Fortunately, this draft's best position overall is D. However, even for the top three, and especially getting into the second tier of D in the first, teams are going to have to be patient with these prospects. Some could surprise us, but I do not expect any D help from this year's draft in the upcoming season.

Buffalo has 12 picks overall and we'll be sure to load up on some D.

The Florida Panthers would like to thank Dan, the city of Buffalo and eff pitt for winning the Stanley Cup. Our condolences to the Blackhawks and their friends lost in Orlando. The Panthers select Luke Kunin, RW Wisconsin. This mullet will grow long and prosper. Jaramir salutes this pick.

Edmonton's 32nd Overall pick is for sale. Looking to move down spots. A 2nd and 5th/6th Round pick would be perfect. Send me your requests.

No. We just have to suck it up that we got ahead. Anybody getting screwed by time changes would be wrong.

This may be the riskiest pick of the real draft, especially if he goes in the first. There is small and then there's small. Alex is so small that he does get swatted around; even though he has a tremendous scoring touch, I took him off the Sabres board. I just think that the NHL is moving toward speed AND physicality. While he has speed, I think that the opposite of the adage "you cannot coach size" applies here and you just cannot develop a guy that is this fragile.

i think it comes down to whether or not he is both exceptionally quick and bright. without both of those attributes you're in trouble being that small. Martin St. Louis and Johnny Gaudreau both have the wheels and brains. pretty rare combo for tiny.

wasn't it Debrincat that speared a Canadian kid in the 1st shift of this past WJC?

    Martin St.Louis
    Johnny Gaudreau
    Brian Gionta
    Cam Atkinson
Patrick kane (I know he is taller 5'11) but when he was drafted he was lighter than Alex DeBrincat
    Mats Zuccarello
    David Desharnais
    Tyler Ennis

To Name a few. You know players can gain muscle and weight too. He is small but I just named a lot of players at the same height and shorter that are/were producing. Some of them are almost the same weight.

Yes. That was dumb. Dumber yet, he did it right in front of the Canadian bench. To prove that he is intellectually challenged, those Canadians in Helsinki were very big boys.

In the game against Sweden he was taken out of the game on a hit. I swear that at the time I told the Swede sitting next to me, "he's faking it". I could just not believe that such a routine clean hit could knock a player out of a game. He was, as it turned out, truly hurt. But I became very concerned about his NHL potential at that moment.

I thought about the smurf in the early second, but see so much higher ceiling with a few others. I could be wrong, but I agree with dan's philosophy...you can't coach size.

Sure, there are a lot of small players in the NHL. The Canes have one of the smallest already with Gerbe. Truthfully, he does not belong on any list that also has Patty Kane - very few hockey players do. Otherwise, a lot of this list has players that also have great instincts or hockey IQ. I just do not see that in DeBrincat.

I called it a risky pick, not a bad pick. (I do think the Avs pick of Parsons was the first major reach of this mock, and that's as close to calling a pick a bad one as I will go.) If he adds a LOT of strength, and if he turns out to be a LOT smarter than he appears to be, he could turn out to be a better version of a Cam Atkinson, (a player I love). The chances of that are, IMO, not very high and I don't want the Sabres to take him - unless he fell to the 3rd which he won't.
