I agree overall, especially in the top 50. The top 2 or 3 rounds should be BPA in my opinion. I do think there has to be concerns about the system with the later picks. Sometimes competition for TOI is better for development and evaluation so I'm not against teams grabbing a player at certain positions in late round 4 or later. If a team is light at LW or D 2 years out, the difference is so slight with later picks that I think position should be taken into consideration because of the contract slot limits for organizations.
well the Flyers have a decent goalie crop in the minors and no one else took Hart bf Philly did, so was it too early ? He's only 6'1 so I hope he's fast as hell and has quick reflexes. At 6'1, he could be the next Pelle Lindbergh of a smaller goalie with great reflexes and abilities. dan k - you changed my mind. shocking i know. to get 2 solid guys at #22 and #36 is a damn good draft for starters, not counting the other picks. Right before the Flyers picked at #22 the announcers were talking about Rubtsov and the 1 guy said "whoever takes him is getting a really good player and that he probably fell due to the doping case and not his abilities." Then the Flyers took him. Hope it all works out.
Don't worry Cat, those picks could still bust From a value and talent standpoint, I would be optimistic. At the very least, the approach was sound.
cat, chant "we're doomed gulliver." that must of been glum and not glee (lilliputian). it was a very old cartoon series.
cbs give the hocks a A+++ for signing brian campbell. the 37 year old d-man is still a consistent player, but the mileage does not warrant an A++++++++. laughing hard at this opinion.
Soupy is 37, but he did not miss a single game in five years in FL. He remains an extremely good player and an exceptional influence on his teammates. He deserves a $4.5-5.5MM contract based on comparables. Chicago got him for half of that. I think it may be the best overall signing this FA season. I give the Hawks an AAA rating, (which, for those that do not know, is the highest possible).
I now expect that Soupy will assist Kaner on the SC clinching goal next June. I also think that Pat Kane will buy a nice, but non-ostentatious home in a western suburb of Chicago. Kaner will then disavow Buffalo forever. Brian will convert to Merican and after retiring from the NHL in 2021 he will run for and win the governorship of Illinois. His reform efforts will be studied 100 years from now and will be given credit for the period of remarkable prosperity and honest government in Illinois.
http://www.sabresprospects.com/2016/10/cliff-pu-and-sabres-bet-on-progress.html I remembered this post, and boy has our boy Pu make it look like I knew what I was talking about. (Remember, I am Irish, and good luck follows me like a cute puppy.) Still, it did not take too much thinking to expect Cliff to pot the puck with alacrity after being free of all those great players ahead of him on that stacked London team. Add his elite speed and I think he's going to be one of "WTF, how'd he fall to the 3rd!" players. Looking ahead, I think 2017 may be a good year for savvy GM's to traffic first round picks.
