They can pretty easily make the cap room. I can’t remember the details, but I watched a podcast the other day and they broke it down. If they don’t trade for him, it won’t be because of cap space. I have a feeling the Falcons are going to want too much back in draft capital.
Reports that I read last night are that the Browns are shifting towards Joe Flacco.... The news feed is so boring between the end of the first week of free agency and two weeks before the draft... But, it is QB news, so I guess it's relevant for this thread.
Perfectly relevant. Flacco back in Cleveland makes all the sense in the world. IMO, It would be optimal.
Source: Raiders, QB Geno Smith reach two-year, $75M extension HENDERSON, Nev. -- The Las Vegas Raiders and new quarterback Geno Smith have agreed to a two-year, $75 million extension, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The contract has incentives that could push the total to $85.5 million and includes $66.5 million in guaranteed money, the source said. Smith, 34, is now contractually tied to Las Vegas through the 2027 season. He had one year and $31 million left on the $75 million contract he signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2023. ESPN
Quarterback Trey Lance reached agreement on a one-year deal worth up to $6.2 million with the Los Angeles Chargers, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday. Lance and Taylor Heinicke are now the backups behind Chargers starter Justin Herbert. ESPN
Joe Flacco is heading back to Cleveland. Flacco’s agent Joe Linta told ESPN that the quarterback has agreed to a one-year deal with the Browns. It is a $4 million deal for Flacco, although he can make up to $13 million through incentives that are included in the deal. Flacco signed with the Browns during the 2023 season and was named the NFL’s comeback player of the year after winning four of five starts to guide the team into the playoffs. Flacco moved on to the Colts last year, but did not enjoy the same kind of success when he was elevated to the starting lineup in place of Anthony Richardson. The Browns also have Kenny Pickett on hand while Deshaun Watson recovers from a torn Achilles and they’ve been mentioned as a potential draft destination for a quarterback. Flacco’s arrival probably doesn’t rule that out, but it doesn’t appear to be the direction the team is planning to take with the second overall selection. Makes a better chance of the Saints drafting Sanders and could it be Aaron Rodgers to the rescue, if its serious and season threatening?
Wasn't expecting much out of the Saints this year anyway. At least Sanders could make it interesting. Don't even bring up Rodgers!!!!!
Aaron Rodgers says he has no deadlines, with the Steelers or any other team During his silence-shattering appearance on Thursday with Pat McAfee, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said plenty of things. Some old (he loves to re-assault deceased equines), some new. Along the way, Rodgers acknowledged that he has spoken with a few teams. While he declined to provide the full list, it was clear Rodgers has talked to a trio of teams — the Giants, Vikings, and Steelers. And while he insists that there were false narratives about some of the teams he was linked to (for a guy who claims to ignore anything about him, he seems to know everything that’s said), those are the three teams to which he has been most clearly linked. Rodger said he spoke to Giants coach Brian Daboll, calling him a “beautiful football mind.” He said he has spoken to Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell, an old friend. And Rodgers confirmed (even though confirmation wasn’t needed) that he visited the Steelers. Rodgers said he "[t]ried to do that as quietly as possible.” He said he flew into a different airport, rented a Malibu, and drove it to the team facility. “Somebody in the building must have said something,” Rodgers said. (Yes, they did. They told Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and off it went.) Rodgers said he was highly impressed by coach Mike Tomlin. Rodgers also met with G.M. Omar Khan, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and quarterbacks coach Tom Arth during his day in Pittsburgh. “I wanted to see what it was like there, see the facility,” Rodgers said, adding he wanted a “snippet” and a “glimpse” of what it would be like. Rodgers said there’s no deadline with the Steelers. “If you need to do something, by all means [do it],” Rodgers told the Steelers. “I am trying to be open to everything and not specifically attached to anything when it comes to this decision,” he said. “I’m not holding anybody hostage.” He added that he’s been “up front” from the start, and that he’s “going through a lot in my personal life that has to take precedent at this point.” He said that, when he signs with a team, it “has to be an all-in type commitment” and that he’s not ready to do it just yet. Through it all, Rodgers flashed periodic irritation about the speculation that has emerged. “I don’t have sources,” Rodgers said near the end of the segment. “I don’t have people that are out there pushing narratives. I speak for myself. And it’s been nice to be quiet for the last few months. It’s funny how in that time period how the shit narrative goes fucking crazy, right? When I haven’t said a fucking word. So there’s nothing to say. I just laid out where I’m at. There’s nothing else to report. There’s no other reason to be continuing to talk about me at this point. So time to turn the page, all those people that have made a lot of money slandering my name. You know, apologize for COVID, say your vax status, and keep it moving.” in part; PFT
Aaron also said this - He appeared on Thursday’s edition of The Pat McAfee Show, at the apparent urging of his sister. After complaining (as he usually does) about the “bullshit” out there, he said he has told teams he would play, if he does, for only $10 million.
Man this guy is pest must think the world revolves around him i don't get trying to grab the Steelers by the short hairs and he won't leave the Minnesota Vikings alone....the Giants need a qb sign with them and go away
In my opinion, Teams should move on from Aaron Rodgers. He's toast. I think we have seen the last of him on the field. In todays game, he doesnt fit for any team needing an NFL QB, the times have past him buy.
He also mentioned multiple times that he has personal things going on his life right now that are more important than football. Who in their right mind is going to pay this guy $10M? Not that football should be the only thing in your life, but don’t parade around that you basically don’t give a shit until you do and I’ll let you know when that is.
He probably knows it. He'll over promise and then under deliver. He just loves to pretend that he hates the attention. This is such a borderline personality trait. I'd be happy if the Steelers gave up on him.
I thought he played pretty good football the 2nd half of the season. I think this is more about the offer the Steelers made. He wants more and the Steelers are likely not going to budge. They have a cash flow budget and TJ needs extended this summer.
If he only requires $10M, I don’t think that cash was the problem.. this is a diva problem. The main reason Omar should run for the hills.
"knowledge of the situation" Love February and March.. always fun to guess which articles are just made up out there.
