Definitely wanted to go D. Most of the mock drafts have Detroit targeting a Center. I thought D was more important.

 

Alfred with the Flyers then Skinny with the Isles. I have the list for the following 3 picks assuming they aren't taken.

It's practically a trade cancellation from the Flames-Canes part of the 3-way trade but we'll allow it. Tsk tsk. Wonder who he suddenly wanted to get back into the 1st for.

 

Question - How does everyone feel about the talent pool in this draft?

I'm trying to decide which reason I am supremely optimistic about a lot of these players.

1. There is a definite high end potential for most, if not all, of what will be selected in the first round.

2. Researching for this mock just made me pay attention more, leading me to overvalue some of these kids.

 

It's considered high through almost 2 rounds. But some of reason #2 for sure. lol

 

Let me respond this way: I do not think the top end of this class comes remotely close to matching last year's draft. There were prospects taken in the middle/late 2nd in 2015 that would be off in the 1st this year. But, on a watered down basis this class runs pretty deep. The number of picks that eventually make the NHL declines on a very predictable basis through the draft, and, for example, statistically about 25% of 3rd rounders eventually skate in the NHL. I think that number will be higher than that for this class.

However, in the inevitable "2016 Draft Do-over" article ten years from now, there may a lot of teams that are going to be deemed dolts for passing over some guy taken in the middle rounds for a disappointing player taken in the first. In other words, I think it's going prove to be a frustrating draft for a lot of teams.

This class is one where a team with a lot of picks is likely to do a nice job of stoking their pipeline. But, these prospects are more likely to prove to be role players than stars. Outside the top 8-10 picks, I do not expect many future stars from this draft class.

Otherwise, BUF is interested in trading up if he's interested in ratcheting this up to a blockbuster.

I have to say that Day 1 was a resounding success (and not just for the Yotes ). I hope tomorrow goes just as well... and that we even get a few more picks in tonight.

Joe, you had a no-brainer with your #2 for the Jets, but this McAvoy pick is who I was interested in getting back into the first to get for the Sabres.

So far, you're nailing this draft for the Yotes & Jets.

 

I was 99% certain that was the case since you missed out on D early and he was slipping a bit. I was hoping for McAvoy. So much that I had no real Plan B drawn up. lol.
