Tampa and dallas do hold an advantage if they offer the most money and it just came down to money.
If Hedman was playing for the kings there's no way that he would settle for $7.8M.
The only reason why stamkos and hedman are playing for that much is because it's florida.
They create cap space and are able to sign another player for under market value.

Florida has barkov, huberdeau and ekblad in good contracts. The only reason I say tallon is a failure is because he messed up on smith and marchesault. A good gm would've made it work.

 

Doughty is pocketing probably $1M more, but Hedman has better numbers. In LA, he would have to get at least $10M.

$11M after tax in california is about $1M more than what hedman makes in florida.

I wouldn't pay money for points only on the back end. Doughty is the best 2 way defenseman in the league.

 

Hedman was a +32 last season, karlsson was a -25, but his point a game average is much higher than both of them.

Karlsson will command $11M easy.

 

Timing is different on these deals and there could be factors we don’t know about, specifically reasons why Hedman took a discount. I’d assume taxes are part of the decision but I wouldn’t assume that’s all there is to it. Could be family related, the player might be hesitant to play in a different city or system, just wants to win with the team that took him #2, whatever it is I’m just saying there’s more to most of these stories than what we know.

 

Looks like Karlsson is looking to jump from Ottawa and I think skinny is right in saying $11 will be the starting point and teams can fight for his services....... and probably overpay for him.
