I'm with you on Robinson Stopper..I see a staple at 3/4 DE for 8-10 years. I believe he is one of the top talents in this draft based on tape. I don't see him very highly ranked and I can't figure that one out. Is there off Field issues I haven't heard about?
Urban Meyer just told Rich Eisen at the combine that "today is the day that Cardale Jones vaults up the draft boards"....Urban mentioned that several NFL GM's have told him that they expect that to happen....
btw, Christian Hackenberg looks awful at the combine this morning...He is REALLY struggling to complete passes, and there aren't any defenders on the field.
Lets face it, no one knows what the Browns will do with their picks. It wouldn't surprise me if they trade out of the 2nd pick for more picks this year and next. I know we need a future QB but have for 15 years now so who knows. I'm going to throw in Cousins with Osweiler as 2 FA QB's I would take a good hard look at if I were the Browns. I don't see a clear cut franchise QB in this draft to take at #2. Both of those guy's have gotten their feet wet in the NFL and won't have to learn the speed or schemes of the defenses. Also, both are younger than 26 so they are young enough to learn and grow with this team. McCown can help with that. I think someone today said that Jeffery signed with the Bears. I haven't looked at that yet. So if we sign Cousins or Osweiler then at #2 we could take Treadwell, Bosa or Tunsil. Tunsil if Schwartz walks. All of these players would start here. Change for this organization means signing and drafting players that would start on this 3 win football team.
Not that it really matters, but here are the QBs lined up according to rating from the NFL Combine.. Is what it is...I'm still stuck on who is even worth drafting... (edit BTW these were the order according to Combine rating, which I didn't list. The rating listed is their career QB rating...which I'm sure most of you figured out.
I know its not an end all b all, but how did Goff look vs Stanford? How did Prescott look vs Bama and Georgia? How did Cook look vs Ohio St and Mich? Im just trying 2 see how they performed vs pretty good defenses...mayb get a better read on some of these guys
Not sure how this helps totally either...although it is a piece of the puzzle. I'll try to look at that later.. BTW, how did Manziel look against Alabama? How did Cardale Jones look against Alabama and Michigan State?
Manziel looked great and I still dont think talent is the issue w him...he can succeed in the NFL if he gets the help he needs(rehab)....Jones wasnt very good vs Bama...18/35 w 1 TD and 1 INT...his 2 deepest throws of the game werent very accurate and Smith had 2 make an easy catch a difficult one and the other one the DB fell down
You gotta love all these NFL guru ass clowns. Yahoo sports reported yesterday that the Browns and Texans were interested in trading for Colin Kaepernick. Today both teams stated they were NOT interested in Kaepernick through CBS sports.
I did hear Wentz and Hogan look good. Both have good size and speed. I don't know how much it helped Hogan playing with McCafferey but I was impressed with this kid. McCafferey to me was the best player on offense I seen all year. I haven't seen Wentz play same with Paxton. I have seen Geoff,Cook,Hackenberg and Hogan. Out of this group I like Hogan the most. Throwing to McCafferey and his speed should help Hogan in adjusting to the NFL game.
so here are my points: 1. Obviously only take Jack if his knee checks out at 100%. You cant just sit and spin the tire on 'what if' because its football and anyone could have the leg rolled up on at any time. 2. Yes Miller is changing positions, however, this is roughly the area I have seen him going on all mock drafts (usually a hair earlier), and after a great week (by most accounts) at the Senior Bowl and seeing how our new coach likes to use former QBs who are athletes, Miller seemed to make too much sense at that spot. Lee would be a good pickup too, I'm not being a homer, its just the value. 3. Bosa may be great, but as has been discussed on other threads, something just doesn't sit well with me about him. He seems to take plays off, and that's a bad habbit to have and an even tougher one to break. 4. Cardale at 65 because if you're thinking about taking Wentz at 2 because of his ceiling I argue that taking a player 63 spots later who has a pretty damn high ceiling himself is called value, and its the approach I see this FO possibly taking. Looping my 1st point in, last year they took an injured guy with a dozen picks left in the draft, Ifo, and he had a 1-2 rd grade pre injury. It just made sense to take the chance on him bc of the value, if he doesn't come back it doesn't matter, most 7s don't amount to anything and you're lucky when you hit on them. 5. On Oakman, ill admit he's probably more a "first off the bus" guy than anything. He has potential that the staff may be able to work with. Horton did have us excited about Mingo in his first year. To be honest though, I do not know a lot of players past the top 2-3 rounds, I scanned some mocks to see who was being picked between the mid 3rd and 4th and slapped a name in there.
Just out of curiosity, who watched the combine Saturday with the QBs/WRs? I know I am harping on this subject... Jared Goff, for the most part got pretty good reviews from the combine. What I have heard is that he didn't do anything to cost him his high pick status. However, if any of you watched him throw. He had some balls float on him and he also missed in front on a couple. I know most of you think this hand size thing isn't important at all..but a grip issue usually shows up in the form of floating balls...floating balls can be several other issues as well, but that is one of the main tells with grip issues. I can't see anything else that would have caused it. I DVRd it and watched him a few times, footwork was not a problem, despite working 98% out of the shot gun, he seemed to have his 3, 5 and 7 steps down pretty good. I didn't see any issues with his arm motion or release, yet he had some balls float a bit. I think this hand size thing is a bigger issue than any of you do...I am worried about it when the temp drops below 35?. I thought Wentz did a fine job, best of the combine, and while I am not sold on a QB at #2, none of the next tier QBs impressed me enough to think we can wait until later to take one. I was just wanting anyone else thoughts that sat down and watched this past weekend?
I'm not seeing the same things that you are with Goff but as you and I have discussed prior we each tend to see things within our own viewpoint. We've discussed quarterbacks quite a bit over the past couple of seasons and I don't think we have agreed much on the subject. Goff showed the ability to grip it and rip it at the combine, pretty much the same as what he shows on game day. I thought he displayed better velocity and a much quicker release than Wentz. I understand the preference for Carson but I still have not seen a reason for him to overtake Goff as the top quarterback taken in this draft.
To be honest . . . I rarely watch the NFL Combine. IMO, the most important aspect of this event isn't televised (the team interviews). Regarding hand size. Again, IMO, you are making way too big of a deal out of this. It's kind of like throwing Heidi Klum out of your bed because you discover she has a filling in one of her molars.
It isn't just me Lym...it is shown in order to get a real good grip on an NFL size football, it takes 9 1/8 inches of grip to do so...that is the threshold the NFL looks for. Anything below 9 1/8 (this is according to reports from NFL coaches) and you are fighting the grip. It IS RELEVANT, I am not making this up. The more over that 9 1/8 threshold, the easier the grip becomes. With cold, comes numbness and without that type of grip, it certainly makes it even more pronounced. If YOU go outside in the winter and grab a shovel without winter gloves on, does your hand grip it as easily as it does in the summer? Of course not, the fingers tighten up in cold weather making it more pronounced. I don't know why you are all making me out to sound crazy when talking about this. To me this is a legitimate concern playing in Cleveland. It isn't all about fumbles, although Goff had a lot of fumbles even in the California sunshine, it is about floating balls and defenses keying on that for turnovers. I sincerely see Goff with a lot of INTs if he ends up in a cold weather city that plays outdoors. (edit As for the Heidi Klum comparison, it is more like if she had a vagina, mouth and hands that were too small to accept my manhood...she's beautiful and still fun to look at, but getting anything more than the visual does you little good in bed.
Didn't intend to make you out as being crazy. (And from what's been posted so far, I'm the only one who has mentioned your latest infatuation. So it's far from "all of you".) I simply don't share your belief that one 8th of an inch - roughly the thickness of a silver dollar - is that big of a deal.
I know Tim also spoke against the idea, and I thought Sam did, but maybe not.. It isn't about the 1/8", it's about the lowest end of the spectrum they deem a safe bet there will be less issues. They have said it is 9 1/8, he is below the spectrum...it isn't about the 1/8" below the lowest, it's in comparison to other similar QBs available and the fact they (He) doesn't have this issue. If the decision is down to Goff and Wentz, I don't know many people who are still arguing Goff has a higher ceiling than Wentz. Most say Wentz has the higher ceiling, then throw in the fact Goff is below the lowest end of the spectrum and Wentz is 7/8" above the spectrum bottom. It is simply one more reason to move the arrow towards Wentz. I am still trying to figure out why Goff is considered more NFL ready, btw...Can someone explain that one to me? As far as football IQ, both are said to be at the top of the class. Advantage = TIE Both have NFL height, I would say Wentz has a better NFL build, as Goff is on the thin side. Advantage - Wentz Game speed, I don't think anyone will argue that the Pac-12 is not faster than any FCS Conference. Although, Wentz had an advantage Advantage - Goff Competition. On the surface, one would think again, Pac-12 > FCS...However, Wentz NDSU team has gone through the playoffs (4 games), including the FCS Championship, 5 years in a row. That means the top teams in the entire FCS Division. I can point to many of these FCS schools beating FBS schools in recent years, including NDSU beating B1G Minnesota, that would show that these FCS schools could very well be close (if not better) to some of the lower end Pac-12 schools. Cal is not beating the upper echelon schools like Stanford, Oregon, etc...In fact in Goff's 3 years, his team won in-conference games of; 2013 0-9, 2014 3-6, 2015 4-5... Advantage - TIE Scheme, this one is pretty easy, Goff was in a spread offense 99% of his career. Wentz played in a Pro Style offense. Advantage - Wentz Please add some other things we can actually compare for the sake of readiness and I will add it in, but right now Wentz - 2 Goff - 1 Push - 2 I'm really not sure why they are saying Goff is by far the most NFL ready QB in this draft...It isn't like he has run the SEC gauntlet during his college career.
You have backed your opinion on hand size with understandable reasoning but I disagree with it being a factor in this situation. As for the comparisons and why Goff is more NFL ready: Quickness of release Accuracy (all three levels) Progressions Pocket Awareness Anticipation Touch These are all characteristics that separate good college quarterbacks from NFL QBs. Being able to progress through reads, stay aware of the pass rush, anticipate the opening and get rid of the ball quickly, accurately and with the right amount of touch are key traits at the pro level. Right now Goff is ahead of Wentz in all of those categories. That's not to say that Carson cannot or will not develop those abilities, but as of right now Goff is more capable in these areas and therefore more 'NFL ready'.
