitsev, he was playing hurt in the playoffs. His value will come to light when they add more strength to the D core.

 

as long as zaitsev doesn't bolt to the khl after 1 or 2 years this looks like a great deal.
