I agree that ILB is a bigger need than WR, but not OG. We're moving to a zone-block system that the Shannahans have perfected. You can find a zone blocking guard that has limited responsibilities in the later rounds. I cannot focus to look it up (too much Johnny on the mind) but I would hazard a guess either Shannahan found talent on the interior in the late, late rounds. ILB I buy, as I said, but I see several WRs with more talent than even the best inside linebackers out there. Marquise Lee falling into R2? I would not have guessed that. I would go him or Robinson with that pick and never look back. Man. Just imagine Johnny Cleveland throwing to Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, Marquise Lee, Andrew Hawkins and (very rarely) handing off to Ben Tate? I gotta stop thinking about it... I need a cigarette. :[
Irish said.... "n all seriousness though, after taking Gilbert I actually wanted to get Mosely to complete this defense...great pick up there. I was shocked the Steelers didn't take him. That kid belongs in the AFC North, just wish it was in orange with stripes on the helmet." So you wanted Cincy to have him?
Pettine That's a valid point. It wasn't Hoyer's fault that Weeden and Campbell were so horrific. Yep . . . a career backup (to Tom Brady and [briefly] Ben Roethlisberger).
Lyman, I think Su'-Filo is definately in play at 35....As is Bitonio.....Lee.....Hyde...Amaro? Wish I knew. There are just so many talented players still on the board it's just anybodies guess....can't wait to find out.
I would certainly expect Manziel to be the starter by season's end unless Hoyer gets on a roll early in the season. However, throwing Manziel into the fire of that early schedule is probably not a good idea. In the first 5 games, you have the Steelers twice, the Ravens and the Saints, all of whom have good enough defense's to give Manziel fits. Let him take some time to learn, let Hoyer show what he can do against some tough defenses early on and if he fails, bring Manziel in to save the day when the schedule lightens up a bit in week 7.
WOAH DUDE, i had your back In all seriousness, my thoughts are quite simple on the matter, i think you should have taken watkins but then again an extra first for 5 spots is godly. So i cant fault that. Your D gets a lot better, and im not entirely sure how you deal with those cb's, gilbers ceiling is very high and haden is better than sherman for me. now on to manziel, it hink he could be a success but i think he is a little frail and his playstyle lends itself to be destroyed in our division but again thats just my risk assessment here, as a pure passer and such, his accuracy and feet are fine, and he needs to be more composed but he is coming in to a team that has arguably a top 5 O line and a vetran C to guide him so he should get a lot of time- couple that with the beast that is gordon and jordan and i think he has all the tools he needs to succeed, not to say he will or not but lets see, i really wanted you guys to take bridgewater there as i think he is a better all round qb. but after one day, you cant hate on that draft. you should be a lot stronger this year with your O clicking more and your D looking downright scary. if you get lee in the second you may aswell call upthe missus because you should be able to go all night. 2k
Ill say that Evans will be right up in that Elite list and Watkins will be better than all but Calvin and potentially gordon and Julio- i am a huge jones fan but lets see how he recovers from this injury. 2k
Definitely in the minority here, but Im not on board at all with the Manziel pick. I smell another Tebow/Quinn/Weeden/Grossman/Leaf etc in the making... & the media circus around him - like that with Tebow - is gonna be nothing but a huge distraction. Hoyers the man & Im sticking to my opinion - at least til/if proven wrong.
+1 Can Manziel be coached ? can he stay in the pocket all 5-11 of him and make his reads ? or will he take off because he cant see downfield ? can they keep his attitude in check ? I didn't like the pick . that's no secret .I have no choice but to get onboard with him .I could learn to like him if he acts right and plays right . a 5-11 QB really ? don't give me the Russell Wilson stats either . he is an exception with a first class attitude . Hoyer starts week 1 ...............
I only say Guard because of the "Draft Value Police". *PARDON* To get a 1st round talent in the 2nd round is better "value" than a 2nd round talent in the 2nd round.
Look at the "bigger" picture, Bluez. He will be playing in cleats. That should make him at least 6'0"
To expand on my wish list . . . 2nd round Guards are good. DeCastro took out Pouncey, didn't he? *SCRATCH*
So what are we still in need of? I know OG, LB, WR. Anybody (pokes Irish in the ribs) have any ideas who to take with our next couple picks to address our needs?
do those come in heels I saw the interview last night with primetime Sanders ..when Sanders towers over a QB sumptyhing is wrong
He has every single trait you want in a wide receiver. I know he's not 6'5" but he plays like it. He takes up space like Boldin does. Has speed, phenomenal hands, cuts on a dime, is tough as nails. Best in the NFL in two years.
Haha, had a bit of a hangover...that was supposed to say just wish it was in orange without stripes on the helmet... To clarify, I really felt Manziel was out of reach when we passed on him at #9(8)...When he came back into reach, I obviously am ecstatic how it worked out.
