Technically . . . yes. And, technically, he would be considered an injury replacement evidenced by the fact that he was released by the Steelers when Ben healed. But, you're the one who called him a journeyman backup. Not me. No, you don't get it at all. I am not "in love" with Brian Hoyer nor do I "hate" Johnny Manziel (however, I am guilty of hating the flying circus hype that comes with him). I merely think that Manziel needs to learn how to be a starting NFL QB and while he's doing just that Brian Hoyer is more than capable of holding down the fort. So, you're saying Weeden and Campbell didn't deserve to be cut?
IMHO . . . I would only entertain trading back up INTO the 2nd round (without sacrificing our 3rd rd pick left). Keep pick #35 and then add another 2nd rounder.
5 years, 18 games and 4 starts is -- by the very definition -- journeyman backup status. So you don't want a QB competition? You just want to sit the rookie on the bench, even if he's a better option for the Browns to start? Sure sounds like some kind of grudge to me... Where did I say that? I said Hoyer didn't deserve to be named the starter because he was the only guy left on the roster.
Keep in mind that Jimmy Haslam and the Browns F/O thinks that the Seattle Seahawks are the model franchise right now. To keep pace they've already added another terrific cornerback to an already solid defensive unit. They got their mobile, fiery leader at the QB position. Now all they really need is the ground game. I think RB is really an option here, although I wouldn't consider it top need.
SAS, we need to get 2gethr for a drink 1 day....we agree on just bout all things so it wuld b fun...lol
I'm actually quite pleasant and insightful. Not my fault you get pissy when I call you out on your agenda of trying to slight Manziel with one hand and build up Hoyer with the other. In the real world, anyone else would absolutely consider Hoyer a backup and Manziel a breath of fresh air. Obviously our F/O agrees with me. Doesn't mean you have to agree with any of us... just try to knock off the fussing.
I would rather have Johnny Football than both Weeden and Campbell on the roster. Thats what drafts are for. To improve your team. Speaking of improving the team who do you guys want next eith this pick. WR or Guard. Those are my 2 options. It will be hard passing on Yankey,Jackson,Lee,Mathews I know that. Or the WR from Indiana. The Browns need to keep this thing rolling. Look at the excitement of Johnny already brought to this fan base. 2,000 season tickets already sold. Makes me wonder what it will take to sign him?
Problem is Lym, most teams don't want to drop out of a round when trading down, let alone drop TWO rounds...Your scenarios would be ideal, for the Browns, but not for any team you are asking to trade with. Realistically it would take 4 fourth round picks to move into the second without using that 3rd rounder...Even moving up from #71, that first 4th rounder is only going to get you to the lower part of the 2nd round..
Do any of you see the drafting of Gilbert as possibly paving the way for the Browns letting Joe Haden walk? I only ask because Sherman just got a mega-contract, and I think Joe Haden is a better CB (and scheduled to be a FA in 2015). I also believe that $14-15M/year is too much. Do you guys think the Browns will be willing to pony up that kind of scratch for Haden?
& with the 35th pick the Cleveland Browns take... Marqise Lee | WR, Southern California My bad...they put up the wrong pick first. Joel Bitonio | OG, Nevada
Don't worry about it Cap'n. They're gonna appeal and try to base it off what Irsay gets for his possession charges. *JOKINGLY*
